Heres how it works. You make the best possible guess as to your score in each section, including the writing sample. When the scores come out, someone bumps this thread and the winner gets the unyielding adoration of all the dorks on SDN. I'll start:

PS: 12
VR: 10
BS: 12

WS: Q

Man dude that's low expectations. Were your diags real bad or something????? Or are you just paranoid????????

sounds just like me. i had a 22 as my highest diag on AAMC 6, around 24 for EK. I have low expectations for my results as well.

damn....I used to be confident! 🙄

I have had another burst of confidence.

I will go with:

PS: 13
BS: 12
VR: 11

that is very reasonable. 🙂

when are you guys going to close the betting? the 15th?

I think we can make a legitimate betting enterprise out of this ordeal. A $1 donation via paypal to an intermediate who holds the money (I would nominate myself but that would introduce a conflict of interest, so perhaps an MCAT Mod...Arsenic perhaps??) will get you in the game. It works as follows:

1) A $1 donation gets you in the game.

2) You post your best and final guess for your score by noon Wednesday (this may change if AAMC releases them earlier). You pick your total score, score in each section AND the writing sample score. And you include your initials (for verification purposes, see below.)

3) In case of ties, you pick the score of one other person on SDN. This person must be amongst a list of about 5 people who we know will post back with their scores. We can pick impartial intermediaries, like myself, GujuDoc, Tank, et.

4) I post final guesses for your score as well as your pick for the tiebreaker score at about 1 pm Wednesday.

5) The winner, whoever they are, must provide as proof a score report to an SDN mod, again Arsenic or EvoDevo, who verify the score and initials (initials are used to prevent you from submitting someone else's score report if it should match your guess.) I think AAMC allows you to send scores directly through Thx. Someone we can all trust will not use the report towards unscrupulous means. Why? Because it would be all to easy to lie about your actual score. I guess this is the only hazy part--you have to entrust your scores to an SDN mod.

So what does the winner get? Well, instead of having the winner get all the money, I think we should donate the money to SDN on his/her behalf. There are at least 20 people who follow this thread regularly, so if at least a handful make the donation, it should be significant.

Suggestions?

Well, if only due to the fact that I want something - anything to happen that feels like progress towards finally learning my score, I'll chip in with my prediction.

Actual Prediction:
PS: 12
VR: 12
BS: 11
WS: S
35S

"Everything came together for me" Scenario:
PS: 13
VR: 13
BS: 13
WS: T
39T (with the possibility that a 14 in PS or VR makes up for a 12 in BS)

PS:
I'd be disappointed to see below a 12, and surprised to see anything more than a 13.
I always scored my best in practice when the test seemed to kick my @ss, and that's certainly how I felt on test day! 😱
VR:
Going into my MCAT prep, I thought this would be my best scoring section, but the fact that I put a lot more time into studying the other sections allowed me to move up more in those two, but also probably prevented me from stretching my VR score to a crazy-high number.
Again, I'd be disappointed to see below a 12, and surprised to see anything more than a 13.
BS:
My most inconsistent section with one 9, two 10s, two 11s and a 13 on my practice tests (11, 10, 9, 13, 11, 10 in the actual order of practice tests taken.)
I'm hoping for more than an 11, but wouldn't be shocked to see a 10. A 9 is probably as likely as anything about a 13.
WS:
Who knows, who cares!

I am probably as likely to end up below my "actual prediction" as above it, but I am keeping it all positive until Thursday... 😀

Right! :scared:

I like the idea.

One suggestion: If we're just going to donate the winnings anyway, why not simply rely on the integrity of the people here to self-report their scores?

Is anyone really going to forge their score report just to have a donation made to SDN in their name? If we really believe that someone would, then I think I'll pass on the competition.

junebuguf said:
Well, I was informed that placing monetary bets violates the SDN Terms of Service. So, I guess so much for that idea. I tried, if anyone has other suggestions...
Is it still a bet if we're donating the "winnings?"

It sounds like more of a fundraising project to me!

Hey, isn't it time for another update from "the house?"

Well, I've been thinking maybe my original prediction was a little too pessimistic. My practice scores ranged from high twenties to mid thirties so I should at least predict something similar, right?

