I think conventional goro wisdom is apply by thanksgiving. I sent my transcripts, LOR, scores etc last night. Everything else is already written from the MD application so I'd be complete as soon as my apps verified and secondarys are sent. Would it be a waste of money to add some DO schools at this point in the cycle?

No... It's late but not too late as long as you have average to above average stats...

Nope, not even late if you have below average stats. Get those apps in.

If you have had 2 MD II you will probably be fine for any DO school, just get your secondary apps in as soon as you can

Agreed, apply broadly anyway since you will be listed as reapplicant next year, may as well go all in.

Is that a bad thing? I thought DO schools don't care about reapplicant status.
Reapplicants have lower acceptances rates that first time applicants, but it really depends on the individuals stats, but again, if OP has had multiple MD II’s they should be fine for DO. I personally would wait till next cycle to apply to both MD and DO if I had MD II’s this cycle, and just work on strengthening my app / interview skills in the mean time.

How much of that is due to reapplicants just having worse applications than the regular applicant pool? For a large amount of reapplicants, they likely don't do too much to improve their application which is why I thought reapplicants have lower acceptance rates than first time applicants. Or, is being a reapplicant in and of itself bad for your application?

I think its a combination of the 2, but I would say it’s based more on having a worse app overall. But every now and then (from what I’ve seen on here) applicants with good apps don’t get in cause they didn’t apply smart, like they only applied to top 20, only to like 5 schools, or too many public schools as an OOS applicant, these people (while not too common) I don’t think would have a hard time reapplying as long as they apply smarter the 2nd time.

I think that this week is the tipping point. If my school recieved your app, then it would take about six weeks to turn around to get your secondary out to you and back, and so we're looking at early January by the time you schedule an interview for March/April. By that time we're close to filling our class and get a lot more picky with the people we interview.

You may have better like with the newer schools, but personally, i feel that it's now time to start working on Plan B and taking a year off to improve your app.

With two IIs already though, you might very well get another tomorrow, or in March.

Ah now i'm thrown for a bit of a loop unfortunately.

Every school Interviewed at there was always the student who applied in the new year, interviewed, and was accepted off the waitlist. Just what I have observed - if you are a traditional student, maybe take the gap year. If you are a non-trad and really want/need to matriculate, pull the trigger. If I didn’t matriculate this year as a non-traditional, I would be in a very very deep money hole for next years apps. Not to mention it would be a little embarrassing to ask profs and peeps for LORs again.

Asking for LORs again are the worst....

Usually, if you have Interfolio and your letters are outdated, just reach out to them and ask for an updated date, much easier. Most Professors keep letters they wrote for students, I recently reached out to a couple of my professors who wrote letters for me 3-4 years ago.

Yea I’ve done it twice already. It Just doesn’t feel good. But I’m glad writers keep their letters for awhile.

How funny would it be if they, for some reasons, pulled the wrong letter from the pile, updated the date and uploaded it to your Interfolio 😀 😀

Did you have your writers include your application ID?

I had the letter years ago uploaded to Interfolio, and only send from Interfolio to AACOMAS. No ID included within the letter.
I have all my letters from this year. However, I decided to push back next cycle. Should I tell my writers to resubmit to interfolio with an updated date? If so, do I send another request to them? And I only asked about the ID because I want to say there are some schools (I think Marian) that wants an ID included in the letter.

My amcas ID stayed the same for three cycles. Don’t know about aacomas.

Do schools have access to information about someone being a reapplicant if you did not apply to their school in the previous cycle? If so, where does it come from.

No I do not think so, however primary app usually asks if you are a reapplicant, and you have to answer truthfully.
