***The Official NYU Class of 2018 Interview/Acceptance Thread***

Btw all...I interviewed mid-Nov, was waitlisted Dec. 2nd, got accepted last week! Keep calling, for those of you who are waiting!

Try to speak to Dr. Mejia. Express your interest in the school. She will ask... Why NYU? Or....you should just remind her why you are interested in the school, what you've been doing since you applied, ask her what you can do to improve your chances of getting in. If you are calling every week or so I guess just ask her about your file, whether it has been re-reviewed... but basically ask what you can do to get in. I also contacted my interviewer and ask what they think I should do.

For those of you guys who just got interviews, when did you submit your applications?
I submitted mine late so I am trying to get a feel for the timeline.

Thank you!

My application was sent out the first week of July.

Thanks for the advice. Will keep in mind.

does anyone know what the supplemental application that is completed during the interview?

I interviewed last year but was waitlisted. This year I am getting my MASTERS to better my application and still haven't gotten an interview here yet. Maybe this year's applicant class was way better... 🙁

I am a Canadian applicant who submitted everything by September. I still haven't heard back from the school yet. Should I be worried?

your DAT scores seem pretty good, what was your GPA?!? i hope you get in this cycle! good vibes your way!

Has anyone that interviewed 01/17 or later been accepted/heard anything from admissions yet?

You may have heard this elsewhere, but September is rather late to be applying, even if the deadlines are December-ish or later. I applied in mid-July and didn't get an interview invite at NYU until December (had the interview about 2 weeks ago). That's all the advice I have. I don't know how many spots they've filled, etc. I can say my school's adviser was actually yelling at me to get my app. in before July, even (she's intense, and effective. =) Best of luck, regardless.

If you were there on 1/17, I was in your interview group. Small world! They told us their head of admissions was on vacation until early February or so. I'm not expecting to hear anything back before the 3rd.

well, i interviewed a littler earlier (jan 10) and they said that we wouldn't hear anything until feb 1st... if i remember correctly, i think they were saying dr. mejia would be out of town and an official decision wouldn't be made until then.. so i'm assuming that the same thing applies to the jan 17 group well..

i'm soooo anxious.... after interviewing there, NYU is my top choice!!!

If you just started your Masters, then I'm assuming NYU and co. do not have any grades for you yet. Did you update AADSAS, and send in your transcripts so that they could blast your most recent semester grades out to everybody? I can personally attest to Masters classes being much, much more difficult than undergrad classes, so if I were a dental school, I would either want those grades, or see that degree in hand before extending offers.

Yeah I was there for jan 17 interview and same thing was said. Also when I talked to the students they said only half was full atm so don't lose hope!!

Got interview invite today...Kinda sucks that I can't go until the 14th...Hopefully spots are not full by then

Hi all, I have an interview scheduled next week at NYU. This being my first one I'm really nervous and excited! Any tips for a first-time interviewee? I get the sense that it's very conversational, but the older feedbacks seems to show some grilling happening. How has it been for this cycle?

And how long would you guys say it is between arriving at 8 to sitting down with the interviewer? Is the secondary application done by pen or electronically? Many thanks!

Likely depends who you get, there are multiple interviewers, mine was chill and conversational. You're interviewed in the order you get there so if you go early, you can be first once the interviewers show up. I think I arrived like 10 min early but nearly everyone was there already so I waited maybe 45-60 min? Its one page front/back with a pen.

Hey! Congrats on the interview!!
First with regards to waiting.. it really depends on the time you arrive. I arrived around 7:40~45 and sat down with the interviewer within 5 min. I know that the first person to interview arrived around 7:25 and interviewed right away. If you arrive at 8 you'll probably wait around for a while. I don't know if there is any significance in how early you arrive but you get numbered!!
Supp application is done by pen and they give you a pen so don't worry about bringing one. I thought the questions were just my general info but they did have one why nyu type question that threw me off (wasn't expecting it).
The interview itself was really relaxed. Very conversational. Do some research about the school. Just go to the school website and look through some specific program/outreach stuff that interest you and bring it up during the interview.
One more tip! If you are a girl, either bring comfy shoes like flats or make sure you can run in your heels. We had to practically run down the stairs during the tour.
Last thing. Are you from Vancouver?

I arrived at 7am, rode up the elevator with the interviewers and got interviewed first 😛

Congrats, SofaCola and others. I'll add my piece. The questions were somewhat generic and written on a sheet of paper, but my interviewer had clearly memorized them at some point and kind of jumped around. She also did a very good job of remembering my application - she'd clearly studied it a fair amount. My interviewer actually talked about as much as I did (which is good, because my one "bad" interview to this point involved me rambling too much because I was so happy to be there), and shared a couple stories about herself. I got to share a few of my stories, as well. I wish I could remember the specific questions, but they're along the lines of, "describe one of your biggest challenges, and how did you overcome it," "what are your strengths and weaknesses," "what are you most proud of," "why NYU," and one ethics question (always remember, honesty is the best policy). I feel like my interview got to go longer than most, because I was last, and I got to say everything I wanted to say, but we were told later to not worry too much if we didn't.

On that note, I recommend this book to see some usual questions (which I bought on the Kindle, and read AFTER my first interview...dumb mistake):
http://www.amazon.com/Dental-School-Interview-Matthew-Brutsche-ebook/dp/B005JTAO26/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1391026243&sr=8-1&keywords=dental school interview

Anyway, I arrived in their admissions office on the 10th floor (IIRC) right at 8am. I rode up the elevator with one faculty member who told me, "don't worry, you're not late," and a couple students who all said "good luck" when I got off...you will stick out like a sore thumb with your suit. =) There are about 20 people max in the interview group, but I made the mistake of picking the seat closest to the door, so I didn't get to talk to them much early on. NYU was not like other dental schools, who will kind of watch the social interactions, though, luckily. The supplemental app was easy - the "hardest" question was, "why NYU?" Funny thing, I actually handed my app. to the secretary, then took it back 10 mins later so I could add, "I also love NYC," to that answer. They were pretty proud of their location in their online information, and I have always wanted to spend at least a couple years in NYC.

The school will sell itself, so I won't bother. I recommend getting a hotel within walking distance of the school. I walked a big loop around mid- to lower-Manhattan to take in the sites. The main NYU campus is quite impressive, too. Have fun, and good luck!

I arrived at 7:30 and began my interview almost immediately, and I was the first one. When I came out, 3 people were already finished with theirs (mine was like 45-60 minutes long, while some only lasted 10 minutes). Be prepared for the standard questions and what not (I wouldn't call it grilling at all), ask good questions about the school, and don't be afraid to strike up a conversation. They like you on paper, now they want to see how you are in person.

Somehow, I am still waiting for an interview here!! third time applicant 🙁

Thanks, I already got accepted to OSU but since I live in NYC I was hoping to stay in nyc..but their loss if they dont want me
I'd be ecstatic to be accepted to any of the schools I applied to!

I had my interview this week and they said we would know by next week! keeping my fingers crossed!

Hey all. I have an interview on the 12th. I'll be in town 10-13. Anyone going to be there during that time? Would love some company in such a big city.

Anyone from around Jan 23 (I think) hear back yet??

DDSlyfe, we're probably in the same boat. I interviewed on 1/17, and we were told decisions might normally come back in a week or so, but their head of admissions was out until early Feb. I'm thinking we will hear early next week.

I wanna hear that good news asap! haha
