"Third party provider"

anyone other than you paying for your health insurance.

I'm not familiar with that term. An insurance company is commonly called a third-party PAYER, as would be Medicare and Medicaid. The first two parties are you and your doctor. In a normal transaction, the buyer and seller are the only two involved, but insurance is different.

I supposed if your insurance is a true HMO, then it would also be a provider, but then you would be back to two parties.