PS 9
VR 11
BS 8
W N

Y'know, only my VS scores were regular in practice, 12-14. However, my BS/PS scores were all over the place, 7-13. I might be the only one, but I didn't feel like I knew all the answers for the VR like I did during practice. It was weird. I wish the damn scores were out already.

This is how it was for the person who I studied with last summer. he got 9's in the science and 12 in Verbal. Verbal was his strong point. Sciences would have been equally high. But he did not put much into studying the science sections.

What's scary is that my background is engineering. My PS was usually within a point or two of my VR. Generally I felt pretty confident about it, too. I think like most people on here, that the PS on test day was much worse than the practice tests. My bio knowledge just sucks, so of course my score would be low there. That, and I am just taking Orgo now. I just really have no clue about my score. Wish I had more confidence.

If you were ranging up to 13, who knows, it may still happen. A 35 or above is still possible. 5 more days to go woohoo!!!!!! YAY!!!!!!!!!

im going to post here regardless of how it turns out. i dont know about everyone else but i feel like, through our mcat agony, we have bonded together somewhat, as cheesy as that sounds.

Shredder said:

I'll probably be too busy weeping inconsolably if I do worse than my prediction.

It would suck hard if I did worse than my prediction, because that would mean I did way worse than any of my practice tests. But if it happens.. ick. It would be very hard to convince myself to take the Aug mcat if I got like a 32. At least if I got like a 25 I'd have no choice.

I had an idea to get people to participate and donate the money to SDN, but, alas, you cant actually bet with real money. I guess this is just gonna have to be for ****s and giggles.

My mom thinks I got a 34. My mom can be kinda witchy sometimes, so I don't know whether to believe her or not. I'd say my score is more around a 28, but I'm hoping for my mom's prediction to be right.

I am posting here come what may. No reason to lie about it. Sadly, I have a dr appt, work and an exam all on Thursday. I hope scores come out early so I can concentrate during my exam. Of course, if I am crying bitterly throughout about my score I probably won't do too well on the test.

Ok, I'll play along...
I've run out of energy to finish off everyone, but I did get through a lot of you! GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE, may we all end up in the "over" category!!! :luck: 😀 :luck:

OVER:
angietron3000 (going with the late push in practice test scores)
place (I'm going with the Kaplan instructor and figuring that you're selling yourself a little short)
dilated (I think you have a little more than a 35 in ya!)
tigress (you'll do better in BS)
junebuguf (I see a 35+ in your future)
Mediculous (feeling bad on test day isn't necessarily a bad thing...)
chaeymaey (I see a better PS score)
hoberto (I think you're being too honest with yourself)
OwnageMobile (tough call, but I've got to show some love to a fellow sailor!)
prettygirl1908 (you'll do way better. And just remember if we meet in the future: I had faith in your intellectual capacity all along (I hear that's good for some bonus points with pretty girls...! )
codliveroil (I don't give a flyin' crap about your score, your screen name is too close to liverotcod for me to bet against you!)
beponychick (can't to math in her dreams, but did well on test day)
shoal (stick with the early confidence!)
Iceageheatwave (Too much calm, you'll be higher than predicted)
lizanne11 (you love prizes, and putting you in my "over" category is as good as I can get for ya!)
SailCrazy (I'm always one for showing love to others, but you've got to go for a little self lovin' every now and then too. I'll include myself in the "over" category as well. Here's hopin'!)

EVEN: -- No cop-outs, I'll say you're wrong one way or the other --

UNDER:
DetectiveChubby (no offense, but my scouts put you at 12,11,12. It's only 1 point, but I'm taking the under.)
MissMonkey (same story as DC, I just have you one point lower)
Turkeyman (the 2 in BS is way high, you're a 3J all the way! 🙂 )
Shredder (too easy to pick against the 99.X percentile)
Cosmosis (sorry, I've got to bet against someone saying that a section was "super easy")
FutureDrKt (Too new a member without any other background info, I guess that means "under")
MDhopeful023 (your lack of confidence rubbed off on me - this is a tough one to call)
shellshock (no 2nd semester of organic puts the smack down)
SeattlePostBatch (too much time spent on gymnastics aerial maneuvers)
Indryd (sorry, the 14 is a tough call to go with)
JDWflash44 (I'm assuming you meant one point higher in each section, which is a little much for my money)

Also, I will be very happy with a 35! 😀

There isn't actually any money on the line so I moved through the list quickly. I elected not to choose any "EVEN" and I couldn't just put everyone as "OVER"... I won't be the least bit surprised if you're closer to 40. Good Luck! :luck:

I was getting 29's on the practice tests given in the kaplan course...stopped studying completely a week before the real test.

