Do you remember when they began sending out invites last year? I haven't heard back from them after paying the supplemental fee. Thank you.

They start now. But dont expect an email for a while unless you're a HIGH gpa and High DAT w/big volunteering etc. They take their time.

Has anyone received an interview invite to OHSU yet? I think they’re supposed to send them out by mail.

From previous year's threads and from friends who are current D1, it seemed a competitive applicant email was sent late September (on the 27th last year IIRC) and first invites were sent around October 5th. Almost there!

Just received a high competitive email, is that a good sign of a future interview? or just a general email to everyone?

I just received my competitive email. When I first read it I thought it was going to be a rejection LOL.

Hello all I received an email as well, did it have a subject of OHSU Application Status Update? Informing you that they are not prepared to take official action at this time?

So you don’t feel bad, a few people on the Interview Prep Facebook group and I received this one too. It’s different from the ‘competitive’ e-mail everyone else is referencing. Trying to stay positive, we may be considered for interviews down the line.

Thank you DSchoolorBust202X for turning my negative into a positive! At least I know, best of luck to you throughout this cycle! 🙂

I noticed there are two types of email.
Is any component of your application missing? It sounded like these email is for someone who lacks a component????

Do you know how many gets this competitive email and how many end up interviewing?

This is my second time applying to OHSU, and I got that “competitive” email last year. I didn’t ever get an interview though. I got it again this year so fingers crossed something happens this time! This isn’t meant to be negative or anything, just that a positive email can lead to nothing and vice-versa.

DSchoolorBust202X and Pcsaints6 I love the positivity!! You two are going to do great, no mater what you do or where you go.

Also, the non-competitive email doesnt mean you cant still get in. My class had a couple of people that got it and later did the academic update after fall term and got interviews without the competitive email. Keep your heads up and good luck.

Hello everyone!

Does anyone know the percentage to get an interview invite... from the people who received the “highly competitive” email yesterday

Thanks,

Ditto on this. I got the same email yesterday and was concerned I wouldn't be on track to fulfill their minimum credit requirements before the fall term ended (weird undergrad history). I called admissions today to ask them to look over my file, and they asked me a few questions (seemingly random so I don't remember the details...), told me everything was fine, and they sent me another email which was the highly competitive email!

So if anything, calling them and asking what may be wrong IF you're not already aware of issues may help. They were friendly. Best of luck!

Also side note, the person I spoke with said that interview invites will be coming up soon.

Well that is very positive news thank you so much for the insight! I will look at doing the same thing! My day has now been made thank you Kgstr and best of luck to you throughout the entire cycle! 🙂

No problem and same to you!

A good % of the "competitive email" get interviews. It's their main pool of interview candidates but if I remember correctly from my conversations with administration (not specifically about this email, but in general) I was told "competitive" was like a 3.2 gpa or better with either an 18 or 19+ DAT. I dont recall exactly as it was about 2 years ago but it was something to that effect. but dont take this as gospel though, as when they said that to me it wasn't in the context of the email. I'm sure there are people above and below those thresholds that get different emails, so the number of people that get the competitive email may not be the same as what the admission staff considers competitive grades and they may have other variables. Just putting it into perspective.

You can look up the statistics of matriculation that OHSU has online as they are published (example: class of 2020) by googling "ohsu dental school matriculation statistics. There are more of them from different graduating years but they're usually pretty similar overall

In the supplementary application that we received with the interview invite, how important is it that add something in the "supplemental personal comments" section?

Congrats. What interview dates were available?
Scratch that...I just got ahold of them. They are offering interviews on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays pretty much now until Dec 1. You can pretty much pick whatever day you want!

Any insight into what interviews are like? I haven't had a one-on-one interview yet, so I would love to hear some tips/advise. 🙂

Posted this to the 2022 class cuz one of you guys asked the same thing there.

Usually super laid back, they have two 1-on-1 interviews with you and a faculty member (usually an instructor). They're usually pretty relaxing interviews where they just try to get to know you and see if there are any red flags from you. Just be confident, tell the truth and be yourself. I had 1 interview where the faculty didnt look at my info at all as they wanted to just get to know me and my desires before actually going over my application, and had another interview where the person basically had my application memorized to the letter and asked questions about my research, why i wanted to be in dentistry, and why this school etc (usual stuff you'd expect). So know your application well, be prepared to talk about anything positive and negative about it and be yourself.

The day is simple, they give you a small breakdown of info about the school, have you fill out a small hand-written hypothetical situation (likely to check if your writing styles match or for fun or something, mine was interesting and fun) Then you do a tour of the facility, They usually let you sit in and or observe in a procedure in the clinic or sit in on a lecture for a 1st or 2nd year class. You then have lunch with an upperclassman and they give you guys like 20 bucks to eat (i suggest the fried chicken sandwich at elephants or the black bean burger for vegetarians). Then you do the 2 interviews. Thats the day usually, or at least something similarly formatted depending on the schedule (maybe interviews earlier etc)

Hope that helps

Here's a link to the SDN page for the OHSU SOD. It has an interview questions section which if you havent ever looked at can be useful since they're pretty standard questions and can help prepare you to feel comfortable about them if you're really that nervous

Thank you so much for this information! Do OHSU interview a lot of people? If you don't mind me asking, do you recollect how many people were at your day of interview? I have my scheduled in November before thanksgiving, hope thats a good time right before the holiday 😉

Congratulations! That's awesome. I was wondering when you had received the complete email and if you had received the competitive email as well?

They interview about 150-160 people every year, something like 95% of those interviewed receive an acceptance letter. If you get an interview, they have already vetted your application and want you there,as long as you don't derp it up you'll likely get in. They usually have between 1 and 5 people on interview days (they give you a schedule of days for you to pick and don't allow for more than 5 (maybe 4) in a single day) I had 4 people interview with me. You can look at matriculation stats by googling it "OHSU dental school matriculation statistics" and it'll be from their page as they're published info.

I saw at least 4 people that were being interviewed today walk through our simlab (I'm a 2nd year) and prob about 4-5 more earlier this week, so they're definitely interviewing people. Hopefully some of those who did so this week will talk about how it went.
