****The Official Tufts University Class of 2017 Acceptance Thread****

I think you can pretty much count on the 23-25 number. There is no way Tufts waitlist only moves 2-5 spots. Come April 1st there will be a big wave of offers. You can count on that.

Where did you come up with 23-25? Tufts offers over 400 applicants a spot in the class and they anticipate about 180-200 to accept the offer. It would not surprise me at all if only a few come off the wait-list. Tufts is very good at sorting out who they want and offer acceptances to 80% of their interviewees. Again, it would not be shocking to see only a few to come off the waiting list when as many as 400 applicants are offered a seat in the class.

sorry I misunderstood you
do you mean after the interview if the student got waitlisted... does he have a good or bad chance to get accepted later?

Here's what they said during the presentation at the interview. Once you received an interview, 70-80% of the interviewees are accepted. After all of the interviews are completed and acceptances have been handed out, a little over 400 applicants are accepted. However, Tufts knows, historically, that about 200 people decide not to attend.

I am assuming that they accept this many students even before they start drawing from the wait-list. I could be completely wrong, but it makes sense based off of the information given during the interview. Therefore, it would not surprise me if only a few come off the wait-list if 400 are accepted immediately after interviewing (and were not initially placed on the wait-list). In that case I'd say fewer than 23-25 students are accepted of the list, but I can't say for sure how many. If in the past they truly only accepted 2-5 students from the list I would go based on that figure. However, calling them wouldn't hurt to confirm.

At the interview, she said last year they accepted 6 off the list last year, 23 from the previous year, and 2 the year prior.

Those numbers are exact but they are plus/minus 1-2 from what I remember hearing.

Not to tell people to not go to their interviews... but for those who are on a tight budget and have acceptances elsewhere, I would reconsider.

When I was at the interview last week, they told us this:

185 total seats
139 deposits
30 acceptances already out, pending response
60 more acceptances to be sent out Friday (yesterday)
She said about 50% accept the offer. 30 + 60 = 90. Half of 90 = 45
45 + 139 deposits = 184
This means the class is already full, and every interview date (from last week up until March) it will pretty much be for a waitlist spot. As others have stated, the waitlist also doesn't really have much motion.... so it's pretty much a rejection.

It's fair to assume that everyone that is being interviewed in late Feb or early March is going to be waitlisted.

It makes sense at this point in the cycle, and with so many offers still on the table.

well gee wiz....there goes tufts.

For those accepted on the 19...have you received your packets in the mail yet? Mine still hasn't come in

Hey guys, I just sent in my deposit at Tufts! I can't wait.😛 Is there an official class page on fb or something?

Also is anyone starting to look for housing? I'm going to start looking myself, let me know if you are interested as I'm looking for a roommate too. Congrats to everyone!

for those who have interviewed before
do you give the supplemental application at the beginning of the tour or during the interview to the interviewer? and what is the order of interview day (tour, financial aid, interview, ..etc)?

Hey guys, I'm kind of looking for advice on something. As you all know that have been accepted, should anything change on your transcript, you have to let Tufts know in writing. I'm considering dropping my Immunology class (without penalty; we started really late), but I don't want this to reflect poorly against me, aka have my offer rescinded. It's just that with all of my interviews this semester I had to miss quite a bit of the lectures and the course here is definitely not easy. I honestly don't know what to do. My guidance counselor told me I should stick it out, but I really don't want a C or W on my transcript my senior year of undergrad...

I have missed almost 2 full weeks of classes so far this semester between interviews and missing a week for a dental mission. I think my grades are going to suffer as a consequence, but I am confident that I will still have plenty of time to bring them up. Pretty much in the packet it seemed to say as long as you don't get less than C's they won't really care. However, I think that a W might be looked upon less favorably. I am planning on toughing it out through my classes, and if I get a couple B's, even a C, I am not going to worry about it tremendously.

My $0.02 is that you should try to stick it out. It is hard missing lots of class, but obviously you are smart enough to do well; just do your best. grind your teeth and bear through it

You hand in the supplemental at the start. Order was something like:

Icebreaker -> Presentations ->Tour -> Lunch (which you will be pulled out of to interview) -> Interview -> More lunch followed by presentations or just presentations depending on how long your interview was.

I forget what order the presentations were in but they were the standard curriculum, housing, fin aid, etc

Call the admissions office and explain your situation and ask if you can drop the course or have to stick it out. Only they can tell you.

I did that but they didn't really give me a straight forward answer. They just told me to send the admissions committee an email telling them if I drop it and they would send me their decision.

If you plan on dropping, you had better have a good reason. "It was hard" is NOT a good reason. Additionally, if you DO plan to drop, you should have your professor write a letter on your behalf stating that you did so while you were in good standing in the course.

