The Under M1 Club, Part II - COME ON IN!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I got to visit Northwestern Med /next to feinberg yesterday for my crohn's.

It was pretty depressing. I got to see some students yesterday and just got to feeling that could have been me.

waaaaaa! 🙁

Hey people!
what's up?!

Good that I am still breathing!!!!are you?
I have a physiology and cell biology midterm on monday. Urggrr... though just after a week of class.... WTH

I am feeling the pressure.... got to go get more chocolate.....😀

Hey agent, being a nurse is a noble thing. Sometimes I think that they actually have a tougher job than doctors do in my experience in working with them. Don't let stuff like other people getting into medical school get you down. You did what was best for your family, and you have my deepest respect for that, because it's not an easy thing to do

Hermeone - I know the feeling 😛 I barely have any time left to do fun things anymore. In fact, it's been six weeks already for my semester set already.

You know, it's pretty funny how early my major department begins advising. It makes me think gosh, this semester is going by ridiculously fast! 😱 I mean, the advising begins next week on October 6th. Geez, huh? Well, I'll just mosey over to my advisor and explain my next planned barrage of classes in addition to my experiences in philosophy 😀

Nothing worth reporting for now...except maybe that I have tons of homework to do for lab, but at least I got one bit of it done. That was not a pleasant experience either, because I had to go to the library to do some research in finding Biological Abstracts from 1965! Now in 1965, with the subject I was sent to find the info on, it was not easy to find it, and it took me a good two hours to find the right subject line and then another good hour and a half to actually find the article 😡 Did I mention that I had to go all the way down to the library's basement to the "compact stacks" section? It's called "compact stacks" because it's very very narrow and claustrophobic. My lab TA better appreciate the work that I had to put in to find the stupid article.

Rant over. Have a good one, everyone! 🙂

Hey all! 🙂

I got an A on my physics exam from a couple weeks ago!! 😀 I was totally and completely shocked. I got that last problem totally wrong and yet he still gave me 35 of the 50 pts that it was worth (I drew the pic right anyway hehe) and then I only missed 2 of the MC!

Unfortunately my orgo quiz didn't go as well lol. I know for sure that I missed 5 pts but I did get the 2 pt bonus question so we'll see what happens. I forgot to look at our powerpoints from that chapter and so I couldn't remember some of the nomenclature/structures when given common names of things. I think I did better than last time tho so that's an improvement 🙂.

I also didn't do great on the last physics lab report I turned in....I had been getting 95 or 100 on all of them but this one I got an 80🙁 . One of her comments was that some of the stuff I put in my conclusion should have been in the results section, but according to our "guide" for lab reports all questions asked in the lab are supposed to be in the conclusion so that's what I did. Oh well....no biggie.

Then my orgo lab today was a disaster. I didn't get any product to run a refractive index and IR on 🙁. It all boiled away 😡. But the lab staff kind of expected some people to not get any product so they ran some IRs yesterday for those of us who totally f$%$ed up lol. That's the first time ever something has ever gone soo wrong for me in lab lol. Oh well....I can still write a good lab report for it lol.

Physics lab also took longer than usual today so I didn't get a chance to go to the KCOM meeting. I'll catch them next time tho I'm sure.

lilithny - congrats on your anatomy exam!

jenni - told ya going easy in dissection would be helpful in the long run hehe....I did a monster foot/lower leg dissection last year that got compliments from all of the lab instructors. I was on cloud 9 for about a week hehe 🙂.

Vix - I hate chair diagrams too! lol....although Newman projections are even worse hehe.

Cozmosis - I think everyone makes stupid mistakes in orgo lol. I was talking to some of the upper class guys yesterday and they asked me how orgo was going and I was like fine if I could just stop making the stupidest mistakes lol. They were like welcome to the land of orgo hehe. If you only missed those two tho you'll be in great shape!

aww...Agent hang in there. You made the right decision for your situation, and while it may still sting at times in the long run it'll be a good thing 🙂.

Biodude - Ok library research for cell bio is just stupid. That's what our research methods class is for lol, and even then we haven't had to do any physical research ourselves yet. At least you get to figure out your schedule at a decent time...halfway through a semester. We have to wait til like mid Nov just to get our spring schedules and then registration doesn't start til the beginning of Dec! I don't think I've ever been anywhere that waited soo long to release schedules. I want to figure my spring out already! lol.

