***The Official University of Minnesota Class of 2024 Interview/Acceptance Thread***

I got an interview invite today. Can you guys please help me with what to expect on the interview day, what questions you've been asked and any additional tips?

Good luck with your interview! My interview went smoothly. There a lots of good practice questions on SDN. My interview was a morning one. The day started with a breakfast and an introductory meeting with my fellow interviewers and the Dean of Admissions. Then were the interviews, which were with two staff members, and then there was a tour. Be ready to answer a number of situational questions. I thought it was fairly relaxed though, you can skip questions and return to them. It wasn't too nerve-racking, but then again I don't really mind interviews too much.
Hi! congrats on your interview, I'm glad it went smoothly. Is there a certain question set on SDN that you used to prepare? Any other tips would be appreciate as well!

I didn't use a specific set. If you google the UMN Dental page on SDN you should find a large quantity of questions. There are a lot of repeats, but I'd go through as many as possible. They are all framed in a "tell me about a time when you _________" etc. Just think about your accomplishments and positive experiences: times that you've shown yourself to be ethical, or when you have done more than what was required of you. Some of the best advice I received regarding the questions was that since they all ask you about a time in the past, do your best to answer that portion of the question, then turn your focus onto what you are presently doing that relates to the question. Then try and talk about your future plans, if you can. For example, if asked: "Tell me a time where you helped others", you could talk about some past volunteering that you did. Then you could mention your current involvement in community service, and finally your future plans to assist people in the capacity as a dentist. Try and aim for those kinds of well rounded responses.

Just received an Acceptance email this afternoon!!!!

Interviewed on 1/8!

Cannot wait to start next Fall!

In-stater here...I applied to UMN in October with a lot of hesitation, since that is pretty late in the cycle. Received an interview offer the next week! Interview is in January. So grateful :soexcited: Congrats to everyone who is interviewing this cycle! 🙂
Update: accepted!!!!🙂

Does anyone who has been accepted know how many people are currently in the class list for the new D1 class?

There's 99 people on the list right now so we're about 11 people short if they plan on keeping the class size the same at 110 students.

Just a heads up for those still waiting to hear back
Don't lose hope! Class list currently has 100 students so there are still 10 seats left I believe 🙂

Has anyone OOS received a scholarship? I think I remember hearing that they give in-state tuition scholarships.

does anyone have an updated number of people in the class list?

The facebook group has 110 people but idk how accurate that could be since that also may include current students and accepted students that decided to go elsewhere

100 students have accepted a spot according to the google drive shared with us. So there are still 10 spots that seem to be pending.
But keep in mind...accepted students have the option to not share their name/contact info on the class list. A friend of mine was also accepted but her name is not on the list because she chose to remain anonymous. So, more than 100 students have likely been accepted by now. Also, the class list has not been updated in a while.

Does anyone know when we’ll hear back from the waitlist?

Do you know if everyone makes the waitlist, or will we hear if we’re out on it? Also, any idea how many are on the list?
I’m not sure tbh but I’m assuming there is one... I interviewed before dec 2nd but never heard anything since

Has anyone heard of any recent acceptances or updates about the waitlist? I still haven’t heard anything back since my interview late January

Congrats to those accepted, feel free to DM me if you have any questions about the school.

Same here. They seem to have a lot going on with a new interim dean and coronavirus and all.

I was accepted back in January after my early January interview and I thought I would send a message to all that are still waiting to hear back -- 103 spots are currently taken for the 2024 class and looking back to other years they usually take around 107-109 students. So, going off of past years there are maybe up to 6 spots left!

Hope this gives a little hope to all! Good luck!

According to admissions, the alternate list was formed last month but they don't release the alternates all at once.

Update: There appears to be 3-4 seats left. I'm sure some will hear back and still be part of the c/o 2024! If not though, don't get discouraged. Most people (including yours truly) applied more than once before getting accepted. You will get there future dentists 👍

& Congrats to everyone who got accepted! 🙂 Hope you are all staying well. Can't wait to meet everyone in just a few short months, either on campus or via zoom university 😛 (cause who knows in times like these)

Does Minnesota either accept or WL? Do they reject after interview?

Has anyone recently heard back (whether acceptance or alternate) recently?
