too late to apply for 2011?

hi. i am hearing mixed messages about whether or not it is too late to apply for dental schools. my application is ready to be sent out by the end of this week. some poeple say the classes are already 50% decided by now, but others say i still have a good chance. does anyone have an educated oppinion or know from experience about whether or not i still have a good chance of getting into dental school? i have a 3.7gpa, a pat 22, rc 20, and an aa 16 . i have a unique background and was a chemistry and architecture double major. i am retaking the dats and am going to send in my new scores in october to follow up with my application when i get them. what do you guys think about students who apply now, their chances of getting in, or if you think waiting until next application for 2012 is the best idea??

To have any chance of getting in, you'll have to apply next cycle with your new DAT scores. I highly doubt that you'll get in anywhere with a 16, especially this late in the cycle.

here's my educated guess:

For many schools you'll have a hard time getting a pre-dec interview. Some people who applied early have already received POST-dec interviews.

However, you will still meet the deadline to apply for many schools.

Obviously your chances of getting in aren't "zero" and if you've got the money to spend on applying (and you're willing), then take a chance. But you do understand that it is relatively late and if you're submitting now you better have your whole application complete (AADSAS + All your Letters of rec). Plus, submit that DAT retake ASAP b/c 16aa isn't really competitive.

I will say this: Schools have commended me on applying "early", so that might appeal to many schools if you apply early next cycle. Again, applying now is fairly late.

Are you retaking in Oct, or would they actually receive your scores in october? (Doesnt it take ~3 weeks?)

Are you absolutely sure you are ready for the DAT retake? Because the last thing you want is another 16AA, making them lose confidence in your GPA. What is your science GPA?

I think it's too late, and that it'd be a waste of money.