In other words, you should only drop the course if you have an extenuating circumstance. Given that you're in undergrad and you've got other courses that you're already enrolled in, I can't really think of a circumstance that would warrant you dropping.

any answers???

Don't drop the course - I was thinking about it because it was actually placed on my plan of study by mistake (and I now have 3 more credits than required to graduate with my MA), and then contacted the school. They said that since it was on my plan of study and the decision was made upon those courses, that I had to take it. In the end, I agree that the extra coursework will give me a better taste of what dental school is all about.

Again: Don't drop! It's in the contract we signed too for the deposit.

Hope this helps! I am so excited to meet you all in the fall!

Does the disciplinary form need to reach by the deposit due date?? I don't know who I need to give that form to so that they can fill it out

Yes,I called them this morning and it needs to reach their offices by the deposit due date. The form should be filled out by the Dean's Office of Student Affairs or something along those lines. Just type the name of the form into google with your undergrad school name and you should be able to find something about it.

For that form I had to go to the student conduct office at my school. It takes them 2 weeks just to send it to Tufts so I made sure to give them the fax number to tufts' admissions office. They then faxed it in one week. You should probably do the same since these schools take forever just for a little form.

When did you apply?
I applied rather late (I think everything was sent late October). Got an interview end of January and my stats were similar

oGPA: 3.3
sGPA: 3.0
AA: 21
TS: 21
PAT: 21

I'm glad that you got an interview, and this is in no way a shot against you...

But my application was completed and received by Tufts by the end of August.
I have a oGPA 3.36 (3.27 when the application was first submitted)
sGPA: 3.52
AA 22
TS 21
PAT 20

I've done all the shadowing/service/extracurriculars/leadership positions....I just don't see how they distinguish between the two of us when we have very similar application, but I have a significantly higher sGPA. Maybe my PS sucked...I didn't think so though.

I don't understand why I haven't heard anything from Tufts at all...besides letting me know my application was complete.

I interviewed earlier this week, and I believe they said that there were only two interview dates left after mine, which I assume are both taking place in the upcoming week(s).

What are the terms and conditions of your acceptance? That you maintain a certain GPA? or that you simply stick through with all your classes and not get below a C? Most applicants know this, and after acceptances come in, they tend to slack off their senior year. I had several friends who maintained a 3.8+ GPA up to their 4th year and then it promptly went down the drain as soon as they got accepted to dental school. 😛

I dropped a class and switched two courses. As long as you finish the requirements they don't seem to mind - my acceptance still stands, according to them!

hey guys, do you know if Tufts sends an email when they receive your check??

They never sent me anything, so I emailed them to confirm that they had received it, which they had. Seems a little weird that they don't automatically send a confirmation for something so important.

Ya I have a 3.0 as well and AA20 and TS21.. Hopefully i get an interview soon. Does anyone know if there still inviting applicants for interviews?

So, I don't have as strong of numbers as you do... and I applied later than you and received an interview a few months ago (decided not to attend). I would assume that it has A LOT to do with ECs and LORs. I was told this in one of my interviews... "Students fill their EC section with... 'pre-dental society' and 'homeless shelter volunteer' and after adding up the hours we realize that they did nothing of consequence. Students that have weaker stats, but have a reason for it (referring to their ECs taking up their time) will always get an interview." I am thankful for that mindset of some dental schools.

I called last week and an Admin person mentioned they've already met capacity in terms of number of deposits. However, acceptances and interviews have continued to be given out.. so theyre expecting not everyone who sent a deposit will attend

Yesterday was the last day of interviews for Tufts. According to the admissions office, they have roughly 5 seats remaining...they should know the exact number of seats after Thursday I think.

Any updates from those who interviewed sometimes in the past couple weeks?

Has anybody heard back from Tufts since they submitted their deposit? I just want to hear something back so it can be official haha. I didn't get mine in until March 6th, the due date haha. Also, I gotta know if the other SDNer at Tufts at my interview on Feb 12th got in?

and is their anybody willing to drop their seat? or not sure if they will attend Tufts yet?

I sent in my deposit. It got there on Monday, March 5 and I got an email saying that they received it on March 7 but that they have not received my Dean paperwork yet.

I am just anxious about hearing back. I had an incident on my disciplinary report which I had already disclosed to them, but I still want to hear back from them to know that it really wasn't an issue. Have you contacted them to ask when we will hear back from them? I called last week to confirm that everything had been turned in and she said they had a lot of deposits and paperwork to go through...she said she wouldn't have it done by the end of last week but as soon as possible. Should I worry if I haven't hear from them by the end of this week? I don't want to call them again haha