I don't really have anything I need to do studywise tonite thankfully...I have to recopy my physics homework but that'll take all of 20 minutes maybe lol. Then I think I'll read my orgo chapter since I'm like a chapter behind hehe. We started chapter 6 today and I still have to read Ch 5 and work the problems for that chapter. Sun i'll be studying for my cell bio exam Monday but other than that I don't have anything pressing to do this weekend so I'll be able to get completely caught up in everything again and have some fun 🙂.

Have a good one all!

Skaterbabe-Congrats on the physics exam! I hope your other stuff winds up OK-does your lab prof still give you a good grade if you screw up the lab but do your writeup well?

Biodude-I'm sorry to hear about your stress-believe me, I can empathize😀 I'm having the same kind of experience with some research I'm doing for an extra credit chem project....

agent-I second (well, third) Biodude and Skaterbabe-you've done the right thing for you and that's what counts! BTW-my aunt and uncle both have crohn's-it's an awful disease-I feel for you!

hermeone-yeah, chocolate rules (except in my case Wednesday night I was so stressed nothing but a couple beers would do😛 ) Sometimes I wonder why I'm doing this to myself....but it'll all be worth it in the end...you'll get there!

Cozmosis-I did the same thing in my first pre-calc exam but somehow still managed to get awarded 3 points out of 7 for trying...hopefully your prof will give partial credit for ya😀 It still sucks, tho, I know...

Now, finally, today, I can relax. I've got an anatomy quiz this morning and then I can chill out. I'm taking the rest of today as family time with the kids and my hubby-we've decided that it's time to go visit the humane society to find a new dog. We still miss Fletcher an awful lot, but we've gotten to the point where we feel we can love another dog without being constantly reminded of him, tho he'll always be in our hearts😍 Then the weekend is going to be solid studying....gotta conquer complex numbers, linear regression, and quadratic equations and inequalities for an exam next week....😡

Thanks guys (and girls) 😉

I really appreciate it LOL

Gosh Agent, I can totally relate to that feeling... you know, always that little twinge in the back of my mind - the one that seems to resurface an a regular basis, leaving me always wondering if I'm making the right decision. Having a brother who's a doctor (and seeing him on a regular basis) doesn't make it any easier...

I'm sorry I don't have any words of wisdom to offer, just know that you're not the only one who struggles with those kind of thoughts... hope you find some reassurance in your chosen path, one way or another. 🙂

Skaterbabe- congrats on your test

And speaking of tests, I had a stats exam yesterday... doh! For the first five minutes my mind was totally not working- I was punching out 30 random intervals for the first question, but when I looked back at what it was asking, I noticed it just asked for the first 5!! 😱 😱

Just had an A&P exam this morning. I think it went well... none of that silliness from yesterday! I was assuming the worst, and then I got the test- woooosh! not bad at all. There were maybe 3-4 that I was questionable about, but eh, it's done, it's over with. Better just suck it up and prepare myself for the next one.

I'm in serious need of a de-stresser. Hoorah that we have Monday off. I can finally catch up on my sleep 😍

Just finished Physics exam #2. I actually studied for this one -- 5 hours to be exact. It was pretty similar to the practice exams, except the 2 or 3 problems I couldn't figure out and didn't figure would show up on the exam, all were on the exam. 🙄

I made a B on the last exam without studying. Let's see how I do on this one. If I get a B or, God forbid, a C, I will be incredibly super pissed.

JKD-Ahhh...I know all too well the dangers of thinking something won't show up on an exam...I hope you did well, tho😀 doesn't it just kill you when you study like crazy and get tripped up by that stuff?

So I got my Orgo test back, and I got a 90. I'm really really happy, because I should have gotten an 80.

My Orgo teacher is really cool, and he may have hooked me up for a couple points. Now my only worry is that I hope I didn't screw up my analytical lab!

Coz-- congrats on your orgo test! That's awesome! I wish my orgo teacher would let some points slide on our exams-- but he's soooo picky.

JKMed-- I'm sure you did fine on your phys exam.

Skaterbabe-- congrats on your orgo test! Agreed, Newman projections are alot worse than chair diagrams. I can't visualize them well at all. With or without the model kit.

