Tmdsas 2010

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Thanks so much for your help and the actual email! I do know that Texas is a big state, and am thusly NOT writing to Lubbock or EP.

I am interviewing in SA on a Monday, so am planning on contacting UTMB, UTH, and maybe TCOM and A&M, because those are close enough to be considered "in the area" from upstate New York, in the vicinity of my family in Austin, and have their interviews on non-Mondays. I gave two weeks of dates (will be in TX a second time in October for other reasons), but explained that I would absolutely make additional travel plans if they could not accommodate me during those times. I've only sent the email to UTMB, so if you all still think this is a really bad move given that I only live in New York and not Thailand, let me know! Thanks again!

Where all did you apply? How does your app look? Have you contacted any schools to make sure they have processed you?

I applied to all the TX schools. I'm a TX resident...31MCAT..3.5 GPA I submitted TMDAS in the end of June and all the secondaries mid July. all the apps have been recieved and are under review

I think in this situation it would be fine to ask. It can't hurt. Especially after reading how accommodating they were to Maggie (albeit her situation was much more extreme), I think it will be fine - no harm in trying. Good luck and let us know how it goes! A&M is 1.5 hours from Houston, so if you're contact UTH you should also contact TAMU. TCOM is about 3 hours from Houston, I think.

That 3.5 may be holding them back a little, but with a 31 MCAT this seems odd that you have not heard from anyone. Anyone else think this is strange??

Don't lose hope. I bet you will hear something by the end of the month.

yeah, it is a little odd... i had identical stats, and my submission times only differed from yours by about two weeks, and already had interviews by this time last year (i'm talking about the 'spontaneous' ones, not the schools that i contacted about me being overseas)

i definately/probably wouldn't panic yet, but if you still haven't heard anything by the end of the month, I would approach your pre-med advisor (btw, where'd you go to undergrad? --really what i'm asking is: is your pre-med advisor any good? would he/she be willing to lightly investigate on your behalf?)

there was a person at my UGrad a couple of years ago, that TMDSAS had accidently separated their essays from their application. the applicant had great stats, but wasn't hearing from schools. our pre-med advisor gently asked the schools what was going on, and fortunately the mistake was discovered.

i'm sure it happens VERY VERY VERY RARELY, but it does happen. and for schools that just have a numbers-cutoff for interview invitations, i would have thought you would have heard something by now.

as stated, i personally, would WAIT TIL THE END OF THE MONTH before doing anything.

THEN, if you still haven't heard from anybody see if your premed advisor will act as an advocate for you. YOU DO NOT want to be doing this for yourself... when you call/email the schools and subsequently explain why you're contacting them, there is an almost certain possibility that your call could be mis-interpreted as you thinking that you deserve/expect an interview from said school.

and that's really bad for applications. 😉

good luck!

I just found out that somehow TMDSAS did not send my LORs/MCAT to A&M. Very angering, since this means that for almost a month I should have been complete with A&M, but I wasn't. TMDSAS told me to "keep waiting," but I finally contacted A&M and they're dealing with it.

TMDSAS is extremely unreliable. I was set back another month earlier in the process when they "lost" one of my transcripts. If you are unsure, DOUBLE CHECK!

TMDSAS sent out my application with my SSN messed up. They corrected this with most schools, but not TCOM, so my application there was also delayed by ~1 month. I feel your pain, and am also very annoyed! If anyone is taking forever to get verified at TCOM, call and ask about it!

I've only written to UTMB so far, and the woman said I was not currently invited to be interviewed and they would let me know if and when I was. Oh well! Will update on the others once I write/hear back!

As reference for any late submitters...

8/12 Submitted, 8/14 Payment Received, 9/14 Verified and Transmitted. Every score, transcript and letter was in at time of submission.

So the 4 wk quote that has been given seems to be almost exact. I still find it ridiculous though.

Good luck to everyone.

