Received an interview invite and supplemental application request a few days ago! I'm a re-applicant and the supp. app. seems a little different this year.

Is deferred the same as rejected? Also, how did you find out that your application was deferred?

Congrats on getting the invite from UDM.
When did you send your check and photo to them by the way?

Through email. This is what they said: "Your application materials from the American Dental Education Association have been carefully reviewed, and a decision has been made to defer your application. This means that your application has been placed on hold, and you are not receiving an invitation to interview or complete our supplemental application at this time. Your application has not been denied or cancelled. If active consideration of your file resumes, you will be contacted."

What are you're stats and reaidency

Congrats Krentist123! what were your stats? Are you from Iowa? Good luck everybody.

So I am a non-Iowa resident, after they received my application, this is what I got about a week ago : "...We will review your materials and alert you if we care to advance your application. Thank you for your interest in The University of Iowa. Go Hawks!"

Does this basically mean a rejection? or what does it mean exactly?

Nooo! This email is sent to everyone! It just says that they're reviewing the app. Don't worry 🙂

First Interview 🙂

Got an interview invite yesterday. Had a quick question for you fellow Iowa interviewees: On the supplemental app., when it asks for pre-requisite coursework, should we list everything we have that meets the category, or only the bare minimum that fit? Also, in chronological order of our activities, should it go old to new or new to old?

Got my first interview invite today from Iowa!

Residency: NE
GPA: 3.71 oGPA, 3.63 BCP, 3.64 sGPA
DAT: 21 AA 20 TS 20 PAT

I just put the bare minimum. I am a Zoology major, so obviously I have a ton of biology courses, but I just put down general biology. I think they just want to make sure you have the pre-reqs for the program. For major activities, I just put new to old even though most of them overlap anyways. I never heard anything back that I needed to add more and I filled it out awhile ago so it should be fine!
Perfect. What date did you pick??

I honestly submitted like 6 hours ago. My application hasn't been mailed or anything yet, so I'm not real sure how this happened haha @SirT

Just got an interview:
IA
Complete App: 7/21

According to Iowa it is "received/waiting additional information"

Thoughts?

No clue since they have no specific letter requirements. Are your transcripts in? DAT scores? I would just call them.
Everything is in. I had submitted w/o DAT scores, but i emailed in the unofficial and the official scores have now been in for a long time.

Well I emailed to check to see if all my materials were in, received a reply and was told me they have everything they need.

2 minutes later (literally) I was deferred. Really not sure what to think right now.

STATS:

AA: 27
BIO: 26
GC: 24
OC: 30
QR: 30
RC: 25
PAT: 21

BCP: 3.94

This blows my mind. Your stats are perfect..... maybe OOS is why? I'm OOS too though. Was it a flat out rejection or is it just being placed aside for now?
Deferred... So whatever that means to Iowa. Not a "rejection" but wasn't invited for an interview.

No idea why.

Wow your stats are unreal. That's crazy that they deferred you.

Have you gotten interviews from other schools already? Is it possible you got a sabotage letter or something was wrong with your personal statement? I'm not sure how likely this is either but it could be they don't think you would really go there even if accepted. They might assume you are ivy league bound or at least going to your state school. Regardless, I'm sure you will get multiple acceptances this cycle!

I have not gotten any interviews yet; Iowa has been the first school to send me a deferral/interview invite/rejection etc. I highly doubt it was a sabotage letter and I, along with a couple others, thought my personal statement was pretty good.

"I'm not sure how likely this is either but it could be they don't think you would really go there even if accepted." A few people have actually brought that up, but I find it hard to believe.

My best guess is that they don't like that I am graduating early. I'll have a degree in biology--will just complete it in 3 years instead of 4.

Thanks, though!

Does anyone know for the supplemental app when it asks you to write down the required courses you have taken, for the bio section of that do you just put down the bio courses that give you the 8 credits they require, or should I put down all of the bio courses I have taken? Also, when it asks for total credits, do they want the total credits of just the required courses, or the total credits of every single course I have taken? Thanks!

I put down all classes I had/will have taken that are Biology.

I put down all classes I had/will have taken that are Biology.

Ok thanks! So when it asks for the total credits, does it mean just for those classes that you wrote down on the supplemental (physics, bio, english, chem, orgo), or does it mean i put down my total credits for all my classes I have taken thus far?

I can't remember, is the total credits question listed under each subject?

I had only put down the total credits that I wrote in the supplemental.
