***the official unlv class of 2018 interview/acceptance thread***

Congrats! Can I ask if you received it by email or snail mail? And when was your app complete if you don't mind sharing!
I received it by email and I completed my app around the mid of july.

I interviewed at UNLV on the 22nd of November, anyone know when we are supposed to call the school to find out the status of our acceptance?

***from Frequently Asked Questions*** (http://www.unlv.edu/dental/faq)

What are the prerequisites?
The prerequisites are 1 year (8 semester credits) each of general physics, general biology, general chemistry and organic chemistry - all with labs, plus 1 year of English (6 semester credits) and 1 semester of biochemistry (3 semester credits). It is very highly recommended these courses be completed at the time of application. A minimum of 90 semester credits is also required with no more than 60 earned at a 2-year community/junior college. A grade of “C” or higher must be attained in the prerequisite courses

Since the answer states that "it is very highly recommended these courses be completed at the time of application," you will still be considered (I think) even without the completion of all required classes. However, you most likely will need to complete them prior to matriculation.

***from Application Requirement***(http://www.unlv.edu/dental/app-requirements)

All prerequisite courses and units must be completed by June of the year of you intend to enroll. However, we highly recommend that applicants complete prerequisite courses prior to filing their application or taking the Dental Admission Test.

I just checked their requirement and it says that they require 1 semester of Anatomy and 1 semester of Biochemistry. Is this correct or is what's under their FAQ correct? I didn't realize this and I am getting worried because I haven't taken Anatomy (I graduated already, but have been invited for an interview). I took Physiology though (in my undergrad, anatomy and physiology were separate courses).

Prerequisites
All prerequisite courses and units must be completed by June of the year of you intend to enroll. However, we highly recommend that applicants complete prerequisite courses prior to filing their application or taking the Dental Admission Test.

  • 1 year of General Biology with lab
  • 1 year of General Chemistry with lab
  • 1 year of Organic Chemistry with lab
  • 1 year of General Physics with lab
  • 1 semester or 2 quarters of Human Anatomy
  • 1 semester or 2 quarters of Biochemistry
  • 1 year of English
A minimum of 90 semester units, or the equivalent completed or in progress at an accredited college or university in the United States or Canada. (It is 30 of the 90 semester units must be completed at a four-year institution) are also needed upon application.

I have an interview on Feb 7... is that really late or am I just overreacting?

I'm interviewing on Jan. 31st. Frankly, it doesn't really matter if it's too late or not. If you don't have any acceptances yet, then plan like this is your one shot and prep your butt off. Worrying about when you're interviewing just adds undo stress.

I interviewed Nov. 27th and was told to call the school back on the 15th of Jan. So I called today but was unable to get through, I have left a message but no response still. Has anyone else had any luck getting through to the office?

I just called. Not selected for admissions for now. They said the deadline for those accepted today will be mid-Feb, and then they will be meeting for another selection process the week after that. I guess I'll have to wait more.

Just got through as well, and was not selected... She told me the acceptances went out this morning so I guess they sent out emails or made calls, so if you have yet to hear anything give them a call to find out.

Has anybody been accepted that hasn't taken anatomy yet?

Had an interview here tomorrow but my flight got canceled :/

I had no idea about this anatomy requirement until you mentioned it, I'm in the same boat as you amsaad. Okilito what are you planning on doing?

Do you plan on taking it this coming semester or have you spoken to admissions about it?

I'm not sure if I will attend. If I decide to attend, there is a summer class at UNLV that I will probably take. Other option would be an online class. You should check with Dr. Ancajas to make sure they will accept it. I know they will accept the one from UNE http://www.une.edu/com/online/anatomy/

Thank you for the quick reply! So if you accept, will they let you take the summer course at unlv Undergraduate, before starting at unlv dental?

That's what I understood from it. I've tried contacting them but nobody is answering.

Yes, that is one of Dr. Ancajas' recommendations. Send her an e-mail with your specific question and she will certainly respond.

I received an email yesterday for an interview on feb 7th 😀 i guess there's still hope for me 🙂

Anybody that interviewed on Jan. 17th know when we'll find out about our status?

The admissions secretary said after the 3rd week of February.

I heard back on Thursday.. Should I be expecting an email or packet? Not sure how to pay the deposit.

Those of you that have interviewed already, how is it? I have heard from some that it is a very relaxed day and then I have also heard from others that it is intense. Your thoughts?

I am planning to take UNE's Online Biochemistry as I am missing that prereq, do you know if they accept that?

I have an interview on the 25th, I will be arriving a day earlier though. What should I do lol

Incredibly relaxed. Every aspect. Essay, financial aid, curriculum overview, interview. All very easygoing and fun. Would have been more fun if I wasn't wound so tight, but that's how it is at interviews.

If you can relax, you should go walk the strip, maybe get a drink, or stop at a buffet. When I go to interviews, I like to do my sightseeing afterwards though.

Yeah thanks. I just don't want to spend the whole day in the hotel but at the same time I don't want to end up like Dr. Stu Price.

Interview invite as well from here! Turned it down.

Interview invite today 1/24. Had options for 2/7 and 2/14. Chose 2/14

Is anybody else having the problem of contacting admission office?
I have been calling them all day to schedule interview appointment, but no one answering the phone.

Maybe cause it's a Saturday?

Friday is their busy day cause they're doing interviews all day and I think Friday is a half day for them as well. I'm sure you'll get through easily on Monday.

Interview on 02/07, notified 01/14. Any in-state people interviewing the same day?

Have you guys got any updates regarding anatomy requirement?
it is pretty confusing since the info in FAQ doesn't match with the info under Application Requirement
How do you guys think of UNE online anatomy course?

They require anatomy. I'm currently enrolled at a jc. UNE is expensive if I remember correctly ($1200?) but it's one that they said they accept...

I have also noticed the insanely high course fee at UNE.
would you mind sharing the link for the one you taking.
I am hoping it is not too late already to enrol.
Thank you