A&M shows my status as "Your application is: Under Review" This means they got my MCAT score?

Yes, but e-mail or call them just in case to make sure that you're complete.

Hey guys I'm just curious anyone verified after 8/24 get any interview offers yet?

What portion of in state students who interview at UTSW are offered a spot?

Hey, I have a question about interfolio and LORs.

My school does a committee packet. They use a program called Virtual Evals to upload them to every school. On that list is TMDSAS, AMCAS, and the few AMCAS school that don't participate in AMCAS's letter program. A bit later, i received an email that Interfolio had received my LORs. Do I now need to manually go into interfolio and have the letters sent to the schools (and pay that fee?) or has this been automatically done somewhere along the way?

Thank you for your help.

-Jason

I was 8/20 and heard from one so far. They don't seem to be very quick.

I was complete sometime between 8/20 and 8/25 on TMDSAS and I have only heard from 1 school. Still waiting! Gluck!

You should be able to just use interfolio to sent your committee packet to TMDSAS and AMCAS. All the TMDSAS schools only accept letters through TMDSAS. For AMCAS schools that dont participate in the letter program, you would need to send your LORs directly to those schools. Hope this helps and good luck with everything.

I'm afraid I still don't understand. Does this mean that Intefolio does have my letters but the TMDSAS schools do not? And do I have to use interfolio to send the letters to the school? (and thus pay a fee?)

Thank you.

Thank you.

E-mail or call TMDSAS support and tell them that interfolio has your letters. Ask them when they will be uploaded to the TMDSAS system and they should update it within 24 hours.

Thank you for your help. I did this, asking:
Interfolio has my committe packet. Have these been sent to the universities automatically? Or do i need to go into interfolio and do it manualy? Or, are they uploaded into the TMDSAS system somehow and sent that way? Thank you for your help.

and they responded:
We have the letter packet from your school and we make them available to the schools.

so i guess it is all worked out.

Back in August I got an email from UNTHSC about attending an interview: “I left you a voicemail for you regarding this invitation on Saturday, August 8th but have not heard back from you…” So I called them back and set up an interview no problem. I just figured that somehow my phone messed up and I never got the voicemail. Stupid assumption.

Last week, to my horror, I was reviewing my application when I realized I had made a typo on my phone number on my TMDSAS application. I contacted TMDSAS and got it straightened out. I also emailed all the Texas schools (only applied in TX) and let them know my app was updated. Some responded, some didn’t.

I have also had an interview at Tech in Lubbock…they emailed the invite. Those are the only two schools I’ve heard from. I’m an average numbered candidate, 30 MCAT and 3.49 GPA, and my degree is in mechanical engineering. I’ve been working for 3 years an an engr. I kind of thought/hoped I’d have more invites for interviews by this point, I haven’t….Maybe it’s the lower GPA and average MCAT or I’m wondering, did other schools call me to schedule an interview, leave a message, and I never called back because they had a wrong number? Some schools (UTMB) specifically state they'll email you but I don't know about the others.

So my question is, how did the schools contact everyone for interviews? Email or a phone call?

I’ve thought about calling the schools and asking if they have previously tried to contact me about an interview but I want to avoid sounding like I believe deserve an interview….

for the past few years, everyone emails, except tcom who does indeed call. So unless something's suddenly changed, I think you're fine.

If you did want to let the schools know, I would just say something like: just incase you've previously tried to contact me "regarding my application" or "for any concerns with my application", etc., ... IMO, i wouldn't specifically mention the I-word while on the phone with them, just to be safe. ("interview"😛)

Agreed.

Hi all, TX resident here, graduated from UT Austin with a BBA in Accounting. I went complete with TMDSAS about 8 days ago. 35MCAT 3.88 Science GPA 3.75 overall. I got an interview with UTSW the next day after I went complete, but have not heard a peep from any other TX schools. Should I be worried?

:prof: Patience my friend.