Yeah, well I've got to go pick up my pager-- this is my first weekend on duty. Of course, no one is here (since its a long weekend), but I'm sure someone decided to stay behind to get drunk and pass out or have an asthma attack on my watch.

I've been doing organic most of the day, and I still haven't made it through the chapter 😡 . But I'm working at a pace at which I actually understand everything the first time around, and get all of the problems right on the first try. I'm going to attempt the same for physics sunday.

I'm presenting tomorrow morning at our research symposium (hoping I won't have to stay up toooo late tonight). I'm not nervous at all. I'm just afraid of my professors showing up and asking me awkward questions. Its been awhile since I've been over this stuff, so I'm going to do a few dry runs before I go to bed tonight.

Have a great weekend, all!

Yeah, I should go ahead and declare my major officially.

Hey all!

Hope everyone is having a good weekend!

jenni - Honestly I don't know if she would or not. I mean I assume I'd lose a few points for not having a refractive index but I don't think I'd lose too many points. I think I may try to rerun the experiment in my work lab tomorrow afternoon so that I can get all the info I need, but if I don't get a chance to redo it I'm not gonna worry about it too much. If I couldn't explain what happened that would be one thing, but I can, and I have the majority of the info I'd need (the IR spec) to get to the "correct" conclusions, and the published refractive index for the product. Supposedly they aren't supposed to take a ton off for messing up providing you can explain what happened. I identified the wrong compound in one of my other labs and still got a 22/25 on it so I imagine this one would end up somewhere around the same.

Good luck on your precalc exam this week!

lilithny - Well at least you caught yourself on your stats exam lol. Who knows...if you left the data on their maybe your prof will give u an extra point for effort hehe. And congrats on your anatomy exam. I loved when I was able to walk out of those confident that I only missed a few things hehe.

JKD - even with those few questions you assumed wouldn't show up I'm sure you did fine on your exam. For the most part studying does actually pay off lol.

Cozmosis - Congrats on your orgo exam! I'll keep my fingers crossed that you didn't mess up analytical!

Vix - Actually it was my physics exam. I wish I was doing that well in orgo lol. Actually I'll be satisfied if I can manage at least an 85 (an A- for us), although I won't be super disappointed with a B...at least our mean for the class is finally coming down. For awhile I thought I was in a class of geniuses lol.

I spent most of yesterday working on orgo myself, but I wasn't exactly doing effective studying since I was watching the TX/Kansas game hehe and got going late. Today I'll hopefully finish the chapter I was working on, read the next chapter, read a short chapter in research methods, and then spend the majority of my day studying for a cell bio exam tomorrow. (I'll also have an hour-hour and a half tomorrow to study for it too). I'm not too worried about this one. It's just a matter of going thru the study sheet with my notes from lecture. Our exams for that are drawing diagrams and one sentence answers...no essays so it's not too bad.

Have a good one!

Tonight I plan on watching football and playoff baseball, and doing nothing else because my lab report is due Wednesday in Orgo instead of tomorrow. I managed to get my work hours changed, so I'll be at school from 11-10 tomorrow, but I can now go from 9:30-2 on Tuesdays, except for the analytical lab I have to go to now every Tues because it is IMPOSSIBLE to get it done one day a week.

In orgo we've been learning stuff like chair structures, newman projections(spent very little time on), and E/Z naming method. No idea what we'll be starting soon, reactions will probably sneak up on me.

I officially changed my minor to music Friday. It sucks when you finally realize what you want to do, but only after it's too late. I still would have loved to be a physics or music major, but oh well.

It seems a nice opportunity has been presented to me. My church has a tutoring service every Wednesday evening for students of the local elementary/middle/high school. I once tutored some students in my inorganic II class and enjoyed teaching, so I may take advantage of this opporunity. Sure beats standing around at the hospital.

Anyways, hope things are going well for everyone.

Hey all!

Ouch Cozmosis! I hope switching your schedule pays off in the end. 11-10 days totally suck lol.

JKD - Congrats on officially changing your minor. Tutoring kids sounds like a great opportunity! Definitely sounds better than your hospital experiences lol.

