my parents are trying to decide whether we should submit their tax returns to the financial aid office. finaid said i would only be considered for title VII low interest loans if i submitted their taxes. i googled this and the information was a bit overwhelming. would you recommend submitting parental information? what factors should i consider before making this decision?

Reporting your parents income will not prevent you from getting financial aid. So, there is no need to worry about that. If they make too much money, then you may not get subsidized student loans if their info is included. But if they don't make a whole lot of money, then it is advantageous to submit their financial status because you can qualify for other sources of financial possibly like the title VII low interest loans. If you think you would qualify for the title VII loans, then why would you not include their info? In that case it will only benefit you.

how do you know if you qualify?

get married. If you aren't married and your parents claimed you last year you HAVE to give them your parent's information. It's the same in dental school as it is in college. FAFSA is FAFSA no matter what school you go to. They calculate your loans by Expected Family Contribution. The only way to know if you qualify is if your parents really don't make enough. If you didn't qualify for the loans as an undergrad you probably won't qualify for them as a dental student.
