Did they call you or email? Was it today (Sunday) that you ear from them?
via email, yesterday. TMDSAS was submitted in Mid June.

SA doesn't send out confirmation emails. If Baylor got it, all the other schools got it as well. No need to call them. Seems like everyone's being paranoid about those emails. Schools will rarely just lose your app.

I actually just got back from my interview in San Antonio just a couple of hours ago! I was very impressed with the facilities, the students I was able to meet and interact with, and the faculty as well. There were 16 people there today interviewing for the dental program and all but one were Texas residents. Everyone was super friendly and it was a great experience overall! The only thing that sucks though is that December 1st seems SO far away! Lol

Anyone use the same essay for AADSAS and TMDSAS? or did you have to revamp your essay for TMDSAS because it asks for a bit more. Im not asking about the optional characteristics and diversity essay, Im asking about the main motivation for dentistry essay.
I wrote my TMDSAS essays before my AADSAS essay. My AADSAS essay is a hodge podge of my TMDSAS essays.
Doing some research it looks like alot of Baylors interviewees got accepted. If I got in there I'd drop every other application in a heartbeat.

Where are you doing this research? I'm interested as well
Mostly predents and skimming through the waitlist and accepted and tmdsas threads from last year. I'm more interested in whether at this point they have given us a thumbs up for our academic credentials and want to see what we're like as people, or if they invite anyone remotely qualified, get an interview score, then put everything together and make a decision.

I just took the DAT yesterday and got:
19 AA/19 TS/ 16 PAT
I know the 16 in PAT is HORRIBLE so does that mean I should retake the exam??
The dilemma I face is the whole 90 day policy and application deadlines. Now that I have my score I am planning on submitting my application this week. IF it is reccomended that I re-take the exam, I wont be able to until November 8 so by the time schools receive my updated score it is pretty much too late, no?
Please let me know what you suggest. My Overall GPA is 3.417 and my science GPA is around that as well I believe.

That depends on if you're a resident of Texas and your stats! If you're an OOS and have mediocre stats, I'd say it would be a waste of time/money.

Retake for sure, and i would apply outside of texas. I'd say chances are 50/50, and its not worth having to reapply next year. With your OK gpa your chances at Houston and SA are less than your chances at Baylor. Hope you have a lot of service and a heavy science background. Houston interviews more post-dec 1, and you may get those interviews Nov 8 once you update them with your new scores.
Plan for the worst (retake DAT, more classes next year to raise GPA?, etc...), but hope for the best and dont let it get you down. Let this fuel you for success, not depress you. Lucky PAT is something easy to study for (just do CRACK DAT PAT EVERY DAY), although you should study for everything. Aim for 21AA+, (with 20+ in every section). Read the DAT forum to see what materials/methods are used by those who score high.

Baylor generally interviews around 250 and accepts around 150. Every cycle is a little different however. Good luck!

Are you sure about this? Baylor has around 100 seats. Do they always accept ~50% more students than they can accomodate?
Obviously it depends on the cycle and how many of their acceptances choose Baylor in that particular year. Those numbers can definitely vary. But considering there are 3 dental schools in TX and many students get multiple acceptances, those aren't crazy ratios.
I think last year when I interviewed at UTHSCSA and Baylor they said they were around 235. My class at San Antonio has 96 students in it so if you get an interview your odds are pretty good of getting in just stay positive and hang on till Dec 1st.
Overall GPA: 3.95
Overall Science GPA: 3.91
Over Non-Science GPA: 4.0

Interviews are to be received through Feb so no need to stress till after then. I received my Baylor and UTHSCSA invites in Sept and October and found out Dec 1.

Hmm that's so weird! My app was transmitted 7/20, and my DAT score finally received on the 27th and I received an interview offer from San Antonio today, and nothing from Houston and Baylor yet. Knowing that Houston is sending out offers this early does make me nervous though!
I'm really confused as to how the schools are moving through this applications, haha.
You have awesome stats though, I'd do terrible things for your GPA, I'm sure those interviews will be coming in!

Nope, I haven't heard anything! I heard last weekend Baylor sent out some interview invites on Saturday.
Last I heard from a school was on Wednesday from San Antonio.
(Anyone else going to be interviewing on the 29th? 🙂 )

Don't do it. It's best not to annoy admissions and only slows down the process for everybody. Be patient, it'll come!

Thanks! I interviewed at UTHSCSA last week but still haven't heard from Houston :/ lol I think it might be all Wednesday interviews at Baylor because someone I met in SA has one there the 24th I think. Both of mine are before school unfortunately.. Lol
Hey guys, just wanted some feed back on everyones opinion on how much weight is the personal statement worth in an overall dental school application (in Texas)?? Ive been delaying my application submission bc I cant seem to write one I would be happy with..
I don't think personal statement is given as much weight as DAT or GPA. Honestly, I wouldn't sacrifice having a late application for a better personal statement. I've heard that schools really just skim it and look for anything that might stand out, otherwise, it has little impact on their decision, so as long as it's not complete garbage, you're fine. I might be misinformed though! I've heard a few conflicting things.
