***The Official UCLA Class of 2018 Interview/Acceptance Thread***

Just out of curiosity, what do you guys think made you good scholarship candidates? Was it some kind of research, or wide array of experiences? All I've ever heard is that dental schools aren't big on providing scholarships, because when you get out, you'll be a dentist.

I also applied to UCLA, thus the reason to check in here.

No clue quite honestly. I had a very good GPA (4.07 overall, 4.01 science) and good, but certainly not great DAT (22). I had minimal research experience and solid extra curriculars, but I'm sure many people equaled me in that area if they weren't more impressive. I'm extremely happy to have received what I did.

How did you find out? Email?

Yes, email for me and it was especially surprising because I was accepted back on Dec 2nd, and got no mention of the offer until yesterday. Keep your hopes up if you haven't received anything yet.

IIRC, it was through some type of weighted numbers system, where they assign a weight to pertinent stats. I'm guessing GPA, sGPA, and whatever manner of DAT scores they wish to focus on. You get a composite number and they just send them out according to those ranks. Judging by your numbers you were competitive. When I interviewed they said that the scholarships were all sent out already, which means HaverfoodsDDS was next in line. Someone that received a scholarship declined UCLA and you got the scholarship.

Congrats. It may not seem like much in the big scheme of things, but with repayment and compounding, these chunks that you can take off the top really add up. Alternately, it could be the difference between you counting pennies all day or deciding to live in a slightly better place, which will increase your happiness and decrease stress. These things matter.

Just to double check, UCLA doesn't participate in the Certiphi program, right? (I'd love to save the money).

I don't think so....I haven't heard much from UCLA yet though in terms of enrollment specifics. I'm sure they'll have their own thing once they get around to sending out all of that paperwork.

Does anyone know if UCLA still requires their students to buy a certain laptop? Or are they allowed to bring their own? (Mac Owner 🙂 )

At my interview Dr. Bibb said that they no longer have a laptop requirement

You all are just so inspirational. I am applying this coming cycle and just dying. I am OOS and UCLA is the top for me, dream in cloud 9 kind of stuff. I just don't know if I will make it... How strict are they to sticking to their average DAT scores?

Are there still spots open and when does ucla stop interviewing? Haven't received an interview invite yet..

Thank you, hopefully I'll be invited. Best of luck to everyone!

Best of luck!

And don't lose hope, keep in mind that a positive/negative aspect (however you want to look at it) about ULCA is that they can invite you out for an interview on a very short notice--literally days to a week before the interview day.

That would be fine with me! I live in Orange County.

After completing the statement of intent to register, statement of legal residence and paying the deposit, is there anything else we need to do ?

-I know that they mentioned something about immunizations but is that info received in the summer?

I think you just wait to hear from Noemi in March or so. Congrats!

I believe Ucla interviews extend up to April or so for wait listing. I know someone who was interviewed in April and got accepted 2 weeks before school started.

Best of luck everyone! From what I have heard UCLA is looking to be done pretty soon here with interviews. Just what I have been hearing floating around the grapevine.

I'm pretty sure that I will be declining UCLA next week, so my spot will be open.

Just got an acceptance phone call from Noemi

Is there anything we have to do with regards to financial aid yet? I've done the fafsa, but that's it. Do we have to fill out the California state application as well?

Would like to know about this too.

Do we have to wait until the admission package comes in the mail? If so, when should we be expecting it?

Is UCLA done with interviews? any interviews in March?

Not really sure but they might be wrapping up pretty soon. Last years 2017 thread said the class was filled by the beginning of March.

I interviewed on Feb 27 and got the acceptance call from Noemi on Tuesday, March 4th even though Noemi said that I'll know the decision within a week. When I interviewed, she did say that there are limited seats in the class but when April 1st comes, there might be some spots available due to multiple deposits. I am very happy with an acceptance offer from UCLA since it has been always my first choice (I did my undergraduate at UCLA). Good luck to you all that are still waiting!!!

Just making sure, were we suppose to receive some sort of confirmation email from Noemi that out spot has been held after submitting our $1000 deposit and completing the SLR/SIR?

You won't get anything from noemi. You will get receipt email saying you paid for the deposit and that's all you need.

Anyone know how many students will be selected for grad housing allocations?

I think there are plenty of rooms for everyone. Graduate Housing isn't really an issue.
