What are you guys planning to do after all your interviews are over and you have at least one acceptance in hand?

I need ideas. For my own sanity's sake, I must quit my job, hopefully in March, and actually live a little before I sacrifice my time and energy to medicine. I'd like to travel, but I have no idea where to go. Getting a fun pseudo job would be great too.

Suggestions? Be specific. Like, country and job specific.

1.) Europe (Neverlands? I always wanted to see Amsterdam...or maybe Iceland 😎 ) w/ friend who just finished 1st year...hopefully I can convince her NOT to spend her last free summer doing research. Otherwise, I'm going to Cali to bug my friends there. They are all crazy-busy doing research though, so I'll have to find my own thing to do there.

2.) Ski instructor at Lake Tahoe? I saw some cool ads on the internet for it. However, according to my family, I don't even really ski "correctly."

3.) Help my cousin, the amateur French chef, out with his budding restaurant business. This could be fun, but I doubt he'd need my help.

I can't see myself doing 1, 2, or 3, so yes, I need suggestions too.

pickle my brain with maker's mark for 6 months? :meanie:

travel sounds like a great idea though. i'd probably like to head back to Banff for a little snowboarding this winter.

A long road trip around the US could be cool too...i find driving really relaxing and it's a great way to see a bunch of places, just stopping in random cities for a day or two at a time.

Well, it depends largely on the school I get into. I'm applying MSTP and some require summer lab rotations. Either way, the plan is to travel for atleast 2 weeks. I want to do Western Europe: Paris, the French Riviera, Madrid, Barcelona, as much of Italy as possible. If I have to make it a short trip, I'll probably just do Rome and Venice. Oh, and I need to go to Disney World at least once next summer. 😀 Even if I don't get in, I'm going to travel next summer as a form of therapy.

Oh, I forgot about Disney World! Yeah, I could spend a month just visiting all the theme parks around the US.

I've always wanted to do a rollercoaster tour. There's a group that travels for a few weeks/months in the summer and visits the best coasters in the country.

Neverland is Michael Jackson's pedophile palace, er... home. The Netherlands is where Amsterdam is located!

If you do Amsterdam the right way, you just might think you're in Neverand, seeing Peter Pan or Captain Hook though! 😀

my travel plans: home to singapore via siberia, china and/or vietnam. climb kilimanjaro on the way back to the US. 🙂 🙂 🙂

oh wow... 😳 . They need a proper humiliated smiley. thanks

I've always wanted to go to Japan...I'd love to do that next summer, but I hate flying. Hopefully I'll get better at it by then. Thailand and Nepal would be really cool, too.

I'm sure that we've all had similar (if not significantly worse) confusions! 🙂

Last summer before starting med school, I quit my job and spent a month travelling around Spain, Italy, and a bit of Morocco. I had never been to Europe before and it was a great trip, but kind of a bad time of year to go--hot, expensive, and packed with other tourists. I would highly recommend travel though as an activity during this time if you can afford it (and it was definitely a stretch for my bf and I, but worth every penny/credit card bill). Next summer is my last "real" summer break (between MS I/II), so I am already planning a month+ trip for then (when I should be studying for my anatomy exam... 🙄 ); we're considering Africa (Tanzania/Kenya area), New Zealand, or Costa Rica, currently leaning towards Costa Rica since it is the cheapest to fly to so we could stay there longer. I would love to go to any of those countries though, hopefully someday I'll win the lottery and be able to take a few years and travel around the world.

I'm planning on a trip to Europe with my wife and daughter.

if i have the money, i will be in europe next summer. one of the things holding me back is not having anyone to go with. my first destination is barcelona, anyone that wants to meet up would be awesome. i think this site would be a great place to meet up with people that want to hang out. we all have to get in first. after that its balls to the wall. booooyah. oh ,yah someone just exploded theirself on campus tonight. 😱

1. call all my friends and actually stop studying to hang out with them.

2. Continue to work, but work without any stress.

3. enjoy the freedom of not having to accomplish anything for the next 3 months!!!! (And then med school starts, and it's back to the normal routine.)

i will get a second job in order to undo the damage that is currently being inflicted on my mastercard.

Yeah, me too. All my friends are in school or have crazy jobs, so any globe-trotting I do in the spring will be done on my own. It really sucks, because I can't imagine really enjoying anything by myself, esp. not in a foreign country. (For those of you saying "Aw, you gotta travel at least ONCE by yourself" I have done it, and trust me, it's just not for me.) I NEED to have a companion around to enjoy things, and I become fairly antisocial when I'm by myself, so it's not like I'm going to hang out with the random Americans I meet abroad. Anyway, winter break is already occupied with family stuff, so I'm not sure when I'm planning my adventure in Europe...and actually I don't even have enough money for my plans 😳

I travelled round the world. 😉

What is this tour called? I can't find it online.

I had a dream I won a free 10-day vacation to Italy 🙂

if i get in early enough: going to live in Spain (barcelona) and get a bartender job or some other form of service job while i take a class or two in spanish. then in the summer i'm going to the world cup in germany and seeing family there as well.

I can't remember the exact name of the tour group... I heard about it a fw years ago, so who knows if they still exist. I did uncover the followign links though:

Coaster Zombies ( http://members.aol.com/coasterzombies/CZPAGE..html ) goes on coaster roadtrips... currently, they're going to Mexico City.

American Coaster Enthusiasts ( aceonline.org ) has regional events called Coaster Cons where members ride coasters at several local themeparks with exclusive riding time.

If you're under 15 ( 😛 ), thrillercoastertours.com has roller coaster tour summer camps.

hey mota-

whereabouts in germany? my bf and i are going to visit his family in ludwigsburg (near stuttgart) this winter and we were thinking about going out for the world cup as well... can you believe budwiser is the official beer of the cup?? sad, in a land of such wonderful beer...

Anyone quitting their current job and getting a new, fun one? I'm having trouble coming up w/ fun jobs that I'm actually qualified for. I guess no one here is really thinking towards the future right now. However, I hate my current job so much, it's actually distracting me from med school interviews...

Interested in climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro? Hiking Machu Picchu or New Zealand? AND do it for a good cause?

http://communityfund.volunteer.org.nz/

I'd love to do this, if only I had the money. It costs $4,850 for the Mt. Kilimanjaro trip, excluding airfare. (You clikc on "General Requirements" to find fee info). I've never been to these places before, so I'm not sure if their fees are reasonable.

Anyway, if you're willing to spend the money, this would be a great way to treat yourself after getting in 🙂

I'm going to Atlantis in the bahamas! Anyone want to come with? 😎

First, go treeplanting someplace. It'll make you tough as nails, but it's one hell of a party - and you'll have adventures under your belt that people don't even dream of. =) Oh, and you'll make a little money too..

Then, go rock either Australia or Southeast Asia. Great time. Lots of cool people, and you'll come back wishing you didn't (ie. Aussie waves vs. Canadian winter).

Other things to do involve signing yourself up for some crazy cross-Europe trips on buses that whip through countries you've always wanted to see. Haven't done this one myself, but people swear it's worth the $5g's or so you spend. =)

Also, if you don't like labour, you can nix the treeplanting and just go diving, surfing, hiking, and driving around to the above places.

If you prefer something more tame, uhh, well, I got nuthin'.

tree-planting is fun? Gotta check that one out. Where do I sign up? I wonder if you can do this at any national park of your choosing?

I know one of my friends traveled through Thailand (and India actually) all by herself. It wasn't by choice though. She got into an argument w/ her co-travelers and ended up alone. She still had fun, but I'd rather do it w/ other people.
