The Official "I've been waiting forever for PCOM thread"

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Bah haven't heard anything yet 🙁 I've been complete since October 20 or so... Is two months of waiting damning evidence?

Well, they interview well into the spring so all hope is not lost yet. I imagine things slow down in the Admissions Office over the holiday season like in any other office.

Did you get an interview invite... I don't think you ever said if you were still waiting or not...

MiesVanderMom, we're almost MCAT twins ::laugh:: congrats on the invite!!

nope...none yet and ive been complete since end of september...and im from philly 🙁 BAAH!!! :scared:

No, I'm a charter member of the waiting club. 🙁

i'm in-state and I got an interview invite recently. i'd been complete about two weeks. just passing this info along. Best of luck to all who are waiting patiently :luck:

Did you hear from LECOM yet? I imagine LECOM>PCOM since you're from western PA?

No, I'm a charter member of the waiting club. 🙁

Well I always neglect to think about other situations. For instance, I was complete at WVSOM (where I'm arguably MORE competitive) for just under two months before I was invited there for interview. There's still hpoe...obviously we've probably been reviewed and set aside, but I think that we will eventually get re-reviewed as PA residents and get invited within the next couple of months. At least that's my hope...

Koennen, what are your stats like (if you don't mind me asking..)?

obviously we've probably been reviewed and set aside

Yeah, I should be used to that. Happens to me all the time when I hit the bars.

Koennen, what are your stats like (if you don't mind me asking..)?

31 MCAT (13VR, 11BS, 7PS). 3.2 Overall/3.1 Science GPA

Yeah, I know ... ouch on the PS score and double ouch on the science GPA.

We have really similar stats. Looks like we're a dime-a-dozen. KUBA has similar stats to us, too.

32 MCAT (13 VR, 10 PS, 9 BS)

I have a 3.24 GPA / 3.04 Science GPA. So you're not gonna get any criticisms from my direction.

I probably would have fared better had I applied more broadly. But, for personal reasons, I've confined myself to the Philadelphia area (Jeff, Temple, Drexel, PCOM, UMDNJ - I knew better than to waste my money on Penn). I've taken a lot of flak for that because I've been told that if your really want to go to medical school you should be willing to move to Uranus if necessary. (There's an opening - no pun intended - for some pithy comebacks!)

If I don't get in this cylce, will have to start looking into post-bacs, retaking the MCAT to get the PS section up ... or both. Which really sucks! 🙁

I don't know... don't give up hope yet. Remember, they will make interview invites through April, and they're only scheduling into February as of yet.

As for the MCAT, I would avoid retaking it unless you're told by schools that it's the reason for your rejection. It is highly likely that your VR score would fall a point or two... (not a knock... it's the reason i'm not retaking, too)

Yeah, I've thought about that. But I think the 7 PS (along with the low GPAs) is a problem for the allopathic schools. And at this point, the osteopathic schools apparently aren't too thrilled either. Oh well, I sit and wait ...

Congratulations on your acceptances by the way. At least you have a home (somewhere) in August!

well i know you guys with the high MCAT and low-ish GPA have not been hearing. but i'm the opposite of you guys, and still haven't heard! I have a high GPA, and an MCAT a litttttle above their average. i sent a letter of interest too about 2 weeks ago, but nothing yet. we'll all probably just have to be patient until after the holidays. hopefully santa will bring me an email from PCOM haha

So be good for goodness sake...

I'm not sure if you are still talking about PCOM, but they stop doing interviews in the last week of March. The welcome reception for accepted students is in April.

Hmmm. According to drmax, PCOM is already scheduling February interviews and interviews end in March? This isn't good news for all of us who sit and wait.

drmax: how do you know they're scheduling February interviews?

I thought that I read it on here. Maybe that was a different school. I apologize if I've perpetuated bad information.

Well, I think miesvandermom said her interview was scheduled for late January. So I guess they would be scheduling February interviews at this point.

The fat lady hasn't sung, but it appears she's warming up her vocal cords. 🙁

Koennen, it really is their loss if they choose not to interview us. Don't let it ruin your holiday. I bet we'll both hear from PCOM in January 🙂 Try not to think about it buddy...

