Heres how it works. You make the best possible guess as to your score in each section, including the writing sample. When the scores come out, someone bumps this thread and the winner gets the unyielding adoration of all the dorks on SDN. I'll start:

PS: 12
VR: 10
BS: 12

WS: Q

nah
i meant think of the highest score you yourself can get (think highest practice score in each section)...then think of a worst case scenario for each section...then avg that...do this in a realistic manner...for example 28-36....then avg that to get a 32...

you do this because more than likely you will score higher in some sections than expected and lower in others....more thank likely you will get a score in that ballpark..

if the national average is a 24 how come everyone thinks their scores are in the plus 30 range?

this has been asked before. bc sdn is just better. ppl make predictions based on practice tests too, so its not blind guessing.

from reading this site you would think 80% of people score above 30..however in reality 80% score below 30....i guess this a site where the best come to play...

1) because we are smart
2) because our practice tests say so
😎

Because we are so concerned about doing well on this test we joined a forum about it.

And we are all smart.

As shredder pointed out people base this on diagnostic scores.

Traditionally the past has shown that for every 10 people, 9 will score within the score range. Or at least within 1-3 points of it.

So if you are getting something like 24, 32, 34, 35, 37, 40 as your diag score range, then it is possible to get within that score range.

Or if you are getting something like 27-32 as your score range, it will most likely show that your score is within a point or 2 of that range.

This was true of me, the first time I took it. I was one point higher then my second highest diag score.

Same has also been shown with the good majority of the posters on this board.

Most of the people currently waiting for their scores also had similar ranges as my first example. So if they were getting between 35 and 36's on most of their diags with high scores being a 39, then its quite possible to get a 40 or at least 34+ range.

Remember, however, that the people that generally post their scores are people with good scores. Most with scores they are not liking will not post their scores. So your sample size of good scores vs. mediocore scores is not that representative based on SDN posters.

You are correct that this is where the best come to play. Most people don't post if they don't have the scores they want. However, if you get a 35 plus score, of course you are going to be extatic and want to share with everyone. And of course you'll want to share with people that actually understand how important such a number is vs. someone who might not understand where you are coming from.

I took the test twice, first time was a 26. When I was studying for the test the second time my mom asked me what the highest possible score was. I told her it was 45 but that the highest score I had ever heard of from someone I knew at school was 34. This was before I found SDN. Anyways... she said I was going to get a 34, I was like, "Woman, you are crazy! Thats over 90th percentile, I'd be ecstatic if I scored a 30." I ended up getting a 34.... she will never let me live this prediction down.
Without knowing my prediction (35S), my mom came up with the same number! I gave her my practice test scores and the percentile breakdown of the overall and section scores.

I hope she's right! :luck:

Didn't you see the SDN checkbox when you registered for the MCAT online? 😕

Once you check that box, a pop-up window opens where you enter your SDN username and password. The quality of SDN "regulars" is so well know by the folks at AAMC that they automatically give you a six point bump on the final MCAT score.

Was I not supposed to tell everyone about this?!? :scared:

D@mn! I was afraid that was a secret.

I hope they still give me my bonus! 👍

:luck: GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!!! :luck:

You all deserve a great score. I hope you're very happy an hour from now! 🙂

I'm grabbing a beer and trying to get a little work done between now and then! 😎

i predicted a range of 28-36 as worst and best case scenarios...so i figured 32 would be a safe bet....without knowin this my mom tells me of a dream she had where i had 10.5 on each section (go figure)...so im hoping this 32 will hold...was afraid to jinx myself but whats done is already done...

Oh yeah, I forgot to add here that I started my own "Guess SailCrazy's MCAT score" pool for family and friends.

It was a good way to get them interested enough to figure out what the scores actually mean. I was getting so tired of explaining it over and over...! It is amazing how much individual research on MCAT scores, percentile breakdown, etc. someone will do for a $2 bet.

This chart definitely reflects the "we have faith in you" sentiment, but I'll take their average!!! 😀

Good Luck everyone! :luck:

Here is my family/friends guess breakdown - talk about high expectations! 😱

PS VR BS WS TOTAL

I am neither a mom nor a psychic. I predict you will get a 35P. No more, no less. I have never been wrong....about anything.....ever. I state as my credentials the string of powerball numbers that my cousin plays and that have never been right. I did not pick these numbers....I repeat: I DID NOT PICK THESE NUMBERS. Now leave me be, I need to rub my temples and nibble on my Lorna Doones.

holy $hit, i don't know how you did it, but i got a V11, P12, B12 R (you were a little off on the writing) . . . thanks for the karma! god, i'd go get a drink now, except that i am at work 🙁. hope everyone else is receiving good news.

