Hey guys, so I've been looking at the forums for laptops, but there wasn't one specifically to this: Do dental courses have a lot of diagrams/graphs/concepts in which a touchscreen/stylus is needed/would be more comfortable? Or will typing all the notes suffice?

I think most dental schools have a designated laptop model/tablet they want you to use?

I know my school will be giving us ipads, but the requirement for test taking is probably just a set of common specs.

I know UTHSCSA issues a laptop preloaded with the entire 4 tear curriculum, while other schools just want you to bring in whatever laptop you want so they can configure software for you.

You have any idea what laptop it is? The PC version?

Sorry if my main question was confusing, but I was mainly concerned about note taking during class - whether it would be okay to just type everything or whether there would be a lot of need for a stylus to draw diagrams.

Text. Lots of text.

Not a dental student, but I own a yoga 2 pro (touchscreen laptop) and almost never use the touchscreen. I think typing is faster than handwriting always, so I wouldn't stress about it too much.

Awesome thanks! :) This narrows my options for laptops greatly!

All schools are different regarding computer requirements and how info is relayed to students. Computer requirements need to be verified from each school. Regarding notes- this will vary. Some schools issue texts and notes while others just ppts, pdf, etc. And you fill in all extras. Some schools have classes which share notes. Others - you are on your own. For me, I always took notes on the computer to save paper and to be able to always have my notes with me. I had a plain HP laptop. I bought a tablet adapter to make my notes - not as good as a tablet, but still did the job. I liked labeling and making notes on the ppt diagrams and photos. Since almost all lectures were ppt or pdf, this came in handy for me.

My suggestion for you is find out the requirement of your school and find out from current students how much note taking is needed. This should help you figure out what you will need. Remember, we all are different and not everyone learns the same way. Consider that as well.

Thank you so much! I will definitely ask the schools. The problen right now is I am waitlisted to 5 schools and not sure which I will attend if any. So it is still all very unknown to me as of yet.

Looks like the past few classes were given the choice between a Macbook Pro 15" and a Dell Latitude. Exact models/specs change with the years.

They could have at least gave us a cool PC option...
