I am debating purchasing a Surface Pro 4 now that the Pro has come out and the price of the Pro 4 is dropping. I am a 3rd year and I thought the PC/Tablet combo might be useful during 4th year and into residency. Also, you can create and take notes on Powerpoints pretty easily since it runs Windows.

Do any 4th years or current residents use one? Do you find it useful or should I just stick to the tried-and-true laptop?

I haven’t been in school for some time, but studying journal articles and taking notes on PDFs are pretty sweet with an ipad 9.5”, Apple Pencil, and Smart Keyboard combo. I feel like the difference between ipad 9.5” vs surface is bigger than surface vs traditional laptop but the experience is very good with the ipad

iPad it terrible get surface pro 4. My girlfriend thinks it's the second coming of Jesus. iPad does not have a good interface for looking up documents and crashes sometimes with note taking programs. If you must, get the iPad Pro.

I use the iPad Pro 10.5, but I think the surface pro is a better investment. When you need to do research and graphing the iPad won't support excell and other essential programs as well as a Surface pro. Don't get me wrong, I got the iPad as a gift from a love one, so I'm going to use it as long as it runs and I already bought a MacBook a few years ago so my systems line up with the iPad. I'm an apple guy, but the surface pro is an awesome computer.

I had a pro 3 for the first 2 years of residency. I loved it. Then I got the surface book. Spend the extra money and get a real computer. Still has all the benefits of the pen. I used all the time. OneNote did everything I ever wanted it to do
