Yeah it is surprisingly long, haha. If you're a former/current Umich student you already have the necessary links I think, because I didn't have to go through the whole process. Also, if you don't mind me asking what school have you decided on?

Hmm... it locked me out. Looks like I'll have to call tomorrow after all!! Hopefully they don't look at me like "Wow, this kid can't even follow instructions, good thing we didn't accept him." Hahaha.

Anyhow, my dream school has been Louisville for a few years now, and I was luckily accepted! Michigan really impressed me on interview day so they were boosted near the top of my list. It would have been a very hard decision if I had been accepted December 1st.

Waitlist #3
School: Michigan
Notification date: 2/10/16
Method of notification: E-mail
Residency: MI
AADSAS mail-out date: 6/25/15
Application complete date: 6/13/15
GPA (science, overall) 3.45 (3.56 without +/-), 3.6 (3.68 without +/-)
DAT (AA/TS/PAT/Reading/any section below a 17): 20/20/22/21/none

Waitlist. Sounds like theres a lot of us. I'm not holding my breath.

I'm almost sure it's ranked, so they already have the order... doubt it, but who knows.

I was wait listed too but then got a call shortly after letting me know someone declined an offer. Pattie offered the spot to me
You should join the Facebook group! The panic of finding a place to live has already sunk in haha

Also wait-listed. I didn't get the e-mail but my portal changed. Was there anything pertinent in the email? Thanks!

Just innocently posting some facts here.
According to ADEA 2014 guidebook:
17.9% of Umich enrollees are Asian, but 30.9% of Umich applicants are Asian
70.7% of Umich enrollees are White, but 48.9% of Umich applicants are White

According to ADEA 2015 guidebook:
12.8% of Umich enrollees are Asian, but 28.6% of Umich applicants are Asian
70.6% of Umich enrollees are White, but 50.0% of Umich applicants are White

I'm not stating that racial discrimination occurs in the Umich application process or there is discrimination towards Asian applicants, for many other factors could be involved in application selection. However, I sure as hope as for how much this University claims to strive for diversity that they live up to it.
While I haven't checked the guidebook, I am willing to bet a similar situation occurs at other schools, not just Michigan. There are many, many high performing Asian-American students who are competing over a limited number of seats.

I slightly recall they said 30-40 and they usually end up taking around 10.

Ugh, let's just be hopeful at this point, I'm hoping the number is 30 and not 40. Also, for anyone reading this, please if you truly don't want to go here and are on the waitlist, decline the spot. Goodluck to us all. I wonder when the next round of deposits are due/when we will start hearing back, does anyone know?

The people who were accepted last Friday have 2 weeks to make their deposit.

Yeah I remember them saying about 10 people martriculate off the waitlist each year, but then you have to take into account the people who will get off and decline the offer, so more than 10 people will get off the waitlist! Trying to stay positive! 🙂

I dont think there was a way for us to count
I was blessed with an acceptance, but after speaking with others in the Facebook group it doesn't sound like 20 spots were given unfortunately but there is still hope y'all!

It's been real quiet in here lately, but I'm assuming it's just the waiting game now. Did anyone not accept the waitlist? I also wonder if the class is full or not..

Anyone have an idea when the deposit deadline is again? That way we can have an idea of when to hear back about the wait list.

This is my dream school for dental!!! Did my undergrad here as well. Applying this year. Congrats to all those who got accepted *GO BLUE*

Mona, RDH

For those who have already paid a deposit there is no second deposit. Just the initial $1500. I cleared this up with admissions a few weeks ago.

Same thing happened in many schools such as u conn, UNE, Marquette, Pittsburgh, Buffalo, Stony Brook, etc. It's sad but true.

Did it have any DAT scores or GPAs of Asian applicants vs White applicants? Did they post the personal statements and LORs for all the world to see? Did they have video recordings of the interviews to see how each applicant did? Unless we know all of these things, we can't judge which applicants of which race are supposedly favored in admissions when it comes to Whites vs Asians. Everything else is pure speculation at this point.

For URM, that is all races other than Asian and White, there is a clear preference in admissions in order to advance the goal of diversity in the field. I'm not here to argue whether it is right/wrong, effective/ineffective, or even discuss the affirmative action topic any further at all. All I'm saying is that for Asians and Whites, who are not targeted by race as preferred dental applicants, we can't speak to their race playing a factor in admissions without knowing what kind of applicants they are, and we can't know what kind of applicants they are unless we sit down and get the view that an adcom does.

Did anyone in this group get into Michigan with a 3.7gpa and a 19AA on the DAT? I have strong EC's, letters, PS, and shadowing and work experience. As well as a little research. I'm OOS. Just trying to gauge my chances.

For those who interviewed last year, any advice on how to prep for the MMI???

I'm probably going to get a lot of heat for this, but does anyone know if you get drug tested prior to starting at UMich? I don't smoke MJ heavily but maybe 2-3 times a month when hanging out with my friends as I don't drink alcohol. I plan on attending UMich this summer.

Is it safe to assume you are still being considered for interview if you didn't get rejected on Dec 1st?

I applied to UMICH for the current cycle this summer. I haven't gotten an interview invite, and I haven't been rejected either, but their interviews end by the end of January. UMICH does not provide much feedback regarding the status of applications. I was wondering if anyone on here knows from previous cycles, if you haven't heard anything this far in the cycle (no interview, no rejection) is it likely you'll be rejected without interview? Does UMICH typically send out rejections to those that are rejected w/o interview later after they've finished all their interviews?

Well I'm off to a great start to my interview tomorrow! I missed my flight at the airport and now my rescheduled flight is arriving to Detroit at midnight. 🙁 here's to being well rested!

Oh no! It's ok. It will only make it a better story to tell when you get accepted!! Chin up and you will laugh about later.
Remember: BIG coffee tomorrow and BIG smile.
