The "well, things actually are going better than I thought they would" Thread

Hahaha awww I know exactly what you mean. I had a remarkably similar conversation with my mom after I got into Sinai (she lives right by NYC). Basically, it went like this:

"Mom, I got into Sinai!"
"Oh wonderful! I'm so happy for you. That means you're going to drop Vanderbilt, right?"
"Well, I don't know yet, I'm going to have to look at both of them."
"But Sinai is your first choice!"
"Uhmmm...I never said that..."
"Well, you should have! I liked it for you!"
"Yeah but I'm the one who has to choose my school Ma, your first choice is sort of irrelevant"
"But it's near home!"
"Yes, yes it is"
"So, you'd rather be in the SOUTH than here?"
"Mom, the South isn't like, Hell. It's just the South."
"....why must you go so far away from me?"

sigh.
Haha I love your conversations with your mom.

Hold the phone! I looked at your MDApps, and yeah....

haha, I had the same impression after reading his MDapps.

Lol! I understand the jokes from my mdapps, so let me add a little perspective.

Getting to do the overseas work was pure luck. I was fortunate to be a part of an amazing humanitarian mission on the USNS MERCY, and I could not be more thankful for the experience. I was allowed to go ONLY because I bought a plane ticket to meet the ship at its dock in San Diego before I could be told no. 🙂

My MCAT was ten points higher than my diagnostic.

The internship at NASA came only after being turned down twice before.

And finally, I have never had an interviewer outside of the immediate area that has heard of my state university. It doesn't make any of the rankings lists, and nevertheless, has provided my an outstanding education.

So yes, I am very thankful this year. Had I not taken a few risks and fought for the things that I knew would make me a better physician and a better person, I would not be where I am today.

I wish congratulations to everyone who has been fortunate enough to earn the right to live out their dreams, and I wish luck to everyone else who is still waiting on the same opportunity. Happy (early) Thanksgiving!

well, I didn't apply to any schools this cycle, but most good things I have come to me by sheer dumb luck, so I am always pleasantly surprised =)

haha Same here. I had a Physics exam this week, and I guessed on several of them and swore I failed. (This test was on the hardest section, I think, of the semester, and I am awful at Physics) buuut...I got an 85 (which is an A after the curve)! 😀 Woot woot! That was an awesome day. And it means I can still get an A! After that test I thought that I was doomed to a B, or even....*jaws music*... a C. A in Physics here I come! 😀 Yay!

And congrats to all of you who got in! 👍

Yeah! My mailman crumpled one of my acceptance letters 😡

Hehehe, that just cracked me up for some reason.

I got into two schools that, at different points in time, were each my first choice (my first choice is kind of like a moving target, I guess...). With my current acceptances, I had the opportunity to save myself thousands and thousands of dollars in travel expenses.

I have much to be thankful for. I've been given an opportunity that I'll never have again...I guess there's a bit of pressure along with the privilege. I'd better choose wisely.

I got into a great school that accepts maximum only 10% OOS, as an OOSer that is from CA not from some contiguous state! Hooray, and it was one of my top choices... (my top choices are divided by regions)! Yay. And to think, I almost wasn't gonna apply to the school, because I was feeling lazy after doing secondaries!

Sigh...why don't schools send big, happy acceptance packets?! The one-page small letter things are so anticlimactic (and when things are all folded like that, theyre not pretty enough to put on the wall!)

not only are they not pretty. they give you a heart attack coz it makes us think we are rejected :scared:

Great Thread! Going in, I was hoping to get into one of the top UC schools.

Now, I hold an acceptance at UCSD and UPitt. Interviews at UCLA, Stanford, UPenn, Yale..aaaaahhh

Its been a great season.
