@DbDan: 👍👍

I'm definitely down. 👍

In other news... just when I thought that AZCOM had emerged all but victorious a new and exciting challenger emerges....

what up fellow underdogs? had three interviews within the past week and i'm expecting some news from at least one for sure this week. wish me some of that underdog luck. interviewing/traveling is exhausting.

Haha congrats. Western hates me. It's all good though, in reality I don't think I'm interested anymore anyway.

 I don't think they hate you. They are just really really really slow. They are setting up the 23rd and 30th right now. I've been complete there for almost 3 months now.

I thought I had lost interest in Western too and kinda had my heart set on AZCOM, with the possibility of a 3rd year in LA for rotations, and an outside shot at KCOM depending on how I felt. After the Western invite though I'm pretty excited about them again

I got such a good feeling at AZCOM though, we'll see how I come away from the Western interview feeling. Its only an hr from my house and doesn't cost me anything so interviewing in 10 days doesn't hurt me 👍 Western was a top choice before I started getting interviews so we'll see how it goes haha

Bad day for me! no Western Interview, and DMU put me on hold!!! that KCUMB interview just became that much more important!

Congrats man, you'll love it!

I'd like to join the underdog club.

Here's my stats:
3.6 cGPA
3.55 sGPA
23O MCAT (10PS/6 VR/ 7BS) (August 2010)
21Q MCAT (7PS/6 VR/ 8BS) (June 2010)
21Q MCAT (7/7/7/) (August 2010)

I have 4 letters of Recommendation. 2 are professors and are GREAT letters. 1 letter of personal character. 1 letter from a D.O. I shadowed in the ER. He is a DMU grad and sits on a ton of boards for both family practice and emergency medicine to set rules and laws for those respective associates across Iowa.

I applied to DMU, KCUMB, CCOM, Rocky Vista, Pikeville, KCOM

Secondaries are all in except for KCUMB. I still haven't gotten the fricken secondary because they have yet to download my officlal MCAT score I sent over 3 weeks ago! It's frustrating. Otherwise all of the others are in. I am an Iowa resident if you couldn't tell from my screen name.

Wish me luck! 🙂 :xf:

include some more d.o. schools

Should I even apply?

~3.4 cGPA (strong upward trend)
27Q MCAT
average ECs

Haven't been on here in a while, but it looks like everybody is doing big things! Congratulations on the interviews and acceptances everyone! Other underdogs, hang in there, your time is coming 👍

As a side note: Another interview invitation, WVSOM. Finally something closer to home, which is all that has been holding me back from signing over my bank account to NSU. Excited about this one, some of the nicest people ever just from the few phone calls I've made. Hopefully I'll get a Friday interview and I can go to VT for a few days and make a whole weekend out of it!

why not. But you are a little late. Just apply like crazy ASAP.
you have a good chance of getting interview invite from many schools howvere selection may depend on EC and how you perform in interview. You are a good candidate on stats

Thank you.

Thank you.

get off sdn and apply now!!! seriously, you have a shot but the cycle moving quickly so send in your things asap. Also, search around the forums and get the secondary essays for the schools you apply to and do them now. That way, as soon as you get the secondaries you can send them in.

Good luck!

Good job. Add WVSOM, VCOM-CC

WVSOM's OOS tuition turns alot of people off, its a ton of money.

VCOM, both campuses, are very appalachian region biased, which Iowa is not in.

I'm not sure why you are suggesting that he add those two but I would probably add LECOM (both campuses) before I added regionally biased schools. Even Touro-NV or NY which seem to be forgiving of either low GPA or MCAT if you have other outstanding qualities.

The ADCOM at Western are meeting today to discuss who gets in from last weeks interview.

I'm scared :scared: haha

Accepted to LMU-DCOM!!!! Sweeeeettt!!!!

P.S. I'm most likely withdrawing from my other interviews except KCOM

Can anyone who has been to both give me an honest assessment of KCOM vs. AZCOM? I'm trying to book my stuff for KCOM in 2 weeks but its SO expensive (I haven't had a dime until I got paid and got my refund from class this week). The flights, car, hotels, food are going to total more than 500 bucks when I'd really like to be able to start saving enough for a deposit. I was happy at AZCOM and as much as I was stoked to get KCOMs interview I may be better off canceling it and hoping for the best at Western next week.

Western invite for October 30th!

Haha, interview season continues I guess.

I realize more and more that I really want to leave this state and experience something new. I grew up here and checking out all these awesome places across the country is making me realize how much is out there that I don't know anything about.