Today I had my cell bio exam. I think it went really well. I may have missed a couple points here and there but not too many. I haven't seen my orgo quiz yet but apparently I sucked wind on it. It looks like I only got 13/25🙁 . On the other hand I knew walking out of it that I didn't really study the right stuff so I'll just put more effort into it for the exam. I'm disappointed but it was my own fault, and I still have plenty of time to make up for it. We still have 2 quizzes, 3 exams, and a final left lol....plus homeworks and clicker questions.

I tried redoing my orgo experiment today but this time I didn't even get enough product to distill it so I'll try once more tomorrow. If it still doesn't work out I'll just use the data I already have.

Tonite I'm going to read my research methods chapter that I never got to yesterday, and my physics chapter, and then start reading my orgo chapter.

Have a good one!

Jessica: tutoring kids/teens is certainly more lucrative than standing around waiting to go home. However, I have no idea how I will manage to gain clinical experience without it due to below.

My school suspended its shadowing program because of difficulties with the new HIPAA regulations. It seems nobody has been able to find someone to shadow because of it. This sort of makes "clinical experience" and a "DO letter" incredibly difficult to get.

Anyways, things are going ok I guess. Trying to find where I'll get the money to buy a new sax, without reaching up my posterior orifice.

To all CA pre-meds (I'm one too) who tune into this thread or on SDN in general:

So, it looks like Arnie is the new governor! Who did y'all vote for? 😀

Thoughts?

Well, I'm off to study for my classes and do some homework. I've got exam after exam coming up this week.

Today I caught up my analytical notebook. We finished addition of alkene reactions today. We also went over a bunch of IR analyses, and ran an IR on an unknown. Tomorrow I have analytical, in which I hope we actually do some chemistry, then the lab, when I finish up the 2nd part of a chloride analysis. Then I have economics. Will be a long day. 😳

Ya know, I didn't even know that Arnold Schwarzenegger was elected until i got online this morning and saw the MSN headline...I've been that swamped! I even missed Resident Life on Monday night (tho I did take a break and watch Trading Spaces 100 grand on Sunday)

Warning:Rant....

So Tuesday night I and several other students spent half the night together cracking our heads over a Chem take-home quiz that was due yesterday morning b/c we were all having trouble with it individually. I spent the other half trying to study for a pre-calc exam which I took yesterday at 1:00. So we get to Chem in the morning with our quizzes all done and in agreement and the prof says that he decided not to make it due until Friday 😡 So I go to take my math exam and well...I have no clue how I did. I had some sort of idea what to do with each question and arrived at some sort of reasonable answer but I didn't know what I was doing well enough to know whether I did it the right way or not...I so could've used the extra time to study!

OK, rant over...

The next two weeks are going to be he!!ish..we're starting to get into midterms and our anatomy prof scheduled several extra credit night sessions with our cadaver that I need to go to. So I prolly won't be around much until I get this over with.

BTW, my husband and I made the decision last night that we're going on vacation over spring break:clap: Not the typical wild party vacation, we want to find a more laid-back couples-type resort. Anyone know of any good places somewhere in the Caribbean or Mexico that are relatively cheap? so now I have that thought to hold in my head to get me through this!

Hope the rest of you are dealing with the stress OK😀

Hey all -

This has been a long bad week for me academically. Not that I did bad on any exams or anything, just not getting anywhere studywise. Then today I picked up a flu bug (fingers crossed it's only 24 hrs) so I had to miss labs today 🙁. Not sure what'll happen with those yet, have emails in to my TA's to find out. Hope things are going better for everyone else!

jenni - I hate when profs do that at the last minute like that lol. I'm sure you'll do fine on your precalc exam tho with partial credit 🙂.

I don't know how cheap this idea would be, but the Sandals resorts are all-inclusive so you don't have to worry about food/drink or even some activities so they may balance out price-wise. They are supposed to be awesome resorts too....better than the club med's. I can imagine you'll be able to find some great online packages tho...just start visiting travel sites 🙂.

I'm gonna try to get a lil work done...later all

Hey all!

This past week has been amazing. I got out of my depressed mood, for whatever reason, and completely turned everything around. I had been making B's and C's so far this semester, but now I'm making high 90's on everything! Maybe I can turn this semester around after all.

