Ok guys....this may sound really stupid to many of you, but I just had to see if anyone felt the same way....

So I just declined an acceptance....and it was SOOOOO HARD to do...I mean, I knew it was the right thing to do, seeing as how I have an acceptance from another school I would rather attend...and I wanted the spot available to all you other SDNers out there still waiting...but I never dreamed I'd be in a position to actually decline a school...I always just prayed Id get that ONE acceptance from ANYWHERE...i guess that, and the fact that I was permanently closing the door on some place I'd put a lot of time and money into to gain an acceptance made it tough to push that send button on the email...haha perhaps it's just me...

Good for you for getting multiple acceptances, and good for you for declining the one that you knew wasn't for you. i bet it's not easy - considering the investment of time and money that goes into *every* school you apply to.

i just hope i get to make the same difficult decision! 😳

I commend your action... I am sure you have released one valuable spot for another student instead of holding on to it unnecessarily.. I think everyone with multiple acceptances should follow your steps...I commend you

I don't have multiple acceptances, and if you are 100% sure you wouldn't attend the other school, then good move. However, you have yet to see the financial aid package, and seeing as how there are very few bad medical schools, in your position I would hold on to the second one until I saw the package. just my .02.

Excellent point.

Congrats on your dilemma! I haven't declined an acceptance yet but I'm declining interviews and it's almost impossible. I'm trying to get my wife to do it for me. Or hold my hand and tell me it's okay. Or something. 😉 ... Seriously though, I keep thinking "am I SURE??" and "what if ... ?".

So yeah, I feel your pain.

I'm not planning on turning down acceptances until spring, just in case. Certainly not until she goes with me and checks out schools, surrounding areas, etc.

I know exactly how you feel. It is definitely a weird feeling to realize that you do in fact have options (something I haven't had in over 8 years). I turned down an acceptance a few weaks ago, and today declined an interview. Turning down the interview was actually harder than the acceptance I thought.

Why did you do that? If you don't accept it, just put it on eBay. I'm sure tons of people out there would love to place high bids on this one. Dude!!!

I actually am struggling with the exact same thing at the moment... One has always been my top, number one, DREAM school choice and I never thought I'd get in. But when I went on a few other interviews, I really really loved another school I've also been surprisingly accepted to. There's a $250 non refundable deposit due at my 2nd choice this Friday and I'm stuck.. do I send it in? Just in case I change my mind later? Even if I think I know that my first choice is the best choice for the right reasons for me?

Did they tell you the financial packages you'd be offered at both of those schools?

I know how you feel. It's killing me to decline interviews. But what's the point if I know I'm going elsewhere? I emailed their financial aid office and they said they don't take offers from other schools into consideration, anyway. I'd go just for the trip and to see the schools, but the stress of the actual interview and having to take off work isn't worth it. Except for the one school I got into that I really wanted to go to, I've been getting interviews from my "I'll be really excited to go if this is my only acceptance, but not one of my first choices" schools, and rejections from the schools I really wanted to go to. So yeah, I feel your pain!

Well the first school did, yea. The other school seems to be pretty unknowledgable about anything concerning financial aid.. which stinks b/c the school is about 10,000 more a year than the other. I LOVED the school, however, the lack of care for talking about financial aid or helping us learn more about it was a big, but the only real, turn off.

Schools will actually send you a financial aid offer- probably around February or March of next year- that will show what exactly they are offering in terms of scholarships, grants, loans, etc. That's what people are referring to and that's why lots of people hang on to all of their acceptances until they see what schools are willing to do for them.

oh ok i see. Thanks. So you'd suggest me send in the non-ref $250 to just hold my spot?
