Yeah, I was pretty psyched! It was at 6:30 AM this morning, so I called my wife (she was already on the bus to work) and even she knew it was a big deal. She has family in Chapel Hill, too. Anyway, they had openings for Nov 27th and on, so they must still be in the middle of their interview cycle. (Many on the schools I'm scheduled at right now are pushed back into Jan/Feb)

Hey all! Im a first time interview taker, and have my applications all in, but I still havent gotten a single interview yet! Im really really starting to panic! Anyone else in the same situation? any advice?

Depends on when you are complete at the schools and your stats.
 
first time MCAT takers sorry! My MCAT was a 31, and Gpa around a 3.9 with lots of ECs and a double major.applications were in a while ago, but not as early as I would have liked...

Agreed. I think that many schools (Penn State! Boston U!) haven't even made it all the way through their stacks yet. Other schools (Duke, Penn) haven't accepted anybody yet. In reality, it DOES depend on when you were complete and what your stats are.

If you just have mediocre stats and were complete very late, you may find that the schools have already found their limit of mediocre candidates to interview. (Particularly this cycle....complete banner year for number of applicants)

However, if you are an outstanding statistical applicant (unfortunately by that I mean MCAT/GPA.) you may be able to bump one of those aforementioned mediocre students out of their potential interview slot.

That's my take on the situation, anyway...

Great GPA, average MCAT....hopefully those will be statistically good enough for them to actually look at your EC's and decide they want to meet YOU more than they want to meet a mediocre applicant that was complete way before you.

How broadly did you apply?

PS- I feel you on the double major (Econ/Bio) but I've come to the conclusion it isn't that big of a deal..

I got an email today from the admissions office asking me to confirm that I would indeed take biochemistry. When I called them back to tell them I was registered to start in January, but was thinking of switching to start in June, she told me that was fine. Then she said to expect an email requesting a phone screen.

I know, I know, I haven't technically received it.....but I was too excited not to add myself here! Then again, if I don't ever get it, it will hurt pretty bad to have to remove myself....

I got an email today from the admissions office asking me to confirm that I would indeed take biochemistry. When I called them back to tell them I was registered to start in January, but was thinking of switching to start in June, she told me that was fine. Then she said to expect an email requesting a phone screen.

I know, I know, I haven't technically received it.....but I was too excited not to add myself here! Then again, if I don't ever get it, it will hurt pretty bad to have to remove myself...

That is a quick turnaround! I think I got the complete e-mail from USF a few days ago so hopefully I'll hear back soon. 😀

I e-mailed Dr. Hinkley at Miami to ask about my status since I submitted everything over a week earlier. Turned out my LORs were there (electronically) and they thought they never arrived so now I'm complete.

did they email you to let you know? I called up and I was told I am complete, but havent received an email. I am worried I am not getting their emails...

Agreed. I think that many schools (Penn State! Boston U!) haven't even made it all the way through their stacks yet. Other schools (Duke, Penn) haven't accepted anybody yet. In reality, it DOES depend on when you were complete and what your stats are.

If you just have mediocre stats and were complete very late, you may find that the schools have already found their limit of mediocre candidates to interview. (Particularly this cycle....complete banner year for number of applicants)

However, if you are an outstanding statistical applicant (unfortunately by that I mean MCAT/GPA.) you may be able to bump one of those aforementioned mediocre students out of their potential interview slot.

That sounds accurate to me, as well. The reality is, irrespective of your completion date, you will be bumped or delayed if higher statistical applicants apply. This is relatively obvious if you have friends applying with higher scores than you that also apply later than you to a given school.

I never received a generic e-mail saying I was complete. I tried calling them at the time, but no one picked up so I e-mailed them (Dr. Hinkley replied himself). After a few more e-mails with him, Dr. Hinkley told me directly in the e-mail that my file was complete and it would be going to committee review soon. It sounds like you are complete so I wouldn't really worry.

I have two interviews setup already (columbia and Einstein). I would like an interview at NYMC though. Anybody have one? I heard the committee meets once a month, anybody know anything about it?

I called Wake Forest this morning to tell them that I was going to be "in the area" (I didn't mention that it was for an interview at Duke!) on the 30th November. The lady told me that my application had been reviewed and that I had been "placed in the top applicant pool, so they would be delighted to offer me an interview."

BTW- I'm not the first one on the board that has been offered and interview on-the-spot when calling...so it might be worth a try! (instigata, didn't we submit our WF secondaries about the same time???_

I called Wake Forest this morning to tell them that I was going to be "in the area" (I didn't mention that it was for an interview at Duke!) on the 30th November. The lady told me that my application had been reviewed and that I had been "placed in the top applicant pool, so they would be delighted to offer me an interview."

BTW- I'm not the first one on the board that has been offered and interview on-the-spot when calling...so it might be worth a try! (instigata, didn't we submit our WF secondaries about the same time???_

I was complete as soon as August MCAT scores came out (submitted secondary 9/18 and received an email saying I was complete other than MCAT scores 9/28). Rejection letter was dated 11/10 with a 11/14 postmark (got it yesterday). So, four weeks from August MCAT which I guess isn't so quick - just seems that way in this process.

Good luck Noeljan. If GWU's what you want, I hope they get to your app soon and approve it with flying colors! :luck:

i'm a first time august mcatter and have interview invites at Einstein and NYMC but not at Columbia. It's so weird that you have an interview at Columbia but not at NYMC! So I actually got my interview at NYMC by contacting them and letting them know that I would be in the NYC area around the time that I am interviewing at Einstein, and they got back to me within a week with an invite. Maybe you could try that? good luck🙂
