***The Official UNC Class of 2024 Interview/Acceptance Thread***

Does anyone mind sharing additional info about what to expect logistically on interview day? The schedule just says breakfast at 7:30 and then interviews from 8-1. I just realized though that it doesn’t say where to actually go.. do we just walk in the main doors or should we know specifically where to go? Also, is it expected that we attend the breakfast? I don’t actually care to eat breakfast there, so I don’t want to look rude by not eating but I certainly don’t want to not be there if we should. Thank you so much!!

You should be there at 7:30, and you’ll be fine if you don’t eat. There were some people at my day that didn’t. You’ll spend some time in the atrium in the beginning, so I would just enter through the main doors and walk down to check-in. You’ll have three interviews, a tour, and a couple of presentations through out the day. People’s schedules are different as far as who and when you do interviews. You’ll get your schedule when you check-in with more info.

To those who interviewed today: Did they mention at the interview when they expect to release the next round of decisions?

They did not mention anything. I asked the student who was in charge of my group if he had any idea what we could expect and he said he really didn’t have a clue because it’s been a while since they did a post-December interview. I don’t know how long stuff like that takes but my thought is that they probably stayed and did a lot of work this afternoon and it doesn’t seem unrealistic to hear within a couple weeks

I just creeped on the thread from the 2016/2017 cycle (last time they did post-December interviews). Interviews took place on January 21st and acceptances went out on February 8th that year. So we can probably assume we’ll know within 2 1/2 weeks

Congratulations!! Did they mention if all the acceptances to fill the class we’re given today?
Sorry they didn’t. But 10 OOS turned down their offer prior to the Jan interview; and that’s historically a lot lower than in previous years. So at the time of the Jan interview, it was 22 spots open

Thanks for the info! Are you OOS?

Does anyone know if the class is filled? When rejections/waitlist will go out?

For those who were accepted in January, have any of you received your acceptance packet?

I just received a waitlist email. Does anyone know what this really means? Like the chances of getting in

I was also waitlisted, seems like a handful or so of people get in off the waitlist from what I could tell in the older forums, even with January interviews, so there’s still hope! Those of you who got waitlisted, are you all accepting the spot?

I will be!

I‘m curious, do y’all think that if we got waitlisted, instead of outright rejected, our interview scores were good enough to get in but our stats just weren’t quite there compared to the others?

i don't think that's it. i know a couple of people who got in with lower stats than me from our january interview

I just got the email as well. Did anyone else find it a complicated way of accepting the alternate status? My email put Dr. Reside's signature on top of the line that I was supposed to sign so I had to sign my name next to his...

Interesting. Well I guess we won’t know much until somebody turn down admission. Just a sidenote, thank goodness they sent the waitlist info through email and that we won’t have to physically mail it in this year.

I just saved the email as a PDF and then signed it on my iPad and sent it in, it was annoying though bc the signature line went to the second page and I had to fix that

How did you fix that? I just scanned it back in and emailed it as 2 separate PDF pages because I didn't know how to fix it. Did you not have the other signature already there? It looked like it was meant to be right above Dr. Reside's name but it showed up on top of the line that I was supposed to sign.

for those who have been accepted, when are deposits due?

Well for mine the signature was below Dr. Reside’s so I just used Inspect on Chrome and deleted the upper portion of the letter that was just the emails for me and Ms. Oakes and signature line was back on the first page.

Is there a difference in alternate or waitlist? Or did everyones email say the same thing?

Does everyone who gets interviewed get waitlisted if they didn’t get accepted?

i wouldn't think so.. unc interviews hundreds of students and only has around 80 or so seats i believe, so it'd be weird to have over a hundred students on the waitlist. did you get waitlisted as well?

From previous threads I think the waitlist is around 20 people, maybe more or less.

Yes I was waitlisted but I did not feel that my interview went well and since they didn’t rank the waitlist I assumed everyone who interviewed was waitlisted

I was assuming that too since I haven’t seen anyone say they were rejected with interview.

From what I've heard, not everyone who interviews is waitlisted. Rejections are sent out as well
Yeah I don’t think it would make sense to waitlist everybody that didn’t get accepted outright, that’s odd and also more work for them since they have to re-evaluate all waitlisted individuals when a spot open up.

anyone know how many people typically get accepted off the alternate list?

Last year 4 people posted that they were accepted off the waitlist, ranging in date from 1/22 - 1/29.
The year before that, 2 people, from 3/31 - 5/2.
The year before that, no movement.
The year before that, 1 person on 4/28.
Of course, there could be tons of people accepted off the waitlist who just didn’t post it on the SDN thread. But I’d say that it’s not all that common for people to decline UNC unfortunately.