(no, give it some time - SW is a numbers school and they liked your high ones. other schools need to actually check out your app 😉 - have you filled out secondaries? if not get on the ball as oct. 1 is just around the corner)

Yeah secondaries are all in...

you're complaining because you've been through SEVEN DAYS of waiting with no news?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

i'm sorry, but are you for real?!?!?!?!?!??!?!

young one, you have months ahead of you. Whoever gave you the impression you'd hear something quickly did you a disservice. Even with great stats, this is a long and frustrating process. I know it's easier said than done, but try to focus on something else (anything else) for the next couple of months, or you will go bonkers. there will be weeks and weeks that will go by with nothing. There will be schools that you hear from that you didn't expect to. And then their will be 'safety' schools that you won't hear from.

unfortunately that's just the way it is. good luck to you.

Do texas schools give out scholarships frequently? I heard of an applicant with a 34 and 3.8 cGPA getting a full ride at Tech in Lubbock. Is this common or rare?

Got my mcat score.

improved to a 29R. with a 3.49 im not sure how things will turn out for me this year. any medical school is my dream school hah.

😀 Hi y'all...

What do you guys think about a 29 on the MCAT for Texas schools?

Post a thread in the "what are my chances?" section for better/more answers.

29 is decent, but there are SO many more factors that must be considered. What's your GPA, ECs, shadowing, ethnicity, etc.??

I had a 29. But as aggie said there's a LOT more on the application than that.

Just FYI I emailed my adviser right after I got my score back and without knowing any of my other stuff she told me to stick w/ it. My BS, PS, and VR scores were all pretty even too though. If you got like a 6 in VR that probably doesn't look as good.

Coincidence?

Dear Elizabeth:

This is to inform you that your application has been sent to the schools you designated in your application.

When the 15th of November falls on a weekend, like it does for us, does anyone know from experience whether they release offers on Friday or Monday?

When do Texas schools stop interviewing? Does it depend on the school?

Texas schools stop interviewing in December, with the exception of UT Houston which interviews through January. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

So far I've only had one Texas interview, a few out of state interviews, and an out of state acceptance (very grateful). I don't know why Texas hasn't shown me more love?😕

At this point, I'm going to send update e-mails to the Texas schools that I haven't heard from. I figure that I have nothing to lose by doing so.

Friday 🙂
+1
yup yup.

in fact, tcom may "accidentally" change your online status thursday evening...
(but they'll phone you on friday, and everyone else will send emails on friday😀)

Which would make C/O 2014's first acceptance day on....Friday the 13th of November. :ninja:

Got an A&M interview invite today. My apps been complete and under review since June 7. There's still hope for Texas🙂

Hi there,

I applied to all the Texas schools, but extremely late (submitted Oct 1, verified and transmitted Oct 30).

I understand I am late and I know that hurts my chances, etc.....

However my question is: Do schools actually look at all the applications they receive? Or is it possible that they just don't get to the applications that were received late?

I applied with a 3.78/33R (11/11/11/R), average ECs and research experience (no publications). I have a lot of non-medical volunteering, but not a lot of patient care (barely any) stuff.

Anyway, this is not really another WAMC thread...just wondering how the admissions process works for late applicants? Also, is there any one out here who has received interviews with an extremely late application and if so, what were your stats.

TIA for all your help.

It is my understanding from the few Texas ADCOMS that I've spoken with that they do review all applications received. The issue with applying this late in Texas is not that they won't see your app, it's that they have fewer spots to offer this late in the season. So for this reason, people who apply late are less likely to be offered an interview or acceptance solely due to the lack of availability.

Having said that, I do know people who have applied in October and received both interviews and acceptances in Texas. So all hope is not lost. 🙂

I have heard the exact same thing about how they do review all aps, unlike schools elsewhere in the states--- 👍

Thanks for your response guys - thats good to hear and i'll continue to be realistic about my chances due to the late application and such...but still, good to hear.
