Anyone else hear back yet??
(Interviews/rejections/anything??)
I’m losing hope over here...
I got an interview invite a week ago. Don't lose hope! A friend of mine who is a D3 at LLU now, received her interview invitation in February. We should try being patient!

Did anyone receive an email asking for eligibility requirements for academic year 2020-2021?
It was an email specifically from LLU about financial aid stuff (I didn't get this email from any other school I applied to). However, I haven't even received an interview so I don't know why I should be updating my information and giving new information... Is this a generic email?

just got the call, 11:48 CT!!!!! OOS, not SDA. goodluck everyone!!

Do they still make calls today? How does it work? Pretty nervous right now..

Congrats to you all who got in! Does anyone who got in have any helpful advice and can you tell me what to expect for interview day? 🙂

Just received an interview invite, I think i'm going to cry!!!

Congrats!! did you get the invite today? do you know what dates they had available? 🙂

Thanks! Congrats to u too! They have tues, weds, and thurs avaliable.

omggg THIS week?! I am out of town I hope they'll allow me to schedule for the following week and not take that against me 😳

I hope someone can give us some insight on what interview day is like and how to prepare for it? 🙂

I know we have to write a prompt then you do your one-on-one (open?) interview...

Ohh don’t worry! 🙂 They work with your schedule and mine isn’t until next week!

Congrats on getting in everyone and to those who will join us in the near future!! For those of you who are not SDA or are not really religiously affiliated, as long you express interest do not completely reject their values then you can get in. I got in last cycle even though I told them that I was not really religious (not SDA) but like their values. I did dabble around volunteering with religious groups for the year I interviewed. You want your class to be like-minded and to get along and generally if you're hating on the values of the school then you would not make a good fit and would probably suffer here. I like my classmates 🙂

Stay positive and ReachOn!

For those of us that interviewed post-December (in December) I think we will probably be hearing back this week :0 hopefully.. (or have any of you heard back already?)

Rejected... I’m heartbroken. This was my first and top choice. (I was hoping for even a waitlist so I can send a letter of intent...)

I called them last week and they told me that probably they will send acceptances this week

Im a graduating 4th year here at Loma Linda, let me know if any of you have any questions I can help with.

Congrats to everyone who got accepted!

accepted today at noon!
don't lose hope guys!

Can anyone let me know their thoughts on the school? I feel like it was hard for me to get a feel at the interview day of what the program is like/if students are happy/how faculty is?

Hello! I am currently a D1 at LLUSD this year and can try to answer any questions you guys might have on the school and what it’s like.

Overall, I think the students are glad they chose LLUSD. For my class specifically, the reason why many of them came here was because of it’s service emphasis. Our class is also EXTREMLY close and honestly, they make going to school fun. We uplift each other and everyone is so willing to help each other out. Our class also has a lot of shared interests, so it has been easy for people to make friends that will definitely be life-long.

As far as the program goes, here is kind of a look at what is new/different from years previous:
  • Heavy class load. Classes last from 8-5 most days, which leaves you limited time to study at night.
  • We are taking two new classes. The first is a Professional Development course. And the other one is radiology, which used to be a D2 class. Bottom line: they increased the class load.
  • We spend A TON of time in the clinic. Good: you get hands on experience where you actually get to help and be useful. Nice to get your toes into "actual" dentistry within the first few months. Bad: it does take up a morning or afternoon of your week that other people might have free if they don’t need to be in clinic. This does hinder study time.
The faculty are really great, specifically the attending dentists. I have had great experiences with the attending dentists in and out of the lab and clinic. They are genuinely invested in your learning and will spend time with you to help you understand things. Also, just want to mention that the dental school specifically has a counselor in the school building that used to be a dental hygienist. She is the greatest, and really helps you out if you are struggling with classes or outside of school. She's amazing 🙂

What I will say is the most frustrating thing for our class is the lack of communication within the school. There seems to be a disconnect between admin and faculty. This shows in how classes are organized and specifically how the new curriculum was presented to us as students and to established faculty.

Hopefully this was helpful and sorry it was so long! I remember being SO LOST when I got into dental school. So feel free to ask more questions and good luck to everyone!