I'm also buying two new saxophones for my music minor. (maybe that's why I'm not depressed any more). A curved soprano and a cool tenor. Had to lay down some bones, but they're worth it I think. Gonna try to get to playing solos and stuff around the local churches again, probably even do a concert in the summer for the Revival. Hope they all like jazz gospel 🙂

I'm also officially ENGAGED! Yep, took care of that business this week too. I hope things continue like this. I only have ONE SEMESTER of science/premed junk left. After the Spring semester, I can take the last of my major courses in the summer. Then starting in the fall all I have left are music courses and like two history classes. Should be smooth sailing if everything goes well this year.

Peace.

JKD

JKMEd-- Congrats on your engagement!

This week has been... different. I think I blew my genetics test today. I know I didn't fail, but I'm pretty sure I didn't ace it. I'll be studying all weekend. I have to take a takehome envirotox exam at some point in the next day or two.

Anyway, my financial situation isn't much better. I got a small additional grant from the federal gov't ($300), but nothing at all from my school so far. Its going to really suck if I end up not getting credit for this semester because of a couple grand. In the meantime, I've been working about 20 hours/week (which is as much as I can squeeze in on campus), and I still won't make enough this semester to pay off my bill for this and next semester.

I'm already looking into transferring, but most of the state schools (that I can afford without scholarship) won't accept most of the credits that I have already earned. Even so, I'd be behind in pretty much any major that I'd choose to pursue because of the differences in major requirements.

Anyway, thats my rant for the week. I'm gonna go do something productive.

JKD, you should have bought my tenor. Brand new Yamaha YTS 62 🙂
Finally finished the constant experiment in Analytical. 3 down, 6 to go. I should finish #4 next week. Joy.

Congrats to you Jk! 🙂

I see everyone is still pretty busy. I know what you mean Vixnell. My FA has been a pain. I am taking out a loan for next semester. I plan to register early so I can get my top pick of classes this time.

I think I'm just about ready to move on to more challenging courses. I see most of you are already taking Orgo. I haven't taken Gen Chemistry yet. I hope that I can sign up for the class next semester. If not, I don't know if I'll be able to apply with all of you.🙁

I was also considering changing my major 🙁 because there are soooo many labs in Micro, I will probably wind up with 4 labs in at least one semester, trying to finish classes by the time I have set for myself (Spring 2006). Do you think the 4 labs will be suicide if I have them spread out 2 a day? I don't plan to work, just go to school. I don't know, I really like the Micro plan. 😕

Hey all!

Congrats on your engagement JKD!!! and congrats and beating your bad mood!

Vix - Sorry to hear that your genetics test didn't go so well and that you're having a rough time. Hang in there...it'll work out in the end somehow 🙂

2badr - I don't think 4 labs is suicide, but it'll take careful planning. It will all depend on what the labs are and what the format of the write-ups are. If you have labs that require u to word process everything you'll have to be very familiar with your programs and be able to do tables and stuff at the drop of a hat. On the other hand, if your write ups are just filling in the blanks in some lab book that's easy (which gen chem was at my school). I've got 2 labs on the same day that require we us to word process everything, and I wasn't all that familiar with making tables or using chemdraw before this semester so it's taken me awhile to get things going, but now they aren't taking me nearly as long as they were at the beginning of the semester lol. I think without working you'll be fine. Definitely try and spread the 2 days you have labs out by a couple days tho so you have time to do the write ups...

For what it's worth I'm planning on taking 4 labs in the spring as well.....physics II, orgo II, bacteriology, and genetics and working for Dr Schoffstall still.

Speaking of labs, I can turn in both of my reports from last week on Monday. We get to drop one lab for physics so that's what i'll do about missing this week's lab, and I can make up the orgo lab whenever....will look at when orgo labs are over the weekend and set it up for sometime next week.

My research methods prof finally finished grading our exams...I got exactly the mean lol...121/200...85.5%....which is fine cuz homework counts for quite a bit in there, but an A is a 93 for this class. My weekend will be spent figuring out organic. We have our second exam next week, along with our second physics exam.
I think I'm understanding orgo ok, but I definitely need to practice a lot this weekend...have to make up for that quiz i nearly bombed lol.

Have a good weekend all!
--Jessica, UCCS

Hi!!

Thank you for the reply, skaterbabe. I really appreciate it. I just don't want to get in over my head and then miss taking the classes I need to do well the MCAT!! 😱

Hey all! 🙂

I'm in a much better mood this week lol. I didn't do great on my cell bio exam (a 79) but with the 7.5 points EC I have that makes it an 86.5...I'll have to get 93's on the last 2 exams, but now that I know what to expect I'm not super worried.

