There was a post about the DAT processing fees a couple weeks ago. A few people doing AADSAS never sent the $25 each for each school and just input their dentpin and birthdate. All the schools still received their scores and they still got acceptances. Apparently, you don't have to waste your money on sending scores to each school like most of us did. You just put in that information and AADSAS (or TMDSAS im assuming) will match up your score and send it out to the schools with your app. No ridiculous amount of money to pay for that.

I'm starting to think that this was the right way to do it this whole time and sending scores directly to the school was only if they actually requested it.

So in conclusion, I'm going with not doing the $25 per school DAT fee this year. If TMDSAS says we don't have to do it, and accepted people on here haven't done it, then that's good enough for me. 👍

Cali resident applying to all three Texas schools due to family there now.

I am applying to a total of 27 schools. Cali and Texas are my first 2 choices.


any advise???? is it worth applying to Texas or is it a long shot and I shouldn't be wasting time🙂

What are your stats? It'll only cost ~$150 for the chance to save over $150k in tuition. I'd say under 3.7/22AA and you're wasting your money
 
I was curious to know if Baylor was the only school that had a supplemental application.. I looked on San Antonino and Houston website but did not see a supplemental application.

Yepp it cost around $30. It's all about diversity/overcoming hardship. Nothing from SA or houston

Is the $30 included with you submit the TMDSAS application?

I just filled out the Baylor supplement but saw nothing about a fee?
 
It must be, because when I filled it out I didn't pay anything either.
 
Last yr was the first yr they started the $30 and it wasnt connected with the TMDSAS fee. Maybe they did away with the fee
 
Hey all,

I was just wondering if TMDSAS has received DAT scores of anyone yet?? I submitted my app 6/1 and i realized it takes ~1mo for TMDSAS to process and what not, but I just want to make sure that I didn't put the wrong DENTPIN or something, and have to deal with this later...🙁 I took the DAT in Jan 09, and retaking in early july. both say NOT RECEIVED (second one obviously) but im concerned about the first....thanks

My LoRs are not in yet but my application is already submitted as of May 27 to all schools. I am doing HPE packet, maybe that's why but not sure..

Submitted. Much later than I would have liked but I had to deal with DAT prep, exams, rugby, etc... Hopefully I'm not too far behind the 8 ball.

Hi I have a question about listing shadowing experiences on the TMDSAS. If I have shadowed more than one dentist, do I list each one as a separate activity or should I group all shadowing under one entry and list the dentist in the description? Thanks a lot!

Doesnt matter. You can just total your hours and list the doctors/specialties in your description or put them in different entries if youd like.

I'd just put it under 1 entry if you did the same thing at the different offices.
 
I have no research, i don't even know where to go for lab research i thought this was something i had to do while in dental school, so i have no research and i'm sitting here trying to do the essays on the application, guess i might as well not complete my application for this cycle as there is no way to complete sufficient research for this essay and take my DAT. These college transfer departments have lead me in circles and have been of no help. I feel so defeated with this process. Does anyone have any input or example of what you did for your DDS/PhD dual degree research, if so please PLEASE send me a message. so i can get an idea or a clue or something 😕

I am not quite sure what you are asking. Research as an undergrad is not required for a dental school. Most applicants do not have any research. Unless you are applying to a dental school that is a "research school", it is ok if you do not have any research.

I am also not sure what essay you are talking about with the TMDSAS application. I never wrote an essay about research.

Well it's the Additional DDS/PhD essay requiring "Additional DDS/PhD Research Essay

.Additional DDS/PhD Research Essay Describe your significant research experiences, research interests and career goals as appropriate for an applicant to dual degree program (DDS/PhD). * "

I have no significant research experience, i listed my research interests and career goals... but it seems a bit superfluous as i have done the same in my first essay in which it asks what my motivation is in pursuing a career in dentistry. I really just want to practice dentistry, i can't say what i will want to research 5 or 10 years from now because things are ever evolving and changing, i know there aren't a TON of changes within a 5-10 year span but even still!

You may have selected the wrong thing when choosing your schools. If all you want to do is practice dentistry, then on the first page of the application where it ask what schools you are applying to, do NOT select the DDS/PhD program. Just select the schools. The DDS/PhD is for students who would like to do more on the research side of dentistry and not the practicing side. I think this will help you out. Just go back to the "select schools" tab and do NOT click on the DDS/PhD. Just select the 3 schools.

