The Official UCLA waitlist thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Does everyone who says final decision letter on 6/21/2004 mean that they got in? I got my original waitlist letter in April.

YES!! UCLA has been my dream school since this whole thing started! I have been reading this thread religously and I can't believe I actually get to say that I am going to UCLA!

YAAA!! 🙂

CONGRATS!!!

Congrats!

Now, if only the rest of us poor souls can get in too.

A quick, friendly reminder for the three new acceptees: if you know UCLA is the school for you, please drop your other spot today so that the shuffle may continue.

Thank you! Thank you! Where is the waitlist if you don't mind me asking.

has anyone been accepted off the waitlist that was waitlisted before april? i.e. in february or march

For those of you that got pulled off the waitlist: Emeri, Buddha, mrbfour, rockyh7, did you do anything special after your waitlist letters were sent. Update letters, letters of intent, additional LORs...BASICALLY, do you have any advice as how to we can get out of this waitlist hell hole. Sorry, it's been one of those days.

Dude I hear you...have been having those days for the entire past year. I sent a page and a half letter---very specific details like the collaborative aspect of the brain research institute and specific community service activities Id be interested in. I do neuroscience research right now. No additional LORs...sent the LOI like first week of June.

I think my interview is what got me in...went on for like two hours. She even asked me if Id met any cute guys during the interview process since she had met her husband while sitting in the waiting room for a med school interview.

I think my interview clinched it for me too. My also went for two hours and my interviewer was very supportive. He told me at the end of the interview that I would be put on the waitlist because the class was filled (mid April), but that I would probably still get admitted. I sent a long LOI in early June detailing why the school would be a good fit and what I had to offer to the school. I also contacted my interviewer again to thank him and give him a copy of the LOI. No LOR's or update letters. Hope that helps. Good luck to y'all.

Hey,

Just for those interested, I stopped by the admissions office today to turn in an LOI and asked some questions about how the waitlist movement is doing this year compared to last year. She basically said that every year is different so she can't really say anything. But she also said that at this time last year, there was barely any movement at all while this year she says there has been more movement during this time period. So hopefully that will gives us waitlisters something little to cling on to? G'luck to everyone!

No problem there. I dropped my acceptance to USC, and I also was admitted to UCI last wednesday, so I was in the middle of debating those two schools when I got the UCLA acceptance. Both are now free for the taking!! I sure hope someone who really wants to go to those schools gets it!!!

Thanks to everyone!!

In response to BananaSplit...I sent in an LOI in late april after I got waitlisted. I called the office once in late May, but not much other than that. I just did my best to not go insane thinking about it!!

Thanks for all the responses guys! ^_^

I just finished reading the 2002 and 2003 waitlist threads. Gawd, it was depressing.

There were some people who were still waiting until the very last moment...and of them, only one person got in...on the day of orientation.

WOW... 😱

When's the orientation day again?

I think this year it's August 2. Only 5.5 weeks left! Scary.

I must have checked my status webpage more than 7 times today (usually, I try to limit myself to 1/day) and I keep checking this thread too. Let's see if I can single-handedly keep this thread on Page 1 like cammy did with the USC thread. 😀

Are they actually still updating the web status page? or will they not update once they've sent out the "final decision letter" (the first letter that tells you you've been accepted/waitlisted/rejected).

apparently people are getting their status page updated after the 1st time they find out whether they're accepted/waitlisted/rejected.

on the other note, i am with ya bananasplit. i think i check the status page every hour and keep this forum always open on my computer. hahaha. you're not alone. 🙂

i think i'm going crazy....

i feel so honored to have been mentioned...and hope i serve as inspiration to future neurotic sdn'ers....
good luck to you guys....waiting for the status page to change for you guys must be like how we'd wait for grades at ucla....the page with the grades would come up, and you'd scroll down to see the grades (because of course they can't make it so that the grades are the first thing you see)...your heart's pumping, your eyes are wide open, and you scroll down...............down..............and...............nothing...grades aren't in yet...then you check for the fiftieth time, not expecting them to be there, and BAM! they're there..and just when you thought you wouldn't be surprised at their appearance, you are...i figure that's how it'll be for you guys....
good luck :luck: :luck: :luck:

Yikes, second page. It's time for the late morning bump.