I also may have found a way into some pretty awesome MD schools. A good 20 or so universities with med schools have club level collegiate figure skating as a sport. Having been a competitive figurer skater I'd love to find a way to reintegrate skating into my life but it's just too expensive to train. However, most of these schools offer free ice time (some even free lessons) to their club members. While I'm currently at the lower levels of ability for these clubs I know how quickly I was progressing when I moved to Colorado to train in the first place. Maybe, just maybe, I can get an interview at some of these schools and convince them to let me come skate there and study medicine 🙂. Some only have synchronized skating (the Rockettes on Ice basically lol), but I did a ton of synchronized while growing up so I think I could easily make one of those teams. One of these weekends I'll have to start checking out these schools and see what all i'd have to do to get into some of them lol.

Tonite I need to finish my physics write up to turn in tomorrow, and my orgo prelabs for my make up lab from last week (which I'm going to do tomorrow afternoon between physics lecture and the ACS meeting), and this Thursday's lab. I also need to do my physics homework (only 8 problems tho) that is due tomorrow but I may just wait and go in tomorrow morning to do it in the SLC. I want to concentrate tomorrow and Wed on studying for my orgo exam Thurs, but other than that it's a pretty easy week for me thankfully.

Hope everyone's having an ok week!

--Jessica, UCCS

M1 = First year medical student

BUMP 😛

I just finished my environmental toxicology midterm. Yeah. I started around 6. Over 4 hours! I like the whole take-home exam business, but geez. I have other classes!

Other classes. Physics was cancelled today because a tree fell on my professor's car. I wonder how much work the wind did on the tree to cause that much of an impact. For that matter, how much work was done by gravity alone.

Organic is...going. We're starting to pick up the pace, and we have an exam next week. I have a test in physics next week also.

I played hookie during genetics today because I had this really annoying headache. The kind where you're fine for a few minutes, then you get a sudden excruciating surge of pain in your temples. Then repeat for a few hours. Dunno what it was, but alleve did the trick. Genetics lab was ok, we did PCRs, ran some gels, played with drosphila, isolated our own DNA, and still had 30 minutes to spare to finish the lab that was due this week.

Environmental toxicology was a blur due to the aforementioned headache.

Tomorrow is my worst day of the week. Classes from 8 to 5:30. Should be a relative breeze, though, since i've finished most of my work thats due this week.

Ah yes. This weekend is parents' weekend, so my folks are coming to watch my mock ethics bowl debate. Should be interesting.

Yep. Enough of this madness. I'm going to watch some sleazy MTV.

Doh. Its almost 11. Daily Show will suffice.

bump... semester's shifted into high gear, i see.

Hey all!

My second orgo exam is in the books. I really have no idea how I did on it. I studied more for this exam then I think I have ever studied for an exam in my life, but I still think I missed a lot of points here and there. I hope to get at least a B on it, but it depends how many points get taken off for stupid stuff lol. Next time I need to memorize the reactions sooner lol.

Other than that not a lot has been going on lol. I'm taking tonite off and spending it with my bf, but I really haven't done anything in any of my other classes since before I got sick lol. I've got an exam in physics next week, and a homework for that and also research methods to do this weekend, but mostly I just need to catch up on reading.

Vix - yes the semester is definitely in high gear lol. Have fun with your folks this weekend and good luck on your exams next week!

--Jessica, UCCS

Grr.. my organic test has been pushed back a week. Which, ordinarily, I would be thrilled about. BUT that just adds another week of material (I could take the test tomorrow and ace it, but adding new stuff will screw me over). Plus, we're having ANOTHER test the week after. Grrrrr.

My room is a mess. I should clean it before my parents lecture me about how RAs are supposed to be tidy.

Vix - If your prof is pushing back your exam now won't he/she have to push back the exam the following week? Or will it be an exam only on a week's worth of material then? As much as adding in more material for this exam may suck the next one shouldn't be too bad if it doesn't get pushed off too lol.

My mom gave up on trying to get me to keep my room neat by the time I was in hs lol...I always just said it was an "organized mess" hehe.