Sweet jebus... i sure as heck didn't select the DDS/PhD but someone had the autofill turned on on this computer. Thanks though i was about to rip my hair out. You saved me from being a partial baldy!😀
 
Baylor sent me an email today stating they have received my application! 😀
 
You guys should probably read through last years TMDSAS thread to get an idea of a timeline for receiving emails, interviews, etc...


Be very patient with the slowpokes at Houston. Baylor responds relatively quickly within a few weeks and San Antonio after. They send emails in waves so don't freak out if it's been 4 days since you submitted.


My advice is submit and then focus on school/interview prep. Look for meaningful service/ECs that will be great to talk about. Read a few good books, get a job that will help you develop conversational skills, etc...
 
Thanks slm266 🙂 The waiting is hard and slow... I literally can't sit still 😀 Whether it's a rejection or an interview invite, I can't wait to find out. 😀 My stats alone tell me it might be rejection though.

As for the other schools, I did NOT receive any emails from the two other schools. Looks like Baylor is always on top of things. I <3 you Baylor. Please take me 🙂

Wow, I just realized I was totally thinking of my dates for AADSAS. haha oops. I had everything submitted and all supporting documents for TMDSAS turned in on 5/23. Expert have you gotten the same email?
 
I submitted my TMDSAS on 6/2.
And my payment check was received 6/6.
The TMDSAS transmitted my application to all the schools on 6/13.
All my LORs from Interfolio were received on 6/6.
My first transcript was received 5/24.
My last transcript was received 6/17.
My DAT score arrived 6/14.
I completed Baylor's secondary on 6/2.

I received Baylor's email on 6/22:

"Dear [NAME],

The Texas A&M Health Science Center Baylor College of Dentistry has received your TMDSAS application.

Admissions interviews are granted on a competitive basis and will be held beginning in mid-August. If you are selected for an interview, you will be notified by email two to three weeks in advance of the interview date. You will then be required to confirm your interview date. More details will be included in the invitation email if you are invited for an interview.

Thank you for submitting your application to the Texas A&M Health Science Center Baylor College of Dentistry."

Yeah that's really weird...cause I was completely done with everything on May 23 and I haven't heard anything. I might call...but probably not because I don't want to be that annoying person that freaks out because he hasn't heard anything when it's still only June.

Not the same email, but definetely a similar one.
 
Can anyone tell me how many rec letters are required for the tx schools? I applied two cycles ago and it was 2 core science professors, 1 other professor then a dentist letter for Baylor

I'm pretty sure it's still the same now.
 
So I paid the $95 application fee that we had to pay to complete TMDSAS. Were there other fees that we had to send to each individual school?
 
"The TMDSAS has a variable fee based upon the number of schools for which you apply. Baylor College of Dentistry requires a secondary application but charges no additional processing fee."

Nevermind, found the answer.

From the TMDSAS website for Letters of Evaluation:
Applicants are required to submit one of the following plus the option of one extra individual letter.
  • Two individual letters of evaluation
OR

  • One Health Professions Committee Letter/Packet
PLUS

  • TAM HSC Baylor College of Dentistry and UT Dental Branch at Houston applicants must submit an additional evaluation letter from a practicing dentist.
 
Quick question...except for the fact that I have yet to take my MCAT, I have a good solid app. I submitted my TMDSAS, but perchance I feel I have a bad day on test day (Jul6th) and I void my score...how do I get this info out to my TMDSAS app??

*In that case, I would prob sign up for an August date.

hey all,

has anyone else received emails from any of the three schools? I know a few people have received emails from Baylor. My application went out June 8th and I have not yet heard back from any of the schools....

Don't worry, emails go out in waves. As long as everything appears good on TMDSAS you should be fine. I think I called a school (not Baylor) last yr after 2 months and they said "if everything is good on TMDSAS then we have it" (making me feel like i was annoying her).

I called and they said that as long as it says "Transmitted to school" on your TMDSAS, you're good to go. Also, looking at last year's TMDSAS thread, it looks like that confirmation email came at random times. Some people got that email after that had already gotten an interview invite.
 
Last night... I received ANOTHER Baylor email saying that they have received my application. I received the first email on 6/22... and another duplicate email on 6/9. Just letting you all know what's happening! 🙂

ALSO, this may be old news?... but I contacted San Antonio and they said they no longer send emails to applicants regarding the arrival of their applications. Only Baylor and Houston do it now.

I emailed Houston the other day, and they said there was a glitch in the system..... soooo emails aren't sent out yet. BUT they will be sent out when the system gets back on full order 🙂
