Just received an “application still under review” email. I haven’t interviewed yet and hope this is a good sign. Has anyone else received this email today?

Yep I just got the same email from Dr Mejia. She probably sent it to avoid getting buried under a pile of emails from applicants about their status etc. It could be a good sign if there are ppl who received rejections w/o interview but I havent heard anyone who received a rejection w/o interview yet so we’ll just have to wait and see

Lol I swear if NYU's tuition was only $10k less expensive, all these negativity towards NYU wouldn't exist. I mean ppl pay around the same for ASDOH, UDM, MWU, etc. yet those schools get 0 hate. Difference is for $10k more you'd be living in NYC rather than a suburb in Phoenix or downtown Detroit...

I interviewed and got accepted to ASDOH and I don’t think the difference is only the tuition. I can only talk about asdoh since I’ve only been there among the ones you mentioned. The quality of education is also different. Asdoh has a class size of 76 and faculties take good care of them. They get to spend 12 weeks in community health centers treating a lot of patients, like in the real world. They provide good clinical education.

I live in the East Coast and I have a couple of dentists who went to NYU and they all tell me to go somewhere else if I have the chance. They said a lot of their classmates dropped out of school and nyu is known to accept a lot of students and have a big class size then cut students out. They also said school doesn’t really provide studying materials so they had to find their own way to study. Class size of 370 is huge and will make a difference for students.

The only reason I want to go to nyu is their name value. Period.

how did everyones interview go so far? any tips?

Anyone completed application late (end of September or later?) received interview invitation?

if we got accepted, how long do we have until to put down our deposit? because i just checked the portal and it doesn't mention a specific date as to when we have to accept our offer of admission?
As someone mentioned, you have 30 days aka January 4 to put your deposit down. I don't want to assume it's 30 days regardless of when you're accepted, but I'm sure they will give you a specific date depending on when you are accepted.

Officially committed to NYU on Monday the 10th! I hope to see most of you in July 😀

Any updates on a FB group for the class of 2023?

Thank you!! It really means a lot! I'm rooting for you and I really hope you get in somewhere too! If there's anything I've learned after not hearing back for a while, the right school will notice everything you've done and see you beyond any "red flags" you may have... Don't lose hope! 🙂

How did people find out their decisions? Does it say whether you got accepted or rejected by email or do you have to log into the portal?

Did you send a letter of intent after your interview? I also interviewed this week and I’m waiting for a response now.

Letter of intent? I only send those when a school waitlists me.

I just sent thank you letters to my interviewers the day after. I highly doubt that had anything to do with it though.

Did you feel like you’d get accepted after the interview? I felt that for my interview, it’s seemed a bit too laidback/conversational and it’s been worrying me..

I actually checked my portal off the bat bc someone who interviewed the week before Dec 3 said they were going to update it around 12pm PST. Never got an actual e-mail, but another person on FB said that they check if people have checked their status on their portal and if they haven't, then they'll send an e-mail to check it

I received my package today in the mail. But no scholarship. Did anyone get any?
congrats!! did you already commit to NYU? I committed on Monday (got accepted Dec 3) but I still haven't gotten anything regarding my acceptance in the mail

My interview was quite the opposite of yours (and a LOT of other peoples'), that I doubted whether I'd get accepted after... Mine was very "next question" style and a majority of my questions came from my app and this sheet of paper that had other questions, which he used to take notes on. I had some conversational moments but for the most part, I felt mine was super formal and at times I couldn't really read my interviewer. I felt a lot better after the interview with my admissions officer bc it was much more conversational and laidback but I thought my faculty interview would weigh more eventually.

Yeah, my interviewer made it sound at the end that they thought favorably of me.

I heard that most people got interviewed by a faculty dentist for the first round but an admissions officer for the second round. Was this the case for you too? It was strange cause I got interviewed by admissions officers twice, and both interviewers seemed to ask similar questions... they were both very friendly and made me feel comfortable

Yes one was an adjunct prof, next one was a member of the adcoms - not a dentist.

My faculty interviewer was a professor who also does research, second interviewer was an adcom member
