is there any one who can tell whether a foreign dds can practice specialty like orthodontics without going back to undergrad to take US dds, only by just taking postgrad in orthodontics in CODA university.
That is, taking NDB 1 and 2, and diplomate in Ortho will be the order of exams to eventually practice ortho. Is this correct?

A short answer to your question: - No.

You won't be able to practice as an orthodontist even if you have passed NDBE parts 1 and 2 because you won't be allowed to take the CDABO exam.

You need to have graduated from an ADA-accredited (or Canadian) orthodontic program in north America to be able to take the CDABO phase II and phase III exams. Even if you did go back to an orthodontic residency program in the US (or Canada), you will have problems getting your state dental licensure because of your undergraduate dental degree.

There are some states that do allow a foreign dentist who specialized in the US to practice within that state only - but forget about licensure by credentialing or being able to take board exams.

Hi,
yes , there are states-see the complete list on the ADA web-site, that WILL allow you to apply and take your license of practice , after going thru a 2 year specialty -US program rather than the interbnational undergrad ones. the specialties that will most likeley admit you are; AEGD, prostho, public dentistry, ...maybe oral diagnostic....but NOT ortho. Ortho, endo& surgery are among the most competitive specialties....unless you are a name in otho in your country..... And still you will have to complete a 2 year program......so you are probabily better off just completing the regular programs for internationals...your work experience will help with admission...or try to work for a university in their ortho department....and start from there.....

hope it helps, ...good luck
