My fear is that the schools will say:
"Med school our your bonus...you pick."
While deferrals are granted, they tend to be rare, and for very good reasons, like for illness or life issues.

What are the consequences of asking too soon? Are they basically what I laid out above, or something else entirely?

Some schools specifically say on their websites that deferrals can't be granted for people getting off the waitlist (ex. NYMC), while other schools don't mention anything.