Thank you so much for the detailed info!! I was accepted a few weeks ago and I'm so excited to attend LLU.
I was wondering if you knew if it were possible to start research as a D1? You mentioned that you have classes from 8-5 which is already tough, so I'm curious if it's difficult to do extracurriculars or research in first year.
Thank you!!

Yay!! Congratulations, I am so excited for you! As far as I know, I do not know any D1's that are doing research with LLU. I know that D3s focus more on research, this is because they are mostly in clinic and do have more free time. My class is really involved in extracurriculars. A good portion of our class is very athletic and musically inclined and many keep up with that here despite the heavy load.

Hey everyone! I just got the call that I got into the DH to DDS pathway! If there is a FB page or anything for anyone else that is the same pathway or wants a roommate lmk!

Is there a FB page with admitted students?

Are there any Loma Linda Students that can share a copy of their schedules for the first year?

Are there any Loma Linda Students that can share a copy of their schedules for the first year?

Here is a glance of D1 year from Sept to Oct.
Also, a glance of Jan, when the course load picks up.

If you haven't already, join your class FB page. Search up Loma Linda University Dentistry DDS Class of 2024. I think our class has already made a group for you guys. My classmates will be much more helpful than me 🙂

For first years: how often do you have exams?
For 1st years, exams come during midterms and finals usually (unless a professor decides to do their test early to make the finals/midterm weeks easier). The quarter system places that around 4-6 weeks between "test cycles". LLU has a precession for biochem and I believe we had exams every week for three weeks.

Quizzes are more frequent and are typically weekly (some weeks we have quizzes in every class).

For any current LLUSD students, where do most of the students choose to live during their first and second years? Also, do a lot of people use the off-campus rental housing services if they choose to live off-campus? What would you recommend to do?

Many students choose to live off campus as it allows them to have their own kitchen, bigger rooms, rooms by themselves, their own bathroom etc. I know that some people in our class live in the dorms because it saves them money, but they miss having a place that is their own as they usually have roommates. If you like your space and want to have a quiet study environment if you like to study at home, I highly recommend living off campus.

I personally live off campus and live just a short walk to campus. I highly recommend finding a place that is a walkable distance if you can (these are hard to come by). The parking on campus can be really bad some days. I found my house on the Trading Post, but with COVID-19, they have suspended this service so I am not sure what the best way is to find a place. The off-campus housing service might be a good source to try instead. When I called them the summer before I started, they said that rental places go really fast! So just a heads up 🙂

Hope that helped!

Hello. I'm a D2 at LLUSD.

Just got done with D1 year last week, and noticed there wasn't one for this cycle yet.

Feel free to ask any questions you might have.

Best of luck to you all!

Hi! I actually have a question about the school life and the curriculum. Anyway I could directly message you?

For fourth years; do you need to complete a certain # of procedures or just hours?

For first years: how often do you have exams?

Fourth years complete a # of procedures and also meet production goals. For each procedure you perform, there's a monetary production number associated with it.

How likely is it that classes will be online instead of in-person in the fall?

How likely is it that classes will be online instead of in-person in the fall?

Fall quarter is 5-months from now, a lot can change. Based on what admins shared for my D2 year, with social distancing protocols D2's will most likely have a hybrid curriculum with labs split into smaller groups (pods/modules). For D1's it may be the same. It will most likely be online lectures because SOD is small and only have 2 rooms that each accommodate 1 class size (~100). If social distancing was applied, there's not enough room to allow that. Currently, our anatomy gross/wet labs are through zoom with pictures used on our practicals. For D1 summer we only had our one science class (biochemistry) in an amphitheater at centennial complex (CC). It's pretty big so the room may allow people to sit far apart from each other. CC is part of SOM so I'm not sure if that will be available for SOD students in the summer/fall. Though the classes may be online, I am sure the school is looking into ways to have an in-person proctored exam so the school no longer has to pay for remote-exam monitoring. I'm sorry I cannot provide a solid answer.

I've responded to a few of you but if anyone wants to ask a current student anything I'm available