Predicting:

BS: 11
PS: 8
VR: 9

WS: N

I'd be glad with a 28N

Haha, thanks SailCrazy! 😀 It's hilarious that you guys are making predictions about people you know nothing about! Guess it's something to do while we all sit here waiting for our judgement day. :scared:

So, junebuguf, you better not have jinxed me by putting me in your "under" category. 😡

By the way, I think I've become addicted to SDN! Someone call for help!!

I had a dream:
PS: 10
VR: 10
BS: 14

I need a dream come true

A god friend of mine guessed my scores exactly, including the breakdown. EXACTLY. It's even more impressive when you consider that I was telling everyone I had scored at least four points under what I actually ended up with.

I took the test twice, first time was a 26. When I was studying for the test the second time my mom asked me what the highest possible score was. I told her it was 45 but that the highest score I had ever heard of from someone I knew at school was 34. This was before I found SDN. Anyways... she said I was going to get a 34, I was like, "Woman, you are crazy! Thats over 90th percentile, I'd be ecstatic if I scored a 30." I ended up getting a 34.... she will never let me live this prediction down.

hahahahaha!!! That's hillarious.

That is soooooooo awesome that your mom's target was right. However, I think it was just luck that she had in guessing that one. But that's really great that you improved by 8 points. It gives people like me hope that there is a chance to improve from a not so high score.

No problem on the confidence vote, you were an easy pick in my book!

I thought about doing that myself. In the end, I picked a score that was sort of the optimisticly realistic.

Who knows. I had a practice test where I originally mis-marked one question wrong in both PS and BS. When I realized that I'd actually gotten the questions right, it moved me up an entire point in each section. There is definitely a certain amount of luck when you're at the top of one range 👎 or the bottom of the next 👍 .

I guess we'll never know, but I hope I got the lowest raw score for each of my sections. I don't want to waste any right anwers on questions that aren't bumping me up into the next 1-15 category!

just think of the best possible score you can get and the worst possible score and you will probably score the avg......

okay, can someone's mom or psychic help me out? my husband predicts that i'll get a 33R (B12 P10 V11) but i think he is just being supportive 🙂. i walked away from the test feeling glad it was done with, but i didn't feel like i bombed it or kicked a$$. i hope i don't have to retake though - two months doesn't seem like enough time to prepare again. good luck to everyone!

I am neither a mom nor a psychic. I predict you will get a 35P. No more, no less. I have never been wrong....about anything.....ever. I state as my credentials the string of powerball numbers that my cousin plays and that have never been right. I did not pick these numbers....I repeat: I DID NOT PICK THESE NUMBERS. Now leave me be, I need to rub my temples and nibble on my Lorna Doones.

lorna doones?!? and you aren't a mom? are you sure? 😛

Wow, well I know at least one person you all won't have to worry about competing with for a seat in medical school! My prediction is (hopefully) an 8 in each section and WS P. I'm okay with it though, maybe I can get into an offshore medical school and meet back up with the rest of you in our residencies! lol 😀 👍

I have been tempted to post in this thread since it started, but my predictions have been vacillating wildly. With hopefully less than 72 hours to go, I've decided that it's time to put up so that I can tell my brain to shut up.

34 Q

Breakdown -- PS: 10 VR: 13 BS: 11

For the over/under folks, my Kaplan/AAMC practice scores ranged from 32-37, averaged 34-35.

That said, I'll be gleeful with anything over a 30 so long as there's no section under a 9.

OK, I'll be the lowbie on here -

I predict:

9 PS
12 VR (Philosophy major, thanks!)
10 BS (too embarrassed to predict that it will be a 9, which is more likely)

These posts that say "I had to guess on 5, so I might only get a 10 are freaking me out!"