13/12/14. Rarely am I so glad to not know what the f*** I'm talking about. I was going to sell my mcat books but now I feel vaguely superstitious about the luck they brought - I may burn them in a pagan rite or something.

I ended up with 12/10/10 P...the same total score...I'm glad I was realistic with my guess 🙂 (totally the opposite of how I felt coming out of the test though, I thought PS was horrible)

Okay. Well on the practices I was getting 10 13 12
here is my prediction

PS - 10 (9-10)
VR - 14 (13-15)
BS - 9 (8-9)

WS - R

form FM, with orgo from hell (5 passages!)

Well, here's reality:

PS - 9
VR - 13
BS - 12

WS - P

Pissed at PS and slightly at WS (I don't care, it doesn't matter). Very surprised by BS. Strangely, I'm slightly bummed about my VR score, because I really thought I knew all those answers. Not that a 13 is anything to shake my fist at 😛

Guess I didn't win! But my total was in the right ballpark.

It seems everyone here is predicting their score based on their AMCAS practice tests. Does that mean u guys had consistent scores? I was all over the board! on 6r i got P:13 v:10 b:11 but i had to guess blindly on like 5 questions for PS. on test 7 i didnt guess any on PS and ended with a 10. and then my bs score went from anywhere between 10-14. with this ginormous range in mind, i have 3 estimates of my score, considering test form BG annihilated me in PS:

treat all my friends to house of prime rib score because i am the luckiest bastard alive:
P: 11
v:12
b:13

non-inflated/deflated score:
P: 10
v: 10
b: 12

i will never eat a prime rib again worst case scenario score:
P: 9
V: 9
b: 11

oh god, i feel like am going to barf. why did i ever make these stupid predictions. please please i love prime rib.

P: 11
V: 10
B: 11
W: P

sigh. stupid average prediction. i feel sooo... neutral. i thought i rocked bio. the strongest feeling of neutrality i've ever had.

I really want a 35.

PS: 13

36N !!!!!!!

BS: 12 (normally my strongest section)

VR 10
BS 11
WS O
Total: 31 O

Hmm, well I was ever-so-slightly-off on every individual section and the total score. Exactly +1 or -1 on everything.

I'm pretty darn close to the "Everything came together" prediction. 🙂

Ironically, my "who knows, who cares" writing sample prediciton was also quite appropriate. (Don't know what happened there, Kaplan said I was getting Rs and Ss.)
Anyway: 13 13 12 38O
I'm a happy camper! 😀
SailCrazy said:
Actual Prediction:
PS: 12
VR: 12
BS: 11
WS: S
35S

"Everything came together for me" Scenario:
PS: 13
VR: 13
BS: 13
WS: T
39T (with the possibility that a 14 in PS or VR makes up for a 12 in BS)

PS:
I'd be disappointed to see below a 12, and surprised to see anything more than a 13.
I always scored my best in practice when the test seemed to kick my @ss, and that's certainly how I felt on test day! 😱
VR:
Going into my MCAT prep, I thought this would be my best scoring section, but the fact that I put a lot more time into studying the other sections allowed me to move up more in those two, but also probably prevented me from stretching my VR score to a crazy-high number.
Again, I'd be disappointed to see below a 12, and surprised to see anything more than a 13.
BS:
My most inconsistent section with one 9, two 10s, two 11s and a 13 on my practice tests (11, 10, 9, 13, 11, 10 in the actual order of practice tests taken.)
I'm hoping for more than an 11, but wouldn't be shocked to see a 10. A 9 is probably as likely as anything about a 13.
WS:
Who knows, who cares!

I am probably as likely to end up below my "actual prediction" as above it, but I am keeping it all positive until Thursday... 😀

Right! :scared:

Damn all the winners are too close and tied. We need to figure out how to give all the winners something...........

NEVERMIND WE ALREADY GOT OUR PRESENTS............GREAT JOB, NOW LET YOUR NEUROSES BE DIRECTED TOWARD AMCAS and INTERVIEWS.
