Right now, Vandy because it's the only place I've been and I liked it. But probably Harvard just because it's Harvard.

Haha, I'd gladly take Yale, too! I think my favorite is whichever school accepts me.

Don't give up on Tulane. They'll still have a class of 2010. Dr. Kahn, dean of admissions, posted on the pre-allo forum.

BOOMER

SOONER

im went away for undergrad, and now im ready to be somewhere closer to home. plus this is where i would eventually like to practice, so it makes sense.

my sister is a senior undergrad at vandy. i gotta say i think nashville is one of the coolest cities in the us (ive got some country bias, so all you newyorkaphiles dont start a flame war);

University of Maryland. Instate tuition (for me), violent city so lots trauma cases, just about the highest ranked shock trauma center in the world, close to grandma, etc. 🙂

University of Washington. Lived in the area my whole life and haven't been anywhere I like better than Seattle, great program, #1 in Primary Care, in-state tuition, etc.

Out of the schools I've been invited to so far, I'd have to go with Mt Sinai ... but as always more will be revealed.

NOT Vandy because I'm going to bomb my interview on Thursday. 😱

(This is what happens when fools like me are still dragging along with secondaries when interviews begin.)

University of Washington...great school and cheap tution for the WWAMI program.

baylor (but it's slipping with the recent methodist/baylor divorce) or stanford.

Easiest interview ever, I promise. All you need to do is be familiar with your AMCAS, that's all they have. Relax.

Yourmom, that is my top choice as well. 😎

Get it?

University of Michigan has always been one of my favorites. I'm in-state, and I think it's a good school.

I wish I was in state for a really good school like UMich, UC's, UNC, UVA.

BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH ok will, thanks. I'm not going to relax, but I'll keep your note in mind.

Wake - loved the place and it's close to family. It's also in a "quieter" town - that's what us old folks like 😉

Mayo- because it's an incredible school and because I love MN
University of Arkansas- because it's close to home and very affordable🙂

Hi all,
What is YOUR top choice of medical school and why? Thought it would be interesting...

I'm not picky. My top choice is any US MD school that will have me 😎

Top choice right now is either harvard, penn, or Umich

Any school in the West Coast because it is West Coast.

My top five
1. Mayo
2. Yale
3. UC Davis
4. Stanford
5. U of Iowa

Not shooting high or anything I know, but I love these programs! Don't worry, I applied to more realistic schools as well. 🙂

These are very different schools. Look at more than reputation because you'll be there for four (or more) years!

I notice that no one lists any Texas schools. Are Texas schools low on the Med School list? I ask because it would be in-state for me, and I probably have a much higher chance of getting into a Tx school, but I'm curious about other schools.

I don't think that very many state schools outside of some of the CA ones, UMich, and UPenn are going to be put down as top choices. However, that doesn't mean that they're not excellent schools- especially UT-Southwestern. It's just that people here are mainly listing their dream schools- often the top schools in the nation- and a lot of those happen to be private and either on the coasts or in the North. It was the same thing with undergrad. A lot of us dreamed of going to Yale, but were ecstatic to receive our full rides to state institutions...

Indiana- three words: in-state tuition. Not to mention that I'd probably not have to move for the first two years of school and I already know all of the profs who teach the preclinical courses.

Personally you couldn't pay me to go to Yale, Harvard or Cornell (especially Cornell).

UCSF (yeah right) UPenn (yeah right) but considering the whole package (nice curriculum, good financial aid, high stats, chances of getting in) BAYLOR COLLEGE!! I still haven't heard from them 🙁 gotta have the interview! gotta have it, gotta have it!

Unfortunately, until the interview, there is little to go on BUT reputation. It is a little frustrating that most medical schools have the snobbish idea that you don't need to find out what a place is truly like until you've been accepted. So you apply to schools based on reputation, and then hope you get enough acceptances to make a decision on where you think you'll fit in best.

And, in any case, it looks like chungmoo IS basing his choices on reality (experience at the interview).

Duke, Stanford, UCLA, Wake Forest

But seriously, I'll take anything

All this talk about in-state tuition...do we really save that much as opposed to paying a little more and going to a "better" school?
I personally would love to stay in-state and be close to home.....friends would be close, I can stop by my crib to eat some of my moms cooking whenever I want instead of taking out more loans because I am eating out daily, and plus I would love to practice in my home state.

It depends on the school for sure, but yeah...you can save a ton of money. Plus there are a lot of state schools that have a pretty damn good reputation, like UNC, UVA, U Florida, many of the UC's, UT-SW, etc. If you want to save money and eventually practice in your home state, I'd say going to your state school would definitely be the best idea. It might even increase your chances for a good in-state residency than going to a private, out-of-state "better" school.

Considering where I think I may get in, and the costs involved:

1.)Suny Stony Brook
2.)Suny Downstate Brooklyn
3.)Suny Buffalo SMBS

I think IU is a pretty good school, with good clinical sites and good professors. I don't think the name on my diploma is honestly going to make that much of difference so long as it came from a school that wasn't located in Mexico or the Caribbean