Lol, nah, I'm losing interest because sitting at home I realize more and more that I really want to leave CA and experience something new. I grew up here and checking out all these awesome places across the country is making me realize how much is out there that I don't know anything about.

So, that statement still holds true but COMP is too good of a school and too close for me to pass up checking out just because of that. So I'll give it a shot 😉

Congrats. Told you you'd get one soon hahaha

Thanks for the PM about KCOM btw. It addressed alot of what I was looking to hear about.

I took the mcat in July 2008 studied for two months using only examkrackers and got a 20M. I started studying for the retake in 2009 and took it in July 2010 and scored a 21 Q and this time I used Examkrackers, TBR, and Princeton Reveiw.

My cgpa is 3.6 and sgpa is 3.52.

My AACOMAs application is complete, I just need to submit it so should I apply for this cycle?

its too late to apply with that MCAT. i would retake again in march and apply as early as possible next cycle.

I'm consciously putting a tremendous effort to stop myself from calling Western all the time and asking, actually begging, for an interview! since they are getting to those that submitted their secondaries in early august, I shouldn't expect to hear from them for another months or so but still begging might help, NOT!

@ the bolded, where did you hear that?

And don't stress yourself too much about finding out if they are going to give you an interview, because even if they do, its not over. After they give you an interview date, you will be stressing out prepping for the interview. After the interview is over, you'll be stressing out over whether or not they'll be accepting you. And even then, they may not even give you a straight up rejection or acceptance...they might wait list you and you may not find out until next May.

It's better to just stay calm and realize it doesn't matter if you find out their decision a few days later than you could have.

based on the trend of the ones that have received Western interviews on SDN, most of them had their secondaries submitted in early august. and I think if I get the interview I would be happy honestly I know so much about western since I live 5 min away from it and a bunch of my friends go there that I would be ready for the interview if they called me right now and said it tomorrow.

Ya they seem to be insanely behind unless you are an amazing applicant it seems. Mine was complete in mid July and I just got my invite. They definitely don't give much of a warning for the interview. Mine is 10 days from the day they called. A week from tomorrow 😱

Since I have finished the secondaries, this thread has been a big inspiration! I've been made more than aware by advisers and other pre-meds that my stats are less than stellar, so I was happy to find some fellow "underdogs" out there.

Here's the low-down on my application:
cGPA: 3.7
sGPA: 3.2
MCAT: 25N

I have already submitted secondaries to TouroCOM-NY, PCOM, and CCOM. I got all of these in by mid-Sept. but because of my adviser, my evaluation committee letter was not submitted until first week of Oct. I'll let you know if by some fantastic chance I'm given any good news.

THANK YOU, POSTERS, FOR THE POSITIVE STORIES! It's been a joy😉

True. Wow, 10 days is pretty harsh...your ticket prices are going to be pretty high, as I believe they start rising around when it is 10 days from the date of the flight.

I believe PCOM is also insanely behind. If anyone knows anything PCOM and their timeline for reviewing applications, I'd love to hear it.

sitting in the Wingate hotel, apparently there are three other students here (according to the front desk). Florida is so humid!

Hey guys...I applied a little late with my primaries in by mid September and my secondaries in by the end of the month....nervously waiting on interviews.
i got a 23 and 26 on my mcat and i have a 3.78 GPA, lots of solid ECs (that keep me super busy)....i just hate this waiting game.

I applied to
Rocky Vista
LECOM
CCOM
AZCOM (put on hold for interview)
PCOM
Pikeville
OUCOM
NECOM

I am not a resident in any of these states though (my state doesn't have an osteopathic school) I was just wondering if anybody had some advice
Thanks!

You have a great MCAT, great GPA and you said you have EC's so I think you should be fine with getting interviews. Some people didn't turn their secondaries until the end of the year and still got interviews late next spring and got in so I wouldn't worry you have a good chance. Good Luck!

Haha yea, the front desk people were all about making sure everyone interviewing knew each other. When I interviewed I got there kind of early so I was sitting out by the pool all afternoon and the front desk guy kept bringing every new interviewee out there to meet all of us when they checked in lol. The weather is definitely gorgeous down there!

did they bring a new pitcher of maragritas each time too?

That's the first thing I thought when I got out of the terminal in Ft. Lauderdale. It hit me like a brick wall

Good luck!

Me, too. Ahhh I loved it. Just an enveloping feeling of warmth and happiness. I can't get my mind off of that and the greenish-blue 80 degree water 😍
