So I have tried to read some other threads to see if my question could be answered already, but I didn't find anything. I applied last year with an 18m ( dumb I know, but was just excited to apply) and am scheduled to retake the MCAT on July 30th. My question is do I go ahead and submit my primary and just put down I am planning to retake, or do I wait and submit at the end of July so that i will be verified around the time my score comes back. My main concern is that I have heard even though you have indicated you are retaking the MCAT, schools don't wait till your scores come in and reject you. any thoughts? oh and I am applying DO only.

apply asap

so don't worry about waiting for the new score? just got ahead and apply now?

What have you been averaging on your practice MCATs? A leap from 18 to a competitive score, while not impossible, is going to be difficult. I think it would help to know where you might score before anyone on SDN can say when and whether you are ready to apply allopathic for this year.

I have only taken a few practice tests due to working and school. I cut work back till after the test July 30. So far I have scored a 21, 23, and 18. So it was coming up then crashed down on the last one. I plan on taking another practice test on Friday. and one each week hereafter till the test. I am only applying osteopathic. Thanks for the reply.

Wait for your score. You really need to focus on the MCAT and get that score up. An 18 is pretty much guaranteed to get you rejected from all DO schools unless the rest of your application is incredibly amazing. So, try and get it to a 24 if at all possible.

So should i apply to one school so that i am at least verified by the time my mcat score comes back?

If you do and are planning on apply to DMU that might not be a bad one to choose for your one school, because if you indicate you are retaking the MCAT they will put your application on hold until they receive your new scores.

However, I think the other posters are saying that it might be better for you to focus on your MCAT until the 30th, THEN start working on your application. Otherwise the time and energy you are applying towards your primary could be detracting points from your future MCAT. It's a tough call, but if you submit early August I don't think you'll be that late. I would be willing to say that's about "average" submission time. Not early, but not late.

Good luck on your retake and your application.

I think you need to think about MCAT, and not much else, until after the MCAT. It seems you are putting the cart before the horse. I think you need a better MCAT score or you won't get in, and if you can't do better than 18 I don't think you are ready to tackle med school, so work on the material and the study habits and the writing techniques now,to help you in school later.
