sorry what school is this?
You're a smart guy. You got 4.33 and 4.00 in 2 years.
I'll let you figure this out. It'll be like practicing for your reading comprehension.
Lol, I've never heard of Midwestern Arizona referred to as amw. They don't take the Canadian DAT, so they're a*sholes.
Midwestern IL does take the cDAT though!

With the Postal Strike and all how are you guys planning on sending out your secondary app fee?
this strike is taking way too long for my liking... either courier or i'll just step over the border and mail it there :/

Courier. Not risking anything.
With AADSAS fees and application fees, the courier fee is a drop in the bucket. I think the opportunity cost with 'fail mail' is far greater.Courier. Not risking anything.

Oh yeah, I just coined a new term for Canada post + strike: fail mail.
Awesome. 👍
No, I don't think you're allowed to leave it blank.
So then I should put in MN I guess
Now that the postal strike is over I am going to write cheques and mail them via regular mail to the schools for secondaries. Did anyone else do this? Is it safe to do it this way or should I opt for courier. Also, how did you guys do this so it was in USD?

anyone??😕
Go to your bank and ask for a money order, or if you want to open your own US chequing account.
Regular mail is fine if you have it registered and insured.

I'm with RBC and the account manager said they dont do money orders, only drafts, so now im confused, would a draft be a good way to go about sending the money? Did anyone else use drafts?
go to post office
buy money order
Isnt money order the same thing as a draft almost? I work at RBC so i get the drafts for free thats why im more inclined to use them.
Call your schools and ask if they accept drafts, otherwise go to another branch and get money orders. I got my money orders from RBC...I get 10 free/year with my account.
has anyone's cDAT scores been sent to the schools yet from the CDA? I sent them during the strike and have no way of finding out if they've been received or sent out yet 🙁
I ordered cDAT scores on June 1st (before the strike) but I don't think schools have received them yet. Does anyone know how long it usually takes for cDAT transcripts to be received?? This is so frustrating.. 😡

Hi fellow cdn's! I've been hearing rumors that cdn students need to have exceptional scores in order to get interviews/admissions in American Dental schools. Any truth to this? Im done my u-grad and finished with a 3.34 overall and about a 3.2 Science GPA with DAT scores around 20. Is that considered "competitive"? 😕

that's what i heard too...
I'm so glad to see Canadian applicants! I'm from U of Toronto, Anyone else?
Right here! I'm also currently attending U of T.

Hey, That's great! Me too!
Are you in pre-dental society? I'm just a member lol
Are you applying this cycle? I'm taking the American DAT, not cDAT. I'm not applying to any canadian schools 🙁 The GPA requirement is impossible for me. I hear for u of t dental, they want a 4.0 or a bit less. So, I'm not even bother applying at all.
You? How is your grade?

Yes, I'm just a member of pre-dental society. I'll be applying soon after I take my DAT which is in a week from now... Yeah Canadian dental school GPA cutoff is way too high...sigh.... anyway, good to see u of t canadian applicant! Good luck with your application.🙂

Anyone wrote Canadian DAT?
it takes so long for the scores to get there -_-;;
is there a way to track them?
That's SO intimidating.
Don't be. Most of the people here are studying for MCAT. I'm the only one studying for DAT. lol
CDA is kind of cheap....I requested transcripts right in the middle of the strike, and then realized the strike might slow my transcripts so I immediately e-mailed CDA to ask if they anticipated delays and if they would courier transcripts for the moment. 3 weeks later, FINALLY I get a response saying that my question does not pertain to CDA and that I should be asking Canada Post. lol. So indirectly, I'm told that yes they sent them via Canada Post despite the strike. Mail fail.
my DAT's already done, but I'm just imagining what it'd be like to be in Gerstein with all the competitive meds and all. If I see other pre-dents with their DATs, I'd go up to them and be friendly. I think we're much nicer than the meds =P haha kiddingDon't be. Most of the people here are studying for MCAT. I'm the only one studying for DAT. lol
ps. I don't go to UoT. Good luck to you Torontonians!
For Canadians wanting to apply to/attend American Dental Schools, are the SATs required in addition to the DATs/cDATs?

😎 I'm in Gerstein as well. But not planning on applying until much later.
Good luck to you! I'm sure we will rock the DAT. I have a friend who's a Physiology Major and she told me DAT was easier than usual multiple choice that we have at UTSG. Prepare hard, and treat it like a U of T exam and you will ace it.
I used to be in engineering and regret it everyday.

