Hi! I hope everyone is managing during COVID chaos.

A study abroad/ travel class I was taking for fun this semester canceled the travel portion of the course that was meant to happen in June. The rest of the class is continuing online with replacement assignments. We're getting full refunds for the travel fees & flights.

I am considering withdrawing as I feel pretty overwhelmed with this transition & everything going on, and I really don't want to put in extra time and energy into a class I was taking mainly for the travel experience that will no longer happen.

Would one "W" be an issue/need an explanation? Would it be better to just power through?

Thank you so much!

Taking a W will not hurt you. You have an explanation that will be universally acceptable.

I don't understand your description of this course. Has it already started? If it hasn't, you can drop the course and it won't even be on your transcript to count as a W. So to answer your question, go ahead and drop the class. I presume this is a non-science elective, so a W considering the circumstances as you describe can be reasonably justified.

Basically, it was a regular class where we do book work during the semester and then theres a travel portion that goes abroad for several weeks in the summer. The travel part was canceled, but the class is continuing as a regular class to count for our credits.

Thank you so much to everyone who replied! I realize it may not hurt to take a W, but will consider staying to keep my brain occupied instead of reading the news constantly.
