by the way, what's a supplemental app??? is this a special thing for Canadians applying???

No.

The AADSAS application is known as the "Primary"

Some schools just use look over your primary (AADSAS) application.

Other schools have their own application, in addition to the AADSAS, the "Secondary" or "Supplemental" application. This is for all applications, and not just out of state, or out of country (Canada included)

Some are a follow-up of the AADSAS, asking for more information and sometimes a picture, some require you to write a few essays, and others just asks you to fill out your name and is an excuse for you to send them an extra $65 application fee.

Your GPA will be calculated over all the courses you have taken at any institute , so you will need to send in all your transcripts !! Good luck

^ I'd remove Columbia, but add Penn.

I think you should add NYU as well.

I would add NYU but it's SOO expensive already and then living in NY would be really really hard on the wallet too!

add minnesota and usc, both accept canadians. thats how you should be picking your list.

I've been selecting schools based on a number of things: do they accept can DAT; would I live there; do they commonly accept Canadians; and price! If I had to live in Minnesota I would die! I would flunk out of dent school if I went there. I'm 100% about that... sorry to those that like minnesota😛

I've modified my list, i put it in order from my top choice down to my last it looks like this:

These schools made the list
minnesota
case western
creighton

?????????????😕??????? how's my logic?

cheers :xf:

first of all, have you ever been to minneapolis?? compared to many canadian cities it has a lot to offer....and if your primary goal is to get accepted to dental school you should not base it on what you know of the city. it's not just where you live that influences your time at school. it's also about the school itself, your classmates..etc. i wouldn't close a door based on an assumption like hating to live somewhere, especially if you haven't spent any amount of time there.

your main factor for choosing schools to apply to should be canadian friendliness. you will have to apply broadly, because schools you think you should get interviews at you won't, and vice versa. it's pretty random, and being canadian puts you at a disadvantage. this whole thing about cost... well, i wouldn't say buffalo being 256 grand over 4 years or tufts being 290 grand over 4 years is THAT much of a difference. so when you say buffalo is so cheap.. well, really?? that's cheap? no, cheap is in dental school standards is going to U of A. no US school is cheap as an international student.. and buffalo isn't a 3 year program....neither is detroit. i dunno what you were getting at there.

in summary: apply to schools that have accepted canadians in the past. all of them. some schools say theyve accepted canadians but haven't for a while, so i would skip those if you want to cut down on application fees. yes bigger cities like nyu and boston are really expensive to live, so don't apply.

I've modified my list, i put it in order from my top choice down to my last it looks like this:

These schools made the list
1. LLU (I like California! the area is not too expensive to live, accepts lots of canadians and I hear nothing but good about LLU)
2. SUNY Buffalo (the location isn't my favorite but its so cheap! and I do know some people around there)
3. OHSU (cheap and I rally like portland! I just dont know how canadian friendly they are
4. maryland (soo cheap! I hear it's a really good school! the area is a little iffy though :scared:)
5. Pittsburgh (I don't really know why this school is here, I gues because the price is mediocre and they accept Canadians right ? 😕
6. detroit mercy (same thing as buffalo, I'd reather live in Buffalo though! and its only 3 years)
7. Nova (florida is ~descent~ and it's super cheap and I hear they are accepting to Canadians, also not too expensive to live there I think?)
8. Tufts (I like Boston! but this is so low down because of the price!)
9. boston University (same as above)

I'm still thinking about these
USC (really expensive! from what I've gathered it's seems just as accepting as NYU to Canadians... I'm wondering if it would be cheaper to live there than NY?)
NYU (so so so expensive... I know that they do accept canadians)
Washington (I would love to go here because it's so close to home and its west coast but I don't know how canadian friendly they are and its cheaper too
penn (expensive! and I know they accept canadians but my stats seem lower than their average 😕)
Meharry (Tennessee aint really my cup o' tea but it's really really cheap! and very low stats! and I know some people living around there)

?????????????😕??????? how's my logic?

cheers :xf:

Hey thanks for the advice! Yes I have been to Minneapolis and it definitely is very comparable to some Canadian cities but honestly as a south African that isn't such a great thing. I do understand though, that I must apply broadly because I'm a Canadian applicant.

Also sorry I got mixed up with the 3 year thing, you're right! I'd like to know where you are getting the numbers 256 and 290 from ... Not saying they're wrong just want to know where? Is it tuition? Or other things included?

Also what schools would you get rid of and which would you add??

Cheers:xf:

Those numbers are tuition + all other fees, minus living expenses.

you have a good list of schools and in the end you will apply to where you want to go, but i would just max out where you apply to because like i said, where you expect to get interviews based on your stats and what not, may not happen. LLU is at the top of your list, are you aware that it is a seventh day adventist school? im not sure what that entales, but when i applied there they asked for a reference from my pastor...and make you sign a thing saying you won't drink or do drugs, which i thought was a bit much. so..if that's your thing, then great.

the ADA handbook would probably help you decide on schools, i would buy that. people on this forum have their opinions but if your informed you can make the choices for yourself. good luck.

I got those numbers directly from the school websites. most schools have their tuition and fees readily available. but again, they will all be expensive. some more than others. the private, more expensive schools, are more likely to accept you being international.

and yes, probably not a lot of time to drink etc, but, as a matter of opinion, it's crazy that a school can make you sign something like that!! practically unheard of in canada...but again, it's a private school. the link to the tuition was broken for LLU but if i remember correctly its not "cheap".

the adea book will have all the information you need...

thanks for your input! I appreciate it! the ADA book is on the way, hopefully I get it soon!

LLU has informed me that this letter requirement can be fulfilled by a "spiritual leader" or any older individual/mentor who may have an idea of my morals/ethical standards. I'm aware that you must sign this agreement but I don't see myself having the time for drugs and alcohol while im in dental school. Even if I did, I would be willing to give that up for the high quality education that LLU has to offer.

Also the numbers you have, did you get thm form the book or the school's website or something else... i'd really like to get my hands on some numbers like that!

cheers :xf:
