Hey guys, hopin to submit sometime in the next few days, about how long does it take to get processed? I feel pretty dumb cause all of my friends were complete in early june lol. Freakin gunners! Thanks

after they get everything in, i'd say a week is about the avg time it takes tmdsas to send your app to the schools

From the MDapps, it looks like your GPA definately took some big hits. But since your MCAT is pretty impressive, if you can 1) show the extenuating circumstances of which you speak and 2) have the schools consider you a Texas resident, you should at least get some interviews (as long as your PS and the rest of your application looks good).

However, if you can't gain Texas resident status, I wouldn't bet on it. Even with such a stellar MCAT score.

Best of luck :luck:

Well thanks for the good luck... I'm sure they won't consider me a technical resident... Oh well, if I don't get in there for medical school then you can bet I'll try again for residency... But here's to hoping!

Thanks!

Ok, so here is how to get your pictures fast and cheap.

First Attempt: I went to Walgreens and they wanted about $40 for 8 pictures. I thought it was overpriced, but I went ahead and had them take the picture. After about 15 minutes the guy gave me the pictures and they were HORRIBLE. The white background had brown spots all over it and it made me look like I had spilled coffee on my shirt...I emphatically told them that I wouldn't send these pictures off even if they were free....got my money back and left. 👎

Second attempt: I went to Walmart and used the Kodak picture machine. I uploaded a picture that my friend took of me against a white background. The machine could edit the colors and printed out 12 great pictures. The best part is that I paid 96 cents!!!!!!!! Walmart is definitely the way to go (at least for this). 🙄

hmmm, were the ones you printed passport photos? If so that sounds like a great idea.

for the lazy people that just want to stay at home:

go to http://photo.walgreens.com/

register (real quick and free)

upload your picture and select wallet size

pay around 5 bucks for 10ish pictures.

you can pick it up or have it mailed to you

Question for anyone who is doing TMDSAS and AMCAS... Do the GPA's come out the same? Do they use different rules when calculating it?

Curious!

TMDSAS doesn't calculate +/-, I believe. Also, BCPM vs. Sci GPA are usually a little different, depending on your coursework.

Engineering courses count in the science GPA on TMDSAS but not the BCPM GPA on AMCAS.

Do you guys know if there's another thread that talks about or compares each of the Texas med schools?

-Seth

P.S. Good luck to everyone this cycle!

check the old republic of texas threads. Otherwise, ask and I'm sure someone will reply.

does anyone know when texas schools first send out invites?

nice, thanks. you wouldnt happen to know if they send out invites before you submit your secondary/fee?

Pretty sure the ones who have secondaries require them before looking at your app.

i just wanted to confirm because i read a few people on sdn got interviews before even submitting secondaries. a friend at baylor med right now said she didnt submit her secondary for UTSW and they had already sent her an interview invite. 😕

Wow, they seem pretty set in their ways on the secondary sites. Also, I've never heard of this happening in TX, but everyone I knew submitted hella early.

I was looking over my submitted TMDSAS app when i noticed that in the coursework section, for a certain course, I have a N under Last Time Taken when it should be a Y, is this a big deal? Do I need to contact them to have it changed? Thanks

It changes to N when you save your application, dont worry.:luck:

Southwestern is sometimes proactive with applications. Vast majority of cases, you'll need to fill out a secondary which is then reviewed. Sometimes, they really like what they see on the primary.

I heard something about SW doing a little formula where they do (GPA x 10) + MCAT score + Z = some magic number and send out interviews like that. I'm not sure if this is true though...

No need for a formula.

MCAT > 32 & GPA > 3.7 & Texas resident = automatic interview.

However, because of this "automatic interview" stuff, its doubly important to remember that interview != acceptance.

Does the automatic interview thing happen if you have those stats even if all your LORs aren't in? My school unfortunately does not send the committee letter packets until mid-August and it's really worrying me.

Well, that sucks for me.

Did you guys receive an email when you were verified?

From TMDSAS? Yes.

From individual schools? Only TCOM and UTSW, I believe.

Hmm, I should change the wording. I wouldn't say that it's automatic (as soon as they receive your app) but an interview will come your way eventually.

Yeah, the other schools don't send you any notifications on receiving your app.

I got a confirmation from UTMB that they had recieved my application about 3 weeks ago. I also just got an invite from them for an interview August 8th !!

Might I ask your GPA/MCAT? I got the same confirmation but have had no such luck afterward.

Just trying to see if there are any trends of some sort.

Just wondering, has anyone else received an interview invite from any of the Texas schools?

I got confirmation from UTSW and Texas Tech shows that they have screened my app but I never got any sort of confirmation from UTMB. Was it in an email?

sure... MCAT: VR 11 Physical 9 BIO 10
Overall GPA: 3.84
Science GPA: 3.81
University of Houston; BS in Biology and minor in Chemistry.

I never got a confirmation email from UTMB, but I got one from UTSW and TCOM. I got an UTMB interview Aug. 15th though!

Hmm, I dunno if this has been addressed already or not but ... are you supposed to submit your secondaries for schools like A&M, SW, Tech right after your TMDSAS was verified or after the schools themselves send you links to secondaries?

Don't wait for anything.
