***The Official UNC SoD Class of 2021 Thread***

On the supplemental does anyone know what they're looking for in the part that asks you to comment on your performance on the DAT/in your courses? If I'm happy with my score and gpa can I just write a sentence saying I worked hard/am proud of how I did?

I think you're on the right track, @drcrentistdds. I used the section to address a few less-impressive grades and note my improvement in one of the courses I retook.

If your grades and DAT are pretty solid, I think a simple acknowledgement that your hard work and dedication paid off would be plenty to answer this question. Good luck! Are you in-state?

Thanks! And yeah, I'm in state. Ideally I would like to leave this state for dental school but it would be hard/impossible to say no to in state tuition if I get accepted! I've been procrastinating hard on the supplemental, hoping to get it submitted this weekend

I think most folks would agree with your sentiment - turning down in-state tuition is a hard sell. Especially when we have two great options here in our state, you can get a great dental education here for nearly half the price of going out of state for most schools.

Best of luck with your supplemental this weekend!

What are y'all's thoughts on the supplemental questions dealing with things that were covered in AADSAS? For example, "give a summary of your employment history" or "indicate any experiences that would demonstrate your ability to work with your hands." These are pretty explicitly answered in AADSAS, and there's only so many ways to say what you did while working a job, haha. I'm planning on just expanding slightly, but some of the sentences are pretty similar (or mostly the same) to my AADSAS application. Anyone else have any experience with this? Think it looks bad for them to be too similar?

Mine were pretty similar

When I called and asked about the first essay question (why dentistry?) and how it was so similar to the prompt for the PS, she told me that they don't really look at the AADSAS application except for stats and stuff and recommended I just copy and paste my PS for that prompt. So I don't think it looks bad. Although I listed things on AADSAS and that prompt for the hands thing didn't say to "list" while some other essay prompts did for the supplemental. So I wrote a couple paragraphs for the hands one.

Thanks for the insight! So, then: for the questions that ask you to "list," did you explicitly list and not write paragraphs? I'm sort of on the fence, but I feel that paragraphs just make the most sense. More cohesive that way, I would imagine.

Correct, I also asked about this and she said simply listing those were fine. Also just a heads up, when you submit, all the formatting is lost. Like some of my essays were multiple paragraphs, but when I submitted it, they turned out to be just one big block of text. Kind of annoying but I couldn't figure out a way to fix it.

Thanks! I'll probably call to double-check tomorrow - I'll post when I do. And yeah, I took a look at the preview page and it is super annoying. I read somewhere on here that they see the properly formatted version, but I have no idea if that is true. Are you OOS or IS?

Yeah if you don't mind can you ask about that formatting thing too and let me know? And I'm IS. You?

I gave 'em a call today, and they said the formatting on their end is with proper spacing. So I wouldn't worry too much about that! And for anyone else wondering, they said listing or writing in paragraph form for the "list" questions is fine. They also told me that copy and pasting the PS is fine (the woman recommended it, actually). Did you end up just copy and pasting your PS? And I'm OOS, so we'll see how it goes.. haha

Yeah I literally have the exact same answer for that first essay question and my personal statement. Good luck! Haha although IS people still have their work cut out, I know it's super hard OOS.

That's what I'm going to opt for as well haha. This secondary is long enough already anyways... but yeah, definitely an uphill battle. I've got pretty solid stats so we shall see haha. Good luck man!

Not yet 🙁 I'm OOS so this school is a super long shot for me but I'd still love at least an interview from here

Same! I'm OOS as well, but I heard its near impossible to get in as an OOS'er! Let's hope we get interviews! I have no clue when they send them out.

I'm honestly so jealous of NC residents. UNC's a great school

Good luck on getting an interview!

I see that you used bootcamp. How similar was it in the science section of the DAT?
I thought it was very similar. I strongly recommend using that product. But each test is different for everybody. Don't rely on this, but I made this post which shows how some people did on their actual tests compared to bootcamp. There are a few significant sources of error, so don't let it give you a false sense of confidence. Might be interesting to read though http://forums.studentdoctor.net/thr...iting-for-dat-bootcamp-vs-actual-dat.1204698/

Wow thank you!!!! Well what about crack the DAT?

I think DAT destroyer + Chad is the best for the sciences, bootcamp is generally great but too few questions, and crack the DAT is great for PAT but garbage for everything else.

Congrats on the interviews, it sounds like this is a dream school!

Congratulations on the interview invites! Has anyone instate received an invite?

Are we supposed to sign and mail that technical standards form?

Anybody else notice an error in the dates for the interview in their emails? In the first email I got it says that my interview is Saturday, the 10th of September. Then in the confirmation email, the interview invitation attachment letter says Saturday, the 1st of September. So I'm a little confused and assuming it's a mistake since the 1st isn't even a Saturday... thoughts?

Yes, I saw that too! I figured it was just a typo where someone left off the zero in the date. And like you said, the 1st isn't even a Saturday.

I just submitted my supplement and I'm oos. Does anyone know if I need to send the nc resident thing with my money? I'm not claiming residency but don't want any delays.

Where can I find the honor code and waiver form? and yes it is hella longgggg
Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but I kinda remember it being given to you after you submit your supplemental. Like you have to submit it and then you have the forms you have to fill out and send through the mail with your fee payment.

So I was wondering if any of you could answer this question:
So say it's May'16 and I'm wanting to apply to dental school at UNC and ECU for Fall'17 admission. However, I'm currently living in Texas until my year-long masters program in North Carolina starts in June'16. The law in NC for establishing residency is that the applicant must have lived and worked in NC for a year prior to the first day of the TERM being applied for. Hence late August '16-late August'17. And since we are all applying over a year prior to when we plan on attending dental school that creates an awkward 2 or so month grey area. I plan on attending a 1-year SMP or post-bacc (and working) in NC but at the time of dental application this will not have begun and I will still be finishing up my undergrad in Texas.

What do? Insight would be much appreciated. And FYI I'm not pursuing this to rob applicants in North Carolina. My girlfriend has been accepted to PT school at Duke so I want to pursue dental school there and work in the state after graduating dental school.

Did anyone in here get a confirmation that they received your supplement prior to being offered an interview (or not being offered one)?
