For those of you that are in the same boat, what offers do you have at this point and what school will you pick if UCSF does not admit you?

Personally I have Upenn, Pitt, UDM, NYU and Maryland, waiting for decisions from UCSF and Michigan.

I just put a deposit to university of Minnesota. But im still waiting for ucsf. i figured ucsf wont release new acceptances till jan
 
Interview is on 1/22 🙂 Anyone else have a similar date?
 
I hadn't heard anything from the school until recently, just got the email to fill out the supplemental application...is it worth it at this point? I feel like it's so late compared to everyone else. I got the 'received/under review' status at the end of Sept.

They are still conducting interviews for at least a couple more months. If you fill out the secondary then you have a chance at being invited/accepted. If you don't fill it out then you will have 0% chance at being accepted... Your choice
 
Just curious, does UCSF reserve specific interview dates for in-state applicants and other dates for out-of-state applicants?

JW How did you come up with the 90k figure? I tend to live and eat frugally.

I already added the 12.5k/year (Nonresident Supplemental Tuition $12,245.00)

From this website (https://registrar.ucsf.edu/registration/fees/dentistry),
California Resident Total $45,233.00
California Nonresident Total $57,478.00

If equipment and supplies average $7,500/year, then we're looking at
California Resident Total $52,733.00 (x4years = $210,932)
California Nonresident Total $64,978.00 (x4years = $259,912)

Year (duration)(School year total cost)
Dentistry 1 (9 months)($81331) + Dentistry 2 (9 months)($76257) + Dentistry 3 (12 months)($87836) + Dentistry 4 (12 months)($89148) = $334,572 = Total cost of Attendance

This total cost of attendance figure of $334k incorporates a conservative 20-30k cost of living with non-university off-campus apartments. Students living in university-owned, off-campus apartments may have a lower cost of living. This figure also incorporates a $45-49k tuition that represents the IS tuition of $45k rather than the OOS tuition of $57k. For OOS students that gain residency after one year, tack on the extra $12k for D1 tuition and total cost of attendance rises to $350k.

When I had my interview in November I met people from CA and other states, so I don't think they reserve dates for in-state applicants and other dates for out-of-state applicants.
 
For those who had to fly in from the SF Airport, how did you travel to campus? Taxi, Uber, car rental?
 
Uber is extremely convenient in SF. But don't rent a car, you will regret it. parking is limited everywhere, even my hotel didn't have parking...

Uber is always good. You can also save money by taking the public transportation from the airport. You can take BART to Civic Center and the 6 bus line all the way to parnassus. You can also take BART to the Glen Park and the 44 bus, but you would need to walk a little bit. Are you going to the interview right off the plane? because in this case Uber would probably the most comfortable and least stressful option since it takes you straight there.

Hi, I'm an out of state applicant. My dat score is slightly below average and my overall GPA is a little above the minimum requirements. I currently hold over 15 years of dental experience. In early August I received an email stating that my application was received but lacked the minimum requirements and if an exception is made then I will be invited to submit a supplemental application. I got the invite to submit a supplemental app in early December. The website shows me as received and under review at this moment. I'm assuming that I'm in the running for a potential interview. Does this seem normal and likely?
 
I'm from Cali, but declined the offer.
 
Can anyone guess when will the next round of offers come out? Meanwhile, I feel very insecure about what I did in the interview: I did not remember my addsas ID nor my SSN, so for that piece of sheet to fill out, I just wrote my name and signed. Not sure if they would think of it as lack of interest for the school.

Just got back from the interview. 9a-3p. Lots of time for you to ask questions. Fruity breakfast. Presentation by Dean. Q/A with assistant dean. Quick tour guide with D2s. Return for informal lunch with D2. Interview with faculty. Interview with student (D2). Equally weighted. Computer lab to write essay (respond to quote) in 30 min. Easy/relaxed interview. Just have fun, honestly, and get to know the school.

Didn't see this haha assistant dean said we're the 8th of 12 total interviews. We're the first interview in a month. Interviews run up to early February, so it looks like they're doing one interview a week. We get notified of decisions in 2-3 weeks.

Do you know if they finish all interviews before making another round of acceptances or do they accept even before finishing all interviews?

No, interviews run into February. I'll get a decision, likely end of Jan/early Feb

You were the 8th group of interviews or there are only 12 invites total?

There are total 12 groups of interviews 🙂 It seems like each group has around 20-24 people.
 
Did anyone get rejected after the interview? Or they automatically put you in the waitlist if you are not accepted?

Also-- this might just be nothing, but is it normal for UCSF to send an invite three days prior to the actual interview? I thought it was super short notice (to be honest, guessing someone dropped out and I was next in line? 🙂 ) and I was just wondering if that's normal or not. I'm a CA resident if that influences anything.
 
That can't be the case, I'm on the waitlist now and I've put a deposit down at two other schools.
 
James said we could put a deposit down on another school while on the wait list. However, you cannot be accepted off of the wait list if you've matriculated into that dental school (i.e. The classes started already at the other school)!
 
Where else have you guys gotten offers from at this point?
 
Fingers crossed! I hope they let us know whether we are in or not today, I don't wanna wait anymore :caution:
