For those who have interviewed here so far (I think this week and last week people started interviewing), can you comment on how the interview was? Was it pretty laid back or kind of tough?
It was very laid back. I wouldn't stress.

Very chill interview. I was there today. Group of 10 people. You start with going around in a circle answering different ice breaker questions like "Why USC?" or "How would your best friend describe you?"

Then you do a mock PBL about a case study. Gives you a good opportunity to see how you feel about the PBL curriculum.

Fun day overall. Financial aid presentation was the best one I've been to yet. Really honest about the REAL cost of dental school and what the looks like for you if you refinance under income based repayment (PAYE and REPAYE).

Awesome! Thank you so much for letting me know! I wish you the best of luck🙂

What group r u in? I wouldn’t consider those questions as icebreaker questions and our atmosphere was very intense. On the PBL session, every time I wanna speak, the one sitting next to me always spoke louder before me and finally I spoke, that guy always critized my answer. Generally I felt very upset about this interview.

Honestly I think you just have to get lucky with your group. If the people in your group are more laid back and less aggressive, I think everyone in the group should do well. However, if you are in a group with 2-3 very dominating people that don't know how to give other people turns to talk (which was the case with my group), it can be difficult to speak up. You really have to get a feel for the type of people in your group. If they are more dominating, you're going to have to fight to speak up. I felt bad for some people in my group because I could tell they wanted to say something, but they didn't feel comfortable trying to speak over the people who were dominating the conversation.

Overall, I really enjoyed the school (especially the campus 😛). Good luck to everyone else! 🙂

I'm sure the facilitators have their standards. They are looking for candidates who can work well in a group, contribute to the group and reject other politely. Criticizing others shouldn't be one of the characteristics that they're looking for. Don't worry too much!! Hope for the best!

So was there a writing portion? Thanks in advance
There is a writing section- it's really easy. You'll find the prompt on the yellow paper in your interview folder that they give you. What you can do is read it ahead of time and think about how you'll answer the question throughout the day until the writing portion. I really enjoyed the group interview, everyone in my group was so easy to talk to. Before we got split into groups, I kind of found the people who were in the same group as me and we introduced ourselves to one another, this really helped us connect and better collaborate during the PBL session. I can't speak for those who were placed in a not-so-great dynamic group, however. I really loved this school, it's my top choice (I know the price tag is HUGE), but it's an investment in my eyes. Good luck to all of you interviewing, and good luck to those who have yet to hear back!

For those of you who already had an interview, did the status on AADSAS change to 'check back on Dec 1st'??? I'm just wondering whether they'll really announce it on the first (since that's what they stated on AADSAS lol). I heard that in the past years they released decisions from Dec 1st-4th. I really want them to announce in on the first otherwise i might go crazy lol

This school costs $517,000. That’s going to be over $700,000 with interest. Insane. :wow:

Mine changed. But I don’t think it means anything.

The admissions rep said they will give out 60 admissions on 12/1 and then release 20-30 more every month after that. They said that not everyone who interviewed before 12/1 will have a firm answer on 12/1.

In 2016, they interviewed 323 people from California and made 159 offers. For out of state, 258 interviewed and 102 offers.

Definitely agree that it depends on the group. There were a couple people who were dominating the dynamic in our group too (I only spoke 4-5 times during the PBL and some people probably spoke 50 times). Although I think this hurts those dominating the conversation more than helps them. Our facilitator said explicitly beforehand that the goal should not be to speak more than everyone else and that this was mostly a chance to see how you feel about the PBL process.

I definitely would not stress about it. Just speak a couple times and your good. USC's sports fight song is "Fight On" after all...

Thank God. I was on the same boat as you. I only waited for the time no one spoke to speak up. More than half ppl in my group were very dominating which made me feel very frustrated. And our facilitators didn’t tell us about if speaking more helps us or not.

Hey everyone!

Is this form we got in our folders titled "Confidential Statement for Sponsored Studies at USC" supposed to be turned in for all students? If so, when/where do we do that?

Thanks!

I believe that was for international students. If you don't fall into that category, then you don't need to worry about it.

Hey guys!!

for those of you who interviewed after Nov. 14th, does your AADSAS status changed to "check back on Dec 1st?" or remained as "invited for interview?"

thanks!!

I interviewed on Nov. 14th and my status is still "invited for interview". Is this true for anyone else who interviewed on Nov. 14th?

I interviewed on the 16th and my "status" has not changed to "check back december 1st."

for those of you who interviewed

On the PDF worksheets, one of the questions is something like "what are your hobbies' and another question is "what are your special interests?' What did yall put for personal interest?? Seems redundant

I put a list of my hobbies, and for special interests I put my interest in brain research and just discussed how I would like to continue doing that, and also how I would want to work with kids. It was really short (like only 3 lines).

I too interviewed on the 14th and mine still says "invited for interview". Did you already fill out the post-interview survey? I did on my phone the day I got it but if I click on the link now it acts like it will let me fill it out again. Does it do this for anyone else??

I interviewed yesterday & received the survey e-mail this morning! It was in my junk for some reason, make sure you check!

Yah I filled out the post-interview survey.

Anyone else who interviewed recently have their status change today?

Is it always check back on Dec 1? I got that updated the night I finished my interview

I interviewed a couple weeks ago and it just changed from invited to interview to check back dec 1st today.

They're only giving 50-60 acceptances and waitlisting most people on Dec 1st then 30 acceptances every month or every other month after apparently. A lot of the students I know that go there heard back March-June. Might be a long wait for most.

Yup I agree with you. I don’t think the status change means anything. Everyone will get that change eventually.

Did everyone receive the email today regarding the interview evaluation? After I got the email, I checked the portal and my status had changed to "check back dec 1st."

I called them today, asking them about the post interview survey that i didn't receive. and after they sent me the survey perhaps to everyone else, my status changed to check back on dec 1st

Does anybody know USC’s method of notifying people of acceptance?

I believe they said they accept people by email. They said they get sent throughout the day so don't worry if you don't hear from them at 12:01! Good luck everyone! 🙂
