****The Official Minnesota Class of 2018 Interview/Acceptance Thread****

Much thanks! I was very surprised to get a pre December interview, given that I added Minnesota in mid august

Looks like UMN doesn't interview many applicants ! They only choose people they are really interested in. Congrats

That sounds like good news to me! The school was really nice, you will like it!

I'm keeping my top choice on the DL but I will say that this school is very impressive!

Is anyone here interviewing at Minnesota on Nov. 7th that wants to split on (taxi or rental car)/hotel? I just reserved a hotel at Days Inn that is a few walking distance from the school. Please message me if your interested haha. We can Skype/message for a few minutes for safety issues to verify that you are actually interviewing. Thanks.

During my interview day (September 26th) they mentioned that they will interview just under 300 applicants. In previous years they had just about the same amount of in-state and out-state that interviewed. With 98 seats (~60-70% in-state and ~30-40% out-state) that's about 1 in 3 that enroll. I haven't been able to find any information about the amount that they accept compared to how many enroll. From the class entering in 2009 informational table that I found, 61% of those that interviewed and were in state enrolled and 28% of those that interviewed and were out of state enrolled. This means that the acceptance rate has to be at least a bit higher!

hmm thats very good information.. seems like they have a relatively high acceptance rate for interviewees. thanks!

Does uminn require a specific laptop? If so, is that laptop's cost already included in the fees?

So I did some investigating of this and stumbled upon one of the classes Facebook pages. It seems that there isn't really any requirements or really specifications even. So you are just on your own for buying whatever.

I'm interviewing on Nov. 15. Excited. Got my invite two weeks ago.

Hello Interviewees, so want a great deal and save some money from these expensive interviews? Here it is our Dental Fraternity has a place for you to stay for FREE before your interview at the U of MN dental school. Whats the catch you might be asking? All we ask is if/when your accepted and are a student of the U of MN dental school you become a member of our Fraternity which is an awesome experience in general and can save you even more money and is an extremely fun time! There's no extravagant things we offer for on your interview besides a nice place for you to stay and a shower/restroom for you to use, all 4 years of students to ask actual questions after and before your interview about the school and see what our fraternity is all about. It is a Co-ed Frat so ALL are welcome. This will save you serious money and help you out let me know questions if you got them ill try to get back to you ASAP! Thanks!

laptop is not required. everyone uses ipad to take notes with notability app.

I second this. I asked one of the students this week at my interview and she seemed to feel that students are moving towards tablets/iPads for purposes of note taking.

So also mentioned that you can link your laptops to the patient schedules (maybe charts too), so for that reason I would purchase a laptop too, or keep the one you have if it's working.

ahhh! i should never have checked the portal. status changed, no idea if it means anything. happy thanksgiving fellow waiters 🙂

Status change for me too! I'm cautiously optimistic, because in the file review I remember the woman telling me that they usually only send acceptances on Dec 2nd, more acceptances, wait list, and rejections are sent out later. Anyone hear something similar?

status changed for me as well. OOS. Also hope it translates to an offer. How about others?

I don't remember her saying that, but I hope you're right because I got that status change on AADSAS as well!

What did it change to? mine still says invited for interview. This is frustrating, why did I have to check on thanksgiving. Now I can't stop thinking about it.

we are waitlisted bro.... This whole status change ruined my thanksgiving...

your status is supposed to change to "check back dec 2nd"

not necessarily dude. I heard it doesn't mean much if your status changed or not

according to last year's thread, it does mean you are accepted.

I also read about people who were accepted without any status change. Sometimes it just means they haven't gotten to your portal yet. Don't stress.

My status changed to check back dec 2nd. I hope that is a good thing, but we won't really know until Dec. 2nd so lets not get our hopes up.

Well I really hope this is true! I will pray that it changes on Friday!

For those with status changes, do you see these on the mobile portal or on the webpage?

Hmm.... my status still remains same.

Hmm.... my status still remains same. I really don't know what to say now guys. This will be the worst Thanksgiving holiday ever. Frustrated! !!!
Nothing is official !

Don't worry everyone! We have no idea how the system really works, it's a bunch of guess work based on past threads and loose interpretations of what what said at the interview. Take this day and weekend to enjoy your friends and family, because come Monday nothing will be the same.

What I have heard from another school admission office that schools have access to update applicants' status on aadsas portal.

I'm in state and mine changed. obviously we don't know for sure what it means. even if all these assumption about it meaning we got in are true, there are plenty of people in last years thread whose status didn't change and still got in at a later date. dec 2nd is not the end of the story. private schools are still very early in the process and I got accepted last year in august after a late march interview. there's always hope.

As per my conversation during file review, I know there's atleast 50% seats still available after Dec 2nd acceptances.

Wait, you got accepted last year but are going through another cycle? Any reason as to why you passed on an acceptance?

I hope that they haven't updated everyone's status as of yet. This is my number one school and I thought the interview went well.

As per my conversation during file review, I know there's atleast 50% seats still available after Dec 2nd acceptances but after waiting for 3 months and not getting a status change is so hard.

Still hoping for the best on Dec 2nd if not end of December will seem like eternity. Good luck everyone!

That's the impression I got as well. As I interpreted it, they basically said "We only send out acceptances on December 2nd - but don't panic if you don't hear anything. We also continue to send out acceptances, waitlists, and rejections throughout December and early into the new year"

She also did say the wait list for OOSers moves pretty fast, I assume due to costs most OOS students go elsewhere if there is a cheaper option.

For anyone who's status didnt get updated yesterday, did you guys get them updated today?
