I know it's still early in the cycle, but I'm a little worried I should have applied to more schools. I tried to apply broadly, but cut quite a few programs from my list mostly due to secondary costs. I have received interviews from 1 DO and 1 MD program, but I'm considering adding some schools. Here are my stats, where I applied, and schools I may add:
Stats:
cGPA/sGPA: both 3.5; decent trend 3.75 senior year and 3.94 post-bacc
BS in Neuroscience from top 10 public school, GA Resident, not URM or ORM
MCAT: 516 (127/130/128/131)
Clinical hours: 500 (free clinic volunteer, hospital volunteer, medical scribe, PT Technician, clinical research coordinator)
Research: 2200 (oncology lab, medical device engineering, neurology clinical research)- no publications
Non-Clinical Volunteer: 210 (volunteer personal trainer, food bank, phone buddy for Veterans, cancer research fundraising)
Shadowing: 60 virtual hours, 130 ER scribe hours, currently shadow neurologists weekly
Other: personal trainer and bowling alley manager
Employment: Worked part time most of undergrad: personal trainer, bowling alley manager
Current gap year: Working as a clinical research coordinator at a large medical campus. Also doing some non-clinical volunteering. I'm hoping to find some shadowing experiences but COVID is making that challenging. This should add another ~500 clinical, ~1000 research and ~150 non-clinical volunteer hours over the next year.
Applied:
MD:
Uniformed Services
George Washington
Wake Forest
Michigan
Georgetown
Drexel
UAB
USF
Zucker
Virginia Tech
Rush
Albert Einstein
Miami
Loyola
Dartmouth
Brown
Case Western
Creighton
Emory
Temple
Colorado
Tulane
Mercer
MCG
DO:
LECOM-Bradenton
VCOM
Midwestern-Chicago
PCOM- GA
NYITCOM
Considering Adding:
MD:
Albany
Penn State
Oakland Beaumont
Carle Illinois
Chicago Med at Rosalind
Eastern Virginia
Hackensack-Meridian
Northeast Ohio
Vermont
TCU
Wayne State
West Virginia
DO:
ICOM
RVUCOM
Is it too late in the cycle to add any of these schools? Other programs I should look at? Suggestions for improving weaknesses in case I have to apply again next cycle? Thanks for any advice or input!
