Didn't see a thread for this year's class. Who else is attending this fall? Also, are there any alumna who could lend advice on courseload, study tips (like where to find anki decks and other resources), and research?

Hi, current MSBS student and soon to be M1 here at Toledo in the fall so I can answer some of your questions. Course load is fine as we're usually only taking 1 class at a time besides the immuno/patho mix for 2 months in the spring. If you keep up with a little studying everyday and don't fall behind, should be great. If you're like me and wait until the last few days before an exam to start cramming, it will probably be a lot more stressful as this doesn't work for everyone! They had like a few pass-me down anki decks from previous years but I found them to be not that great as the formatting seemed very bad. People like me who did use anki usually made their own decks, but this can be very time consuming. People did well using anki and people did well who didn't, so just play around with your studying habits and learn what works for you honestly. I personally found anki to be great but it was a nightmare making cards sometimes and I felt really burnt out at times. Otherwise, everything you need to know is on the powerpoints and it's up to you to decipher what's important and what's not honestly (or memorize everything like me lol).
Research is as demanding as you want it to be honestly. You get your pick of labs in the fall and you get to meet with the PIs beforehand to discuss what they expect of you. If you enjoy research, pick a lab that's productive. If you don't, pick one that does the bare minimum. The amount of hours in our class that we put into research range from 0 to almost a full time job per week, so pick your poison. If you don't enjoy research, I suggest putting those extra hours into studying and extracurriculars like volunteering to become the best applicant you can. Let me know if you have any more questions!

How many student's are accepted each year into the MSBS program and what are the chances of being accepted to MSBS program. What percentage of MSBS students get accepted to the U Toledo med school.

I'm not exactly sure how many students are accepted into the program but the previous few classes including ours usually have ranged in the mid to late twenties but they have apparently had huge classes in the past, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. My honest opinion is that the odds of being accepted to the MSBS program and being accepted into the MD program afterwards is completely different as many students come in with various strengths and weaknesses in their application such as GPA, MCAT, etc. They could welcome you in the MSBS program with open arms but you have to be conscious of your own application as even a great performance in the program may not be able to overcome other red flags such as a horrid MCAT. I'm happy to chat in my dms about your application/program goals if you would like also. Last year it seems that 15/26 students were able to get an acceptance into the MD program afterwards. Our class started with about 28 students with 22 students sticking it out to the end. Of those 22, 12 have received a direct acceptance with another getting off the waitlist for a total of 13/22 so far.

Hey, recently got accepted to the Toledo MSBS program and am excited yet nervous to start! Was thinking of creating a group chat if more people in the program for 2024-2025 respond!

totally agree with this but just one clarification — MSBS class of 2023 had 15/23 accepted, as 3 students in our class did not interview for various reasons 🙂

Thank you! This is really helpful. What can we expect during orientation week (I'm expecting to get info from Toledo like the night before lol)?

Hi everyone, I'm new to this forum. I've been informed that I've been accepted, but I haven't received my Rocket number yet. Does anyone know how long it typically takes to get the email with the Rocket number?"

still didn't receive email, called admissions office, they said mine is still under processing and delayed due to crowd strike issue.

Hey! when it comes to application cycle, do we need to submit now to Toledo or this will be at later point. I want to understand the process, can you clarify about what you did?