Nah, won't let it ruin the holidays. Too much drinking and partying to look forward to when all my buddies get home from school for the holidays.

Besides, things could always be worse. I could be the mouse in that YouTube video!

omg that was so disgusting....i could feel my gut wrench..and yet i couldnt take my eyes off of it....disturbing!!

Wait until you see maggots in the leg of a homeless person. 😱

ive seen it, as a 6 yr old at a railway station in India...back then i wasn't as disturbed...just fascinated. I remember staring at the guy's leg and I wanted to go up to him and ask him if it hurt. My mom stopped me and something along the lines of "you can do those crazy things when you become a doctor" Cant wait😀

oh by the way....good luck with your match!!! whats your top choice?? and what residency are you applying for?

I just called and was told that I'm complete and will receive something "in regards to finale between now and March."

I received an interview invite today. I hope that helps.

I looked at the out of state application fee and thought that was bad, then I looked at the oos tuition and my eyes fell out of my head

one of the pathologists i work with said that during his residency they had to gross a leg with maggots coming out of it...it must happen once in every doctor's life 😛

I have submitted 3 or four letters of recommendation, and I submitted my app about a month ago. But they told me that my letter from the pre med advisor had to be with from my undergrad institution, so I guess I am not complete (I still have to send that) but they still sent me an interview invite via email yesterday. I hope that helps.

Oh, sorry that post about the tuition fees was supposed to be in the WVSOM thread, but I did receive an invite from PCOM though

What are your stats? (if you don't mind my asking)

I interview at PCOM on Jan. 31st. And about my stats, I hate sharing them, but I will tell you that I am above their MCAT and GPA averages. I don't mean to be a jerk, but I hope that helps.

No problem. Given the uncertainty regarding how "anonymous" this forum really is, can't blame anyone for not wanting to put their information out there for the world to see.

Good luck on you interview!!!

If anybody is interested:

I received an interview invitation a couple weeks ago. It's set up for January 31st. My app was complete 2 months ago and I'm from the West Coast....

So then perhaps we will hear something in the coming month... I shall wait in anticipation.

is this thread in regards to both pcom AND pcom-ga??

Good question. You're the first person to mention GA in this thread, however. I'm pretty sure most people are talking about PCOM-Philly.

They are completly seperate in their admissions. I have been accepted to GA, and while in the interview in philly, I was asked if I had been accepted anywhere else. So they didn't even know that I had been accepted at the other campus.

sorry late comer in this thread, I too am waiting for PCOM but I really am not "waiting" anymore as my interest in the school is dropping exponentially each day ever since I got accepted somewhere a few months ago. But I was scanning this thread and wanted to give some advice to Koennen. Guess what, my MCAT and GPA are very similar to yours if not a bit lower and I was accepted into a few places. I think only applying to PA schools may be sort of a setback and if you don't happen to get in this year it may be worthwhile to apply more broadly next year instead of committing to a 2 year Master's program or something of that sort. Also it is not even too late to add schools to your primary as I've heard of people applying very late and still getting interviews in March or April and getting accepted to start in the Fall. Lastly you may want to look into Touro Harlem as they are just starting to take applications so even if you submit your primaries now you are no later than 2 weeks behind anyone else (including me). Besides, NYC is as close to Philly as you are gonna get if PCOM and the allo schools in PA don't show you any love. Anyways, this is just my advice, I see no reason why a good student needs to sit on his/her butt for an extra year if it's not necc. Good luck and feel free to post or PM me with any questions.

I have been complete at PCOM since late August/early September and even got a letter from them in September confirming that I was complete. Since then I called in October twice( to make sure they got the new MCAT score) and once in November. I then went to India for a month and took time of of work--since u can't while in med school. And now im back and still no response. I got into CCOM in the end of October and I sent in the first deposit of $250 in Nov. The next deposit of $750 is due in mid-January. I hope PCOM wakes up and actually looks at the applications of us all right after New Years!!!!!! Please send an interview invite!

Both CCOM( class: 160) and PCOM (approx class 260) are great but CCOM has a smaller class size but higher out of state tuition. Also I have free accomodation in Philly but not in Chicago. If anyone has thoughts on PCOM Vs.CCOM let me know~ or if ur in the same situation