Today I'm going to make up the orgo lab I missed last week. It's actually a pretty easy one...the acid catalyzed dehydration of an unknown alcohol and then we'll be given the GCMS data for the unknown. We did TLC yesterday which was fun...my unknown ended up being only a single choice out of the 3...no mixtures or anything lol. I also have physics lecture this afternoon. Yesterday he went off on a tangent about the two guys who figured out how to decipher hieroglyphics lol (one of them also invented the expt that proved that light was a wave which we got to from him explaining why electrons are both particles and waves lol). I think I'm going to work on catching up in both physics and cell bio today. I need a break from orgo lol. I'll start in on that tomorrow or Sunday hehe.

Hope everyone has a good weekend!
--Jessica, UCCS

Since we have three tests left in the semester, it would be impossible for him to push back the next. I talked to him about it today, and he says that moving it in the first place probably isnt the best idea (the reason why he wanted to move it was because he was going to be out of town that day for personal reasons). So he might just have one of his majors come in a teach that day. Which would make me happy, and be much better than a week's worth of material on the next exam.

Grrrr.

We got out of EnviroTox early because apparently 3 students were so POed about the lenghtytest that they just didnt show up. Since our class only has 6 people, it would be pointless to carry on without them. I don't have to work today (yay) which gives me more time to clean my room.

Three classes down, one to go.

OMG!!!

I feel horribe. I had no sleep and I just finished my third test of the day. A&P was not a problem, I'm pretty sure I aced that... as well as my Psych test.

But Chemistry. Oh boy. Those feelings I had about chem in HS are coming back. I totally bombed on that one. I just want to crawl under a rock and mope forever 🙁

Okay, enough with the downers.

I'm going back to my alma matter this weekend  And then sunday my mom's throwing a surprise party for my dad 😀 Hopefully this will all make up for today!

Hey everyone,

I've been coming in in short spurts from time to time. I really wish that I could be more chatty but this semester is really really rough. I think that I'm just going to ditch out on certain club meetings. And if my pre-med advisor has a problem with my ditching SHPA meetings, then I can throw it right back in his face ("Hey, Dr. D., you told me that grades come first")

That should free up some more time for Wushu and volunteering. Speaking of volunteering, I'm about ready to leave the nursing floor that I'm on. It's just boring having to follow around CNA's all day long 🙄 Oh well, 5 more weeks darn it! Then I'm off to doing some ER 😎

Well, this semester has been a downer overall. I screwed up royally on my second Calculus exam (20%), but there's about 4 exams in all, not including the final. Plus, the material's easy enough. The only reason I screwed up was because I didn't study the material anyhow. I have a feeling that doing well on the final should boost up my grade. For Cell Bio, I'm in the pits (C to D range lecture only), but there's still about 6 more comp quizzes to go through, and while lecture counts for more than 50% of the grade in Cell Bio, an A in the labs go a long long way in boosting up a person's overall grade. I think that overall in lab points, I'm getting an A...so that would make my overall grade around C or B at the moment. At the rate I'm going, I'll be happy with a B in both of those classes.

RANT ON MEDICAL SPECIALTIES COMING UP!
Well, in other notes, it's pretty interesting what I'm considering now...I mean, I still do not have a crystal clear idea on what I want to do in medicine, but I do find that kids are great for cheering me up and older adults, well...I don't think that I'd wanna work with the elderly now. I respect those who do, because we'll need you people to take care of the baby boomers!! 😀

I don't think that specializing would be the way to go for a guy like me. I don't want everything to be monotonous. Variety keeps things interesting, I think, and what could be more various than Emergency Medicine? 😀 I also dislike inpatient medicine (ICU, nursing floors, etc.) a lot, but I don't think that EM physicians have to do too much of that, so I'd be cool with it if I didn't have to do it all day long.

So, for now, my top choice in terms of medical specialties would be Pediatric Emergency Medicine until I do a rotation in the ER and see what it's really like 😉 Hopefully it'll solidify that choice even further. I am also planning on volunteering at CHOC sometime in the future when I have lots of time, just to get a feel for what the atmosphere is like when sick children are being cared for. The healthy ones are usually such energetic and happy rascals, and I'd like to keep 'em that way.

Anyway, if anybody asks what kind of doctor I want to be right now, I'll still say, "A good one" and leave it at that.

See y'all later everyone!
