HELLO,

I don't remember if I brought up this subject before or not...but here goes:::

I have recently called the local nursing schools around where I live to inquire about how competative/selective the programs are as well as the applicant to space availability things. I was told that their average applicant ratio is about 500+ applicants for about 78 positions, the other nursing school is the same applicants for 20 or so positions, etc. This makes me a little concerned because if theres such a high applicant rate, then what would be my chances of getting in, my status of being out of HS since 2003 being a little rusty on the ACT/SAT's etc. , against todays obsessive compulsive overachievers???????? what advantages if any do I get to have as a person whose been out of school for awhile?!?! HELP!!!! 😱 😱 😱 (*pulling out hair*)

I graduated with a BSN in 98, now going to DO school. don't let the stats fool you. the only competition you have is with yourself. just get the best grades possible, write your personal statement over and over, get people with no medical experience to read it, pad your resume (application) with volunteer time, shadow RN time, work as a nursing aide, get well written reference letters. try to get employers, especially teachers...don't use family/friends. schools want objective letters demonstrating your ability to do the academic work and emotional maturity to attend school.

the last thing the school wants is someone who will pull their GPA down, drop the board rates (real important), and give them a bad name. at my school we didn't even interview, it was all based on GPA, SAT, experience. so pad that paper!! and good luck
