just got the call! see ya'll next year!
-last name K and interviewed mid Oct

UCLA is my dream school! I’m applying next cycle. If some y’all don’t mind sharing your stats, please reply to me or PM me!! I’d love to know. CONGRATS EVERYONE!

Does anyone know when they stop calling? I'm really nervous lol.

I think they call til the end of the day, around 4-5 🙂

Do you know anything about the deans scholarship? Is it just for the first year? People are saying that it's for OOS but I am in state!

I have no idea. There's a new Dean and he's actually made a lot of changes this year so I think that's why scholarships were offered to IS and OOS students this year (this wasn't the case last year! There isn't an IS classmate of mine that I of know that received a scholarship). I believe it's probably only going to be for the first year (the scholarships given to OOS students are usually only a year to offset the OOS tuition before those people get IS tuition their D2-D4 years).

I hope this makes sense! Lol

It makes perfect sense! Thankyou!

really hope later I get that scholarship, would definitely help

Hello, I was accepted around 9AM by Dr. Bibb. In-state applicant. I have a question about the scholarship offer. I was offered either 2.5K or 25K scholarship. I was too excited to hear the offer clearly. Can you guys state how much you guys were offered for scholarship? Thank you very much.

Also, if you are interested, I interviewed in August.

If they said it was the deans scholarship, I think it was 25k!

Well, congrats to all those who got in. I just got an email saying I'm on the waitlist. Really hoping and praying that I will be able to secure a spot.

Lol is everyone getting waitlisted? maybe there is no rejection.

waitlist also.

Any idea as to how the UCLA waitlist works? Obviously impossible to predict, but any information, no matter how small, would be appreciated.
Sorry this is not exactly the answer to your question, but I got an email too. Does it say waitlist for you!? In my email it only says, "your application is pending a final decision from the committee at this time." And that they will contact as sooneeded as a decision is made. Does this mean I was placed on a waitlist?

was everyone that was accepted awarded the $25k scholarship?

my caller didn't mention it for me, but fingers crossed he just forgot

They didn't mention it for me either. Hopefully, we get all the information for that through the email this week.

Have they sent out an email with deposit information yet? Did anyone ask on the phone when it'll be sent out??

I really want to go here but its not my cheapest option. Do you think its worth paying more to go here? When do financial aid packages come in?
Financial aid packages weren’t posted until around late August, if I remember correctly.

they just sent out the email to make your $1k deposit or to decline the offer

edit: but we have to wait to get our acct id lol

won't let me pm you, but UCLA isn't my cheapest option either. But i felt more comfortable there and I think its a better deal than my cheaper school in terms of what I want to achieve in the four years.

Has anyone who received a scholarship over the phone been sent an email or anything with the scholarship information?

I also was accepted with the 25k scholarship! It sounded like a 1 year thing but Im in state. They weren't giving a lot of info on the phone. Also can we not log in until friday?

I got the email to log into the website for the deposit but haven't heard anything else about the scholarship :/

For people choosing UCLA, what are your reasons? I'm torn :/ I love the pass-fail and great matching rates for residencies but I feel like the equipment was a little behind and the struggle for patients in Westwood

yah I remember the admissions dean and my interviewer dancing around the topic of patients... my student guide mentioned the older equipment too

at the end of the day residencies compare students from different schools to gauge how good the applicant really is. pass fail is great but there will always be that pressure to get honors to stand out

If you're in state, what were your stats? Or what do you think made you stand out to UCLA? Please impart some advice to someone trying to be as successful as you all :sorry:

I have a somewhat low GPA (overall: 3.4, sGPA: low, but will heavily improve with post bacc) but huge upwards trend from my junior/senior of college, and I'm starting a post bacc in January. I am also taking my DAT in January!
Congrats on getting accepted everyone!

I asked about this (patient pool) on SDN the other day. I didn't get many responses, but also nobody said that patient availability is an issue. Can you tell me what exactly was asked and said at your interview? I am nervous about the availability of patients. Thanks

i asked the panel and they said they dont have trouble finding patients. They started doing local clinic rotations around LA which has helped them get more patients. we would have 8 weeks of this which i think is a pretty good amount. They have a lot of community outreach events also.

@Nappygirl

This was during the inital intro by the dean of student affairs and during my personal interview.
They claimed that these problems were "common among all dental schools"

word for word what I remember. although the community based education should help w/ this. everyone graduates on time, according to my student panel. But of course you want to see lots of patients in clinic to improve skills for general dentistry.

UCLA has been my first choice for a few reasons:
1. Great for keeping your options of specializing open
2. Good patient pool (I spoke to a UCLA grad, and she said patients weren't the problem, but special case patients will go to the individual specialized fields).
3. Low tuition and great help with finding scholarships
4. Location, I want to stay in Los Angeles
5. Great reputation

I could go on and on, because this is my dream school. Anyone who is a student that could add on?

so im assuming the class is basically 95% full?
I wouldn't think so- there are like at least 4 classmates I know personally that interviewed post-Dec, there are probably others that I don't know about but I'd say there is always a chance for an interview, and if you've been interviewed, there is still a chance of being accepted. Waitlisted does not mean rejected.

Hey,

Are there still interviews being sent out?
There will definitely still be interviews sent out!

We began interviewing earlier this year, so I would imagine the number of interviews offered from now on will be significantly less than pre-December.

To me it seems like the only good thing about UCLA compared to other schools is the name and the area. Please tell me if i am wrong. I want to find good reasons to choose this school but i can only think of name and area. :O maybe i dont have enough information

I am still researching UCLA myself, but some benefits about it other than reputation is:
- cheapest school in california (or so the in-state cali residents have told me)
-65% of students accepted to residencies
-reasonably priced graduate student housing nearby with studio options available
-pass/fail system
- many research opportunities
-world renown faculty
-clinical opportunities outside of the clinic at UCLA, which would give us much more experience and less difficulty meeting requirements (I think our class would do 8 weeks of external rotations)
-new curriculum allows for earlier clinical experience and more of it (that's what they claimed the plan was in the interview)
-plans to renovate the clinic in time for us to use it

Did I hear correctly that dental are guaranteed 3 years of student housing on campus? Any idea where most of the dental students live? If there is on campus housing, does anybody know when you have to apply?