Hey guys,
UDM wants us to send high school transcripts. How did you guys get these?
Generally you order them through your high school, just like you do for university.
I got an email saying that I filled in the coursework part wrong. Since I'm at UBC, we have a winter semester (Term 1: Sept-Dec and Term 2: Jan-Apr). But when I split them terms up, one would be considered 2007W and the other 2008W (ie, designating the year that that course started). But if I do it like that, then the order gets all messed up cause in the following year, I'll have another 2008W (sept-dec) and 2009W (jan-apr).
Any help on properly entering this in would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

My dear fellow UofT students, best of luck to all of you in your app cycle. I used to live in Gerstein, i love the moldy smell... it keeps me awake.
Anyway, let me just reassure you guys, DAT is easier than our first year intro science term exams at UTSG. I do not know a single person from UofT science who scored less than 21 on the american DAT.
All the best, congrats on making it this far at UofT (it's not easy!)

Proud of having survived hellish UTSG Life Sci curriculum... Once I complained about insane difficulty but ppl writing MCAT and DAT score comparatively higher than students from other univ. I found chem questions on DAT so much easier than CHM138/139 questions at UTSG-_-;;;
Ha, I was kidding.
They want you to at least look professional and not like a slob. They will find out in the interviews, but some schools just want to do that pre-screening so you don't waste a plane ticket.
Uh.. I don't think they judge you based on how you look.
I do think that they use the pictures for the admission committee members. When they review applications, a director who walked in and gave a short speech may remember the question one of the students asked and will recognize the applicant's face, but probably not the name. Or the faculty/students who interview you, may be asked at a later time to talk about the interview - it would be easier for them to remember how the interview went if they had a 2x2 picture infront of them as opposed to a name which they may have never addressed you as the entire day.
When did you guys send in your cDAT scores to each school? After your GPA was verified? After AADSAS sent your apps out?
You can send them well before your AADSAS is sent out - doesn't matter. The schools will keep them and file them accordingly.

I think there is an unspoken truth at american schools when it comes to Canadian applicants. This is my theory: most american schools will set a quota of about how many Canadians they want in their class, and how many foreigners from other countries. Most of the Canadians who apply to American schools have GPAs that are higher than their American counterparts. Thus I think the average accepted GPAs for American schools are misleading to Canadians. Many of the Canadians who get in to American schools are often the best of those rejected from Canadian schools. If UofT dental is rejecting 3.7's and 3.8's, expect them to pool over into the American school application pool. I think Canadians compete against themselves for the most part. I believe this because it seems like schools accept about the same number of Canadians year after year. It seems too fishy to me.
With a 3.2/3.3, you are fighting an uphill battle in my opinion. But keep trying, and hopefully you can make your application shine in other ways. Applying to as many schools as you can (ie. how much money you can burn) will increase your chances. Make sure you apply early (now!), and prepare your application package well - get thinking about questions, ask friends/teachers/family for advice, ask for constructive criticism. Phone the schools and try and sweet talk the admissions people. Phone to ask if your application is complete, and tell them you are very eager to interview at their school. Then, if you are excited about the prospect of interviewing: tell them you are excited to visit their school, if you've heard great things about their school: tell them that you've heard great things about the city, or the program, etc. Anything to get your name into the admissions people's ears will help, but be genuine and be optimistic.
In my opinion, applications are very subjective, and admissions officers can be influenced. 3.2 and 20's on DAT + a great personality/personal attributues can make you a very good applicant prospect. But know that you have to show them that you have a great personality, and really go out of your way to show it. Having it alone is not enough, becuase they won't know what they aren't aware of. You have to be able to let them know somehow. Don't just sit back and let them reject you because they only know you by the numbers 3.2 and 20s (which in their eyes will be a weaker candidate).
If you want it, make sure they know it. Also be aware that at many schools any e-mails you send will be printed and added to your application file. This can help you if you present yourself well and do what I said above. I imagine that phone calls are probably transcribed or atleast a note is made and added to your application file as well.
I'm a Canadian from McMaster University, entering my 3rd year at UPenn.

I was accepted to penn. My supplemental application was about 3 pages total. I wrote a couple sentences for the first question and then about 3/4 page single spaced for each other question. It took me about 5-6 hours to do it. Its worth it to give penn a shot because it is a great school. Just get it done and you will be glad you did if you get an interview.
By the way, there were about 3-4 Canadians out of the 15 people that interviewed with me.
To add to this... Penn has a lot of Canadians. There are about 10-12 Canadians in my class (our class has about 113 students in total). At the dental school, we even have a Penn Canucks club for Canadians students. We are some cool cats. If any of you end up interviewing at UPenn, send me a PM and perhaps we can meet before/after your interview, or maybe even help with your trip itinerary/accomodation.
Penn is a great school that opens many great opportunities to its students, I highly recommend you apply. There is a lot of support for international students university wide. There is also a strong graduate students association at the school.
I think my supplemental application was barely 2 pages single spaced. It probably took me a few hours. I wouldn't worry too much about it, but atleast proofread it.
