*** The Official Buffalo Class of 2019 Interview/Acceptance Thread ***

Can someone explain to me what a case interview is whatever it's called?

You sit down with Dr. Brown (dean of admissions) and discuss an ethics case scenario with him. You pretty much just say why you feel X action by a dentist is right/wrong, and hope he agrees with you.

Wow that sounds tough!

It's really not, in most cases. Most cases I've heard have a pretty obvious breach of ethics, and as long as you provide decent points Dr. Brown will talk as much, if not more than you do. You just don't want him to disagree with you, which isn't unheard of... Probably due to stupid responses though.

For anyone who's interviewed here this year, feel free to correct me, but I don't think Dr. Brown is sitting down one on one with applicants anymore like he has in previous years. They've revamped the whole interview process; in the past we went through the case study with Dr. Brown, and a panel interview (often with one or two faculty and a student). This year, I believe you go through a couple (2 or 3?) one on one interviews with different faculty and students. I know @Faux was here recently - is this how it went down? Do they still make you do the writing sample?

I'd agree with what the 'gloo said, though - Dr. Brown is one of the friendliest, most welcoming professors in the school and wants you to feel comfortable. Chatting with him was the best part of the interview. If they do still make you do this, just be honest and fair with your opinion (present both sides of the issue, then deliver your opinion with some justification). I think you'll find it's one of the easiest parts of the day.

I received an email on Aug 9th saying that they were reviewing my application. Since then I have not heard anything and I'm getting worried. How long was your guys' reviewing process?

Dr Brown just came by and said hi. But yeah, you're correct on everything else. And yes, you do write a small writing sample, very simple and to the point.

writing sample
video
tour
lunch
interviews

Oh, sorry about that! Didn't know they removed that aspect of the interview. That's a shame though... Chatting with Dr. Brown was my favorite part, and really helped me relax before the actual interview itself.

Just wondering if any Canadian students have received interview invites to UB?

When I did my early assurance interview last summer Dr. Brown was part of the interview process for the case study question. However, there was another woman doctor who was also a type of dean (I can't remember her name) who I did my case study question with and she was very nice. Dr. Brown also spoke to us after the video. Again, I am not sure if this was different because it was an early assurance interview, but the process sounds exactly the same as @Faux said in the same order.

Gotcha. Dr. Flash, maybe? She's the executive director of student and academic affairs, also very friendly.

That does sound very familiar now that you mention it! It was probably her. It's a shame if Dr. Brown isn't a part of the process anymore though because he was awesome.

They still have 4 pre-dec interview days open and they interview +20 students. I wouldn't worry yet.

Anyone interviewing on 10/31 want to meet up the day prior 10/30? I fly in Buffalo in the morning prior.

anyone interviewing this Tuesday and going to be at the airport?

Could someone who has interviewed already provide an outline for the schedule of the day? Im interviewing next week and am curious as to the order of events.

First, you do a very short writing sample. Mine was just one question, pretty easy. They do their presentation about the school, etc, then a Q&A with current students who will then take you on a tour. After that is lunch with those students (catered by Andersons, which is just classic Buffalo). Then 2 or 3 interviews, but on my interview date I think pretty much everyone only had 2. One of your interviews is supposedly an ethics based interview, but neither of mine were.

Interviews were pretty casual

Just got the "continuing review" email. Still staying positive, but what a bummer =/

Snagged the last pre-december interview spot today...so relieved

good luck everyone! see you at 10AM!

Just got my interview at Buffalo! So happy...But pre-dec dates are gone, so I have to take post-dec. Hopefully things will go well 🙂

May I ask when did you complete your app? and if you don't mind, what are your stats? Thank you

Were there any interviews scheduled for this week? We had a dusting yesterday, wondering if it impacted anyone's travel plans.

Theyve issued many travel bans so highly unlikely

I actually had mine scheduled for Tuesday and had to cancel it last minute. I felt terrible but there was just no way I was going to be able to drive through that... sad day... 🙁

I am scheduled to interview this Friday and will leave tomorrow night. Interviews are still on.

Stay safe guys, luckily the area around the D school wasn't hit that bad but getting here might be difficult... Especially since the area around the airport got hit hard.

Well I'm driving up from down south. I am going to call to confirm again tomorrow. You all are still going, right?

FYI classes are cancelled today
Yeah, I called them up and was told classes were canceled. I don't know what to do. My interview is tomorrow and Erie county has a travel ban. Does anyone know of someone that I can email about this? There had to be other people on here who are in the same position as me.

Is it normal that my aadsas status still display "Received/Under Review" although I received application complete email? Does it mean rejection?

Definitely call up the admissions office. They can be very accomodating. I was hammered by the snow and my flight got cancelled twice...ended up not getting there until late afternoon and they were totally accomodating. It was very nice of them.

UB classes are cancelled again tomorrow. Not sure if they're going to cancel or not since they already sent the email this morning about it still happening.

I got the email too. They said that they will carry on withe the interviews. I can't imagine them retracting what they said in the email.

I was scheduled to have the interview tomorrow, and I had my flight leaving today to Buffalo which was cancelled. So I had to call the office and reschedule the interview. There was no problem rescheduling, so if some of you guys think it is better to postpone the interview, don't hesitate! It is also stated in the email they sent this morning that if anyone cannot make it tomorrow, they will reschedule the interview, although it will be post-dec.

With all this rescheduling you'd think they'd send an email for an interview to a predent...fingers crossed 🙂
