Thiazide/Loop diuretic question

Do both thiazide and loop diuretics cause sunsensitivity and should be avoided in pt with sulfa allergy?

Yes, loop diuretics definitely need to be avoided...and thiazide diuretics also contain the sulfa structure.
So the answer is, yes avoid both

Sulfa allergy is almost always to sulfonamide antibiotics, not diuretics. They don't seem to cross react. You need to ask the patient for some more details about the sulfa allergy- if it's just to Bactrim, then the diuretics are probably ok.

Yeah i see your point. But for the purpose of the NAPLEX, i wouldnt think they would dive into detail about asking the patient the complexities of their allergies
