****The Official Roseman Univ. Class of 2018 Interview/Acceptance Thread***

I got an acceptance call today at 530 PM Mountain Time Zone
 
Amanda said that we are given 45 days to decide on whether we will be attending Roseman next year, which is 15 days more than any other school I heard back from today (I like that because I am so indecisive). I honestly believe that 60-70% of all pre-dents use SDN, and the fact that only 5 of us got acceptances may mean that they are spreading out phone calls over the next couple days. We will see come tomorrow. I was called around 3 o' clock and I'm on the west coast, meaning it was 4 PM in Utah. We talked for at least 5 minutes, and assuming everyone is as inquisitive as I am, that only means 12-15 calls per hour, plus they refuse to leave a message, meaning a lot of the calls made today had to be repeats. I'm sure they weren't able to get through 80 today since no one indicated any calls whatsoever until 2:45 on West coast. Roseman is currently tied for my top school, so I hope to hear some more good news tomorrow from the rest of you as potential classmates. Good luck everyone!
 
I got a call yesterday around 5:00 pm from Amanda. Honestly I believe they spread the calls out because a friend of mine is a second year and didn't get a call until late January. But honestly I wasn't expecting a call the first day. It happened so quick. Had my interview in the nov 22 noon group and got a call 10 days later! I grew up in South Jordan so if any of you who are planning on going have any questions about the city let me know. Good luck to you all.

btw, two people have already confirmed that they have interviewed on Nov22 ~ ( latest scheduled interview date) ! Interesting ...!

Actually 3 of them. Very interesting, maybe they're going backwards in date interviewed?

They definitely have post and pre Dec interviews. If your friend got called in Jan it was the second batch of mass callings I bet.

I interviewed 11/08 if that helps anyone? Since some people are still being called, I think a lot of you still have hope!
 
My hand is cramping from holding my phone for two days straight. I can't take much more. I keep it on full volume 24/7 now, including during class and work, while I sleep, and in the shower. Every text message triggers a small conniption fit, followed by a period of severe disappointment until the next false alarm. It's a cruel, vicious cycle. I've told my friends they're not allowed to contact me by phone until I hear back. Desperate times call for desperate measures.
 
I have a feeling they are calling in order of most recent interviews? Not good for 11/22 interviewee😕

My students are all sending in lab reports this week, so every email received tears me apart bit by bit.
 
I hope they are still making calls this week. This is the only school I've interviewed at and my one shot at getting in. Stay strong brahs.
 
I'm in! I got the call yesterday around 5. I interviewed on 10/11.

To those who haven't been called yet, don't panic. I got the feeling they're super busy and will be calling people this whole week
 
So, I'm 99% certain I'll be attending Roseman (going to send my deposit in the next few weeks). Who else is with me?!
 
I'm 33.33% sure I will be attending Roseman University. It is in a 3-way tie for first; the block schedule and pass/fail curriculum is just way too damn good to pass up! Does anyone want to list all of their reasons for choosing Roseman over the other schools so that I might find some more pros to add when weighing the pros and cons between schools?

I think you need to consider what impressed YOU the most. At the end of the day, you're the one spending at least 4 years at that school, and living in that city. You also want to consider things like how important research, community outreach, specialties, clinical experience, cost etc. are to you. If I were you, I would rank how important each category is to me, then rank each school on those categories. Then just see which get's the highest rank 🙂

I loved the block scheduling, all the academic support and the pass fail system. The building and all the facilites were impressive. Given that it's this areas first dental school, I presume there will be no problem getting patients in clinic. I was also very reassured by the students and profs I spoke to at Roseman. I also liked the climate/environment.

My concerns about Roseman are as follows:
1) INSANELY high tuition. 🙁
2) less important, but still a consideration is the culture of the SLC area. I'm not at all religious, from the liberal bay area, I enjoy coffee and love wine! Is the mormon influence going to be something of a culture shock for me?
3) Also, I'm female. And I recall learning at my interview that their gender balance is way off, only 15 female students in the current d1 class or something? I just find that odd.
 
any reason why its taking them forever to let the interviewees know if they've been accepted/rejected/wait listed?

Well I have actually decided to run a quantitative-type of analysis for these schools. After every interview I made a list of all of the pros and cons that I could think of. Now that I have my lists for each of the schools, I was going to assign values to each pro and con based on how important it is to me and subtract the respective cons from the pros. Then, whichever school has the highest value will be the one I choose. I'm still working on limiting potential biases and looking for more pros and cons for each school. I know it probably sounds like I'm going too in-depth with this, but I just want to make sure I choose the school that I will be happiest at. The block schedule and pass/fail is just such a nice stress reliever!!

My ONLY hesitation about this school is that it is not a tried and tested method. For those of us who are interested in specializing later on, there aren't too many ways to distinguish oneself. I adore everything else this school has to offer, but I fear having a wonderful 4 year dental school experience and then not being competitive enough to be matched into a specialty program.
 
To all of us who have yet to hear back, this is my theory as to why they're so quite:

They love us all so much that they don't know what to do or how to fit all of us next year!!! 😀

To comment on this, the method so far has worked quite well. Of the two classes that have taken Part I, only four total students have had to retake and all four have passed on the second time around. You're absolutely right about us being untested thus far in regards to matching into a specialty program. Does that necessarily mean we won't? Absolutely not, there is a lot more in consideration than what school you come from. However, if specializing is critically important to you (keeping in mind that lots of people want to specialize before dental school, few do after getting through), it should definitely weigh into your decision on where to attend. Programs like Harvard, Columbia, Penn, UCLA, etc. that match well should be at the top of your list.

Yes! I have put a ton of thought into that as well, because I currently don't know whether I want to specialize or not right now (or if I would even possess the aptitude to do so). I mainly don't want to close any possible doors by accepting this offer. However, other pass/fail schools like UCSF have roughly 50% of each graduating class get into a specialty program. The only difference is that Roseman is so new and is yet to garner any sort of reputation. Essentially, it would be a gamble, but I will be applying for the Health Professional Scholarship Program as well, and if I specialized it would be after my payback in the military. I think that experience would help give my application a boost with the lack of verifiable grades for every class and maybe give Roseman a bit more time to develop a reputation in the dental community.
 
The consensus for specializing is that, for the most part, nobody cares where you went to dental school. The P/F grading has a bigger impact when it comes to potential disadvantages in specializing versus the name/reputation of the school. That said, for military, it is a moot point for you. Different factors go into specializing in the military, chief among them is your history of service and grades. Due to the high cost of attendance, Roseman does have one of the highest (or highest, I've heard conflicting stats) of military scholars among dental schools. We also have quite a few older military guys, among them ones that have directed military residency programs before. In this case scenario it might actually help your situation. Just my $0.02.

Was Dr. Harmon the guy who gave the 2 hour intro to Roseman or was it someone else?