Anyone gonna wait till the very last day possible?

Not sure how much longer i can take this for... 🙁

I suppose I will. I don't know what I'm going to do about housing arrangements in Portland though.

When does your school start? Mine starts in less than 4 weeks, and I don't have housing! 😱

Mine starts mid-August.

6 weeks here.
I don't have housing either... But I did find a cheap extended stay hotel ($32 a night for cable, highspeed wireless, maid service, full size fridge, stove, microwave, etc...) that was really nice... especially for the price.

Oh, good idea. I looked that up too for Portland...although if you work it out, it's like ~1000/month...but hey, it's just for a month (hopefully)...still better than finding a place, moving in, then breaking the lease or something.

Morning bump.

Exactly. (if you stay for less than 1 month though, you get hit with hotel taxes. Anything over 1 month, and it's considered ... I guess apartmentish so you don't get hit with the taxes. 😀 ) My last one bedroom apartment was 1000, and that didn't include all those perks. But ya, the thought would be to just be there for a little while without worrying about commitment. Also, the room was bigger than a typical hotel (had the kitchen area!)

Afternoon bump.

LOL.

Whenever I see your name as the last person to post on this thread, I keep on thinking that you got in off the waitlist!

Come on, UCLA! Give us some news! 😴

Thanks for all the bumps, BananaSplit. 😀 But yeah, like Kwanny, I keep thinking you got off the waitlist whenever I see your name last. 😉

I just hope I'll be able to make myself get over UCLA sometime before August 2nd. I don't want to be waiting for a miracle that'll probably never happen for 5 more weeks. 🙁 It's like I can't fully be happy and make plans for next year until I've finally let go of this school, but I just haven't figured out how to do that yet...

Hello all,
I'm glad to hear that there has been at least some waitlist movement. Someone asked what those of us who got off the waitlist did to sway the adcom in our favor. Well... as soon as I received my waitlist letter, I sent in an LOI. About 2 weeks later, I sent in two additional LORs to make a total of 6 all together. I then sent in an update about a week after that. I sent in another update and two days later, I got in. Good luck to you all! I hope that helps. :luck: :luck: :luck: :luck:

Emeri, thanks for the info. Did you mail those letters via snail mail? or were they via email?

kwanny said:

I sent all of them snail mail except for the last one. Best of luck!

Sorry guys, I have been remiss in my bumping duties. It's been nearly three days since I posted on this thread. Sigh, I will never live up to Cammy's dedication/neuroticism. I've been spending some extra time on the UCSD thread. So, I guess the finger twiddling continues...

I am in the process of writing another update letter....but frankly, my life has been sort of uneventful lately. Well, I do fun things that are hardly noteworthy for adcoms. What can I possibly write? "I'm partying every night before I have to become a medical school drone. Please let me in. I am totally responsible when I'm sober. The end."

Life is funny. Last Friday, I went out to lunch with my coworkers and they asked me where I was going to med school and I said "Oregon" for the first time. I used to say "I've been accepted at Oregon, but I'm waiting for a few more schools." Just last week, I had pretty much come to terms with leaving CA and jumping into endless debt...but lo, and behold, I came back from lunch and there was a voicemail from Dr. Rappaport at UCSD. I guess the lesson is "hope for the best, but prepare for the worst." Although getting into any medical school is already an achievement and not a worst-case scenario."

hilariousness bananasplit....

i too think that whenever a post is made on this forum, that someone else has fortunately been taken off the waitlist. i just got tired of telling people that although i might be going to SD, I am still waiting for LA. day by day i am gradually checking the status page with less frequency.

thank goodness though, in a way, that UCLA starts so early. for us waitlisters, we will know for sure by then if we're in or not. i think most schools start at the end of august. but of course, knowing whether we're in or not before may 15th would've been nicer. =)

Just wondering how many of you are also religiously waiting for the status page to update. I know I am... 🙂

Happy Post-Fourth/Fifth of July people! Yay! It's 7:20am and I'm at work! Woohoo!
