*** The Official UCLA School of Dentistry Class of 2024 Interview/Acceptance Thread ***

I asked about any further coming up or not, the answer is "maybe no b/c the class is full" . So I think it is a soft rejection for all still waiting for interview.

Does that mean no-one from the waitlist would be accepted anymore?

When is the second deposit for UCLA due? Also does anyone know how many people have been accepted so far, and how many people are on the waitlist?

i can only answer part of this, but from my knowledge, all 88 seats in next year's class are filled.

There is no second deposit for the school. I also believe the class is full, but seats could open up all the way through the start of school. No source, just personal opinion

What are the master's degree program to attend for making you a better competitor for the dental schools in California, specially the state schools?

thank you, is this the only program?
I would think any special masters program (SMP) would make you a better candidate, as those contain courses that are more geared toward the professional health field.

When can we expect that the waitlist would start moving?

When is the UCLA deadline for applicants who have accepted multiple offers to make a final decision? Some schools give a deadline to students with multiple offers accepted so that other students can get off the waitlist by March 15th. Is that the case for UCLA as well?

Does anyone know what kind of grants or gift aid (money that you don't have to pay back) that UCLA offers? Do we fill out the Dental Institutional Application Forms so that we can get an estimate on these grants and gift aid?

"We do request that all incoming students have all aid application materials complete and submitted within 20 days after submission of their required admissions deposit or by the priority deadline of March 2, 2020, whichever is later. "
Doesn't that mean you have to turn in the Dental Institutional App forms by then too?

Is anyone able to apply for these grants? Because I thought that UCLA dental school didn't offer any scholarships.

Don't know if we have a deadline - I haven't heard of one?

You can get grants, and yes you have to fill out the Dental Institutional App forms and FAFSA for you and your parents to receive grants. By filling those forms out and adding parental info to FAFSA, you can also receive university loans which are lower-interest than federal loans.
If it helps, my finaid provisional letter already listed the grant amount I was given and I hadn’t submitted those DAIF forms yet if you want to double check there.
If you haven't submitted those forms, I'm pretty sure you won't be able to receive that grant amount anymore. Provisional doesn't mean actual.... And the deadline did pass to submit those forms so I'm not sure if you'd be able to submit them anymore for the 2020-2021 year. I'd call the fin aid office to get more info.

Grants are only offered to those that submit the forms and FAFSA with parental info, but just doing those won't guarantee you'll get them. UCLA does offer scholarships - usually to OOS students to help offset the first year OOS tuition. With the 2023 class and onwards, I believe they started offering scholarships to IS applicants as well. I haven't heard of anyone IS in my class receiving a scholarship.

Is anyone in this thread planning to decline their seat to attend another institution?

UCLA offers really good scholarships. I think the best one is the Dean's scholarship, which is 20-25k per year, and it can be renewed each year as long as you're in good academic standing. They also offer grants based on financial need. Those are given based on your FAFSA application 😉

Hey! Starting UCLA in the fall, I am in state and was granted a 20k scholarship. It does happen! There's plenty of opportunities given, and like what Artist said, grants are given as long as you filled out the forms but nothing is promised 🙁 but definitely have all your docs filled out to give yourself the best chance

Thank you for answering. Do you happen to know the range of the need-based grants? Like, what is the highest need-based grant amount a student could receive a year if he/she demonstrates financial needs from FAFSA, Dental Institutional Application for both students and parents?

Congratulation! Is your scholarship 20k per year for 4 years (80k total for 4 years)?

Do you guys know when can the waitlist students expect to hear back from UCLA?

I think the class is pretty close to being full if not already full, so waitlist students may not hear back unless someone drops their seat. There's a lot of changes going on as spring quarter started yesterday and we're entirely online, so faculty and administration have been working super hard getting us current students situated with the new curriculum and have also been busy making sure the D4s are taken care of, so CO 2024 may be a little further back on their minds 🤐 Stay hopeful though and def don't pester them for updates lol

Oh, editing a user's name in doesn't tag them so I had no idea you tagged me until I read the last few posts back again!

Not sure about the range unfortunately, and people usually don't go around telling others how much they've received lol. But while it may help a bit, it's not like it cuts a significant chunk out of the total cost - you'll still need quite a bit of loans/other help. Another thing is that I'm not quite sure why they need parental info for university aid, as all graduate students are considered independent students so your EFC would be 0 unless you are married I think... So technically we all demonstrate financial need soooooo yeah I don't have a real answer on the range but you could try asking the Financial Aid Office in a few weeks/when things are less crazy!

Any idea if the fall semester will be affected by the current pandemic?
We're on a quarter system, but as of now I think they're scheduling it to continue as planned. Right now they're more worried about summer for us continuing students.

I got accepted off the waitlist last year so there is still hope! I know people from class of 2022 to 2021 who go accepted off the waitlist as well! I'd recommend updating the school about your ECs and grades. Also write them a really good letter of intent! Stay Motivated and keep up the hard work!

I'm an IS student and received scholarship last year!
Hello, I was placed on the waitlist this cycle and am looking to send ucla a letter of intent. I was wondering if you would be willing to share your letter fo intent with me! TIA 🙂
